Mum was transferred to Charnwood from hospital as part of end-of-life care package. At time of writing she has been resident for just over 2 weeks. Mum settled in quickly and we all received a warm welcome, with orientation to the unit. We could not wish for better facilities or better care. Without exception, staff have been kind, thoughtful and respectful in their management of mum and their communication with family. This includes HCA, nursing, housekeeping and maintenance staff, together with GP. We have been able to work collaboratively with staff and have been impressed by the level of care all around. It was a difficult time for the family as mum was completely independent a few months ago. Thank you Charnwood.

There seems to be good staffing levels at all times, ensuring that residents have good care and there are always senior staff available to discuss Mum's care if needed.
Communication from Charnwood is also very good, I am kept informed of any changes and of upcoming activities in the home.
The rooms are a little basic, but very clean and well maintained.

The staff in Charnwood , from domestic to nurses do seem to really care about their residents. They are gentle, cajoling and clearly understand each residents needs. My only sugguestion for improvement would be to do up the garden area and then use it during good weather for the residents.

Thank you for sharing your feedback following your visit on 27th January. Were pleased to hear that your brothers room was clean and warm, and that you find the staff friendly and welcoming. Were sorry that his haircut had not been arranged despite your earlier request, and that his oral care needed attention. We have reminded the team to ensure hairdressing requests are recorded and followed up, and to monitor oral care consistently, especially when support is declined. As you mentioned, he can sometimes become distressed or refuse care, and staff will continue to use reassurance, familiar approaches, and revisit tasks at appropriate times. We have reviewed and updated his care plan to strengthen personalised strategies for hair and oral care. We appreciate that you are overall satisfied with the care he receives, and your feedback helps us continue improving.

A resident peed on the fish tank, I watched him do it. A carer came over and placed the resident in a chair after I pointed it out to a couple of carers, the carer then walked away the poor guy had urine all down his joggers. The carer came back with what looked like a dry mop no bucket, smudged the urine over the nice clean carpet and walked away with the mop dripping bodily fluids all over the floor. A cleaner then appeared and said the mop had disinfectant on it, really because all I could smell was wee. She said all you will be able to smell now is disinfectant. My reply, really and what about the poor man still sat in dirty wet clothing. The cleaner made a suggestion that someone take the resident to be changed, which should have been down to the carer to do before running off for the mop. Not one person cleaned the chair with the bodily fluids on though. Does anyone at this home receive training? What very poor performance.

Charnwood Care Home is a residential and nursing care home. Many of our 40+ residents have dementia and other nursing needs. Most unfortunately, the incident in the review has been grossly misrepresented. Soon after the gentleman who suffers from dementia urinated on the floor near our aquarium, a carer came over to the location and attended to the resident immediately, first to calm him down and subsequently, to take him away ever so gently, for a clean-up and change of clothes. This was followed by the cleaner disinfecting the location and further cleaning the place and its surroundings. We could have explained this to Rebecca L but she made no attempt to reach out to the care leaders or management on the day of the incident to share her observation. Management has subsequently met with Rebecca L's aunt and mum (during their subsequent visits) and they are both happy with their mum's care. We therefore refute Rebecca L's account of the incident and her conclusion.
