My mother was a resident at Gateford Hill for 4 years until her recent death in November 2019. We got to know the staff and the care home well from our twice-weekly visits. At all times the home was calm and relaxing which suited my mother extremely well. The staff went about their jobs with efficiency
and confidence. The home always seemed to have sufficient staff on duty which helped to sustain the calm atmosphere. Although obviously busy at times the staff never seemed to be rushed into frantic activity. My mother was treated with dignity, respect and patience despite occasionally being difficult to manage towards the end as confusion and incomprehension sometimes affected her. She was blind during all of her time in the home but this was also managed by the staff effectively. Food provided was satisfactory. Medication was given appropriately and well-monitored. Medical professionals were called in quickly when required. We were happy for my mother to remain in this care home.

Lovely warm and welcoming home. Smelled of toast when I first visited unannounced. Food was of a very high standard and brought to mum hot in an appetising way. All the staff spoke to me and greeted me in reception. Staff are lovely, friendly and will help you in any way they can, always making it feel
like home. Personal items are welcome to give the rooms a homely feel, and I visited whenever I wanted and stayed as long as needed too.

What amazing care my sister had for the last three and a half months of her life. When she moved to Gateford Hill for end of life care. The staff were truly amazing, genuinely caring toward her. She loved each and every one of them.

Mum went into respite care at Gateford Hill initially for three weeks. Mum was happy and settled well and decided to extend her stay. Mum, unfortunately, passed away during that time.
Family experience with the care, support and compassion from all the staff was excellent and nothing was too much
trouble.

Dad was very ill following a stroke when he was admitted to Gateford Hill Care Home in May 2018. Although he is 90 years old next month and has had his speech affected, he has thrived under the watchful care of the staff here, who have nurtured him back to something like the dad/grandad of old. Relatively
self-sufficient, eating and drinking well and with a sense of humour restored.
Great.

It is only recently (6 months) that my husband has been coming for daycare once a week. He has a complicated illness and Alzheimers/Dementia and he is thoroughly enjoying it at the home.
I have left him for 5 days whilst I have respite and the staff have been wonderful. Courteous, professional and
caring. I have also been treated with so much consideration and empathy. The home is warm and inviting and everyone is so kind. My husband has had a wonderful time and I have had peace of mind. I would recommend it to anyone.

My mum has received palliative care from the 23rd July. The staff have treated mum with dignity. They have been wonderful, nothing too much trouble. One of the staff is marvellous, always caring and thoughtful, another member of staff is also very good. The care from the staff has been excellent, they
all have treated mum with respect, dignity and care. I would highly recommend Gateford Hill nursing home to anyone.

My dad went to Gateford Hill for end of life care. In those 15 weeks every member of the team took our dad into their hearts, they cared for him above and beyond their duty. We cannot find enough words to say how utterly grateful we are to every single member of the team. We will never forget the excellent
care, love, laughter they gave him every day and not forgetting the many times they cared for us too. They made a bad time a little easier for us. All of the family thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the care Dad got right till his last minute at Gateford Hill.

Lovely location and a fine building/surrounds. Rooms good size and functional. Cleanliness good - some rooms a little tired which tend to look not as clean.
Staff caring and prepared to listen to any concerns. Not sure if enough of them especially at night/weekends.
Upstairs lounge/dining areas
could do with a revamp.

I just wanted to express my thanks for your help and support with our Father who has been in your care since May this year. The care he gets from all the team is nothing less than absolutely fabulous. The team have been very encouraging to Dad who completely trusts and respects them during what must
be such a frightening stage of life.
Nothing is too much trouble and all residents are spoken to and treated with the utmost of respect and are encouraged to be independent wherever possible, whilst ensuring that their safety and dignity is paramount at all times.
It goes without saying that we wish Dad didn't have to be in any care home and would have been able to retain his independence in his own home but I wouldn't want him anywhere else.
Thank you all so much for all your hard work and complete commitment of our Father, you deserve excellent recognition for your care in what we know is intensively emotional work under extreme pressures.

All of the staff at Gateford Hill made the last few days of my father's life the best they could be - they were caring and respectful, supportive of family members, and extremely competent and caring towards my father. They talked directly to him, were always available, and never made any request seem
like an imposition. The home is an older building, but that meant that it had a much more warm and homelike feeling - much less clinical than a hospital or some other homes we viewed. They were compassionate and professional in every respect. If you are faced with the difficult decision of where a family member should receive end of life care, I would recommend Gateford Hill as making a hard time easier. Nothing will make your loss better, but they do their best to make sure everyone suffers as little as possible.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.141)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.141) out of 10 for Gateford Hill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.885 for Gateford Hill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (87 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.885
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.256 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gateford Hill Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.606
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
