My husband came into Hazelgrove when I could no longer cope with his deteriorating health and difficult behaviour. He has settled very well - much better than I dared to hope. The home is warm and comfortable. The staff are kind and caring and cope with him very well. The food is excellent. Residents
are always given choices. There is a pleasant garden and activities for those who wish to take part. He receives very good physical care from the nurses and local GP.

My ex-neighbour/friend/POA has been very well cared for almost 2 years. She responds well to staff and enjoys her food. Her hair/nails/well-being are monitored and achieved with her permission and with dignity. She recently had a 90th birthday party and the home put a 'turn' on and lovely 'party food'
for her friends.
P.S. No smell of cabbage on entering!
Reply from Samantha Valentino, Admin Manager at Hazelgrove Care HomeThank you for your positive review, this is very much appreciated. Our chefs do work very hard to ensure that all family members have a good choice of food and are cooked and served to high a standard.

We are glad that your friend enjoyed their 90th Birthday, we also enjoyed the day.

Our carers are very dedicated and person-centred care is very important to us here at Hazelgrove.

It is nice to hear that there is no smell of cabbages on entry to the home! Our domestics pride themselves in maintaining a clean, smell free environment.

Thank you

Very caring, only ever seen very caring, nice staff.
'Home' cooked meals, very good. It doesn't have the 'smell' of an 'old folks home'.
You are made to feel comfortable when visiting.
Reply from Catherine Naj-Dyke, Administration Manager at Hazelgrove Care HomeThank you for your kind words regarding our staff. I will pass on your comments regarding the meals onto our chefs/kitchen staff who take great pride in providing nutritious home cooked food to all our residents. We are pleased that you are made to feel welcome when visiting as this is our aim for all visitors to the home.

Mam always seems very happy when we visit. She seems to be as healthy as is possible and looks like she is cared for. Sometimes she does not seem to be wearing her own clothes but she usually looks clean.
Reply from Catherine Naj-Dyke, Administration Manager at Hazelgrove Care HomeThank you for your review, we aim to ensure that all our residents are well cared for and that they are happy and contented with an emphasis on person-centred care. We are sorry that there may have been a mix up regarding clothes and if you would like to contact us we would be happy to discuss this further.

This is a small friendly home so residents and staff get to know each other well - family members also join in together having a laugh with residents and staff. Mam has settled well with home and carers. All her needs are met and more. The home and I work together to make Mam's stay a happy one.
Reply from Catherine Naj-Dyke, Administration Manager at Hazelgrove Care HomeThank you for your lovely review of our home. It's good to know that Mam has settled in well. Staff members regularly tell us that our residents are like an extension of their own family and in turn this builds good relationships between them, making Hazelgrove a 'Happy' home for everyone.

My mother has been at Hazel Grove for approximately 5 years. During that time she has been extremely well cared for, including times when she has been very ill. The staff are friendly and helpful towards the family and my mother is treated with respect and affection. She has responded well to the friendly,
caring environment. She enjoys the food there and being part of a group. The home is clean and tidy and activities are provided. mum also enjoys going out into the garden occasionally with family and the care team. The nursing and care team are highly professional and deliver a high standard of care and support.
Reply from Catherine Naj-Dyke, Administration Manager at Hazelgrove Care HomeThank you for sending us this kind review and we will pass your comments onto the staff. It is good to know that after five years you are happy with all aspects of the service that we provide. At Hazelgrove we like to ensure a homely environment for all our residents whilst taking into account their individual needs. Hopefully, it won't be too long before spring arrives and Mum will be able to enjoy going out in the garden again!

I can only compliment the home on the love and dedication they have to all the residents. My mother has been happy and content there since September 2005 and now she is now 99 years old and continues to be cared for with dignity and respect. Everyone at the home is kind and understanding, The social
side at the home really tries to add to the development of the activities available to the residents. I cannot thank them enough for all they have done for myself and my wonderful mum.

Since my parents moved in this time last year following my father's death and mother's illness and operations, the staff have been faultless. They have shown compassion, dignity and always treated them well. I am kept well informed and know that mum is in good hands. We are so glad that we chose Hazel
Grove.

The only experience I have is that the rooms would be better if they were a bit larger bearing in mind that most of the residents are wheelchair bound and have to be hoisted to bed etc.

My mum resided at Hazelgrove Care Home for 15 months prior to her death in Dec 2014. We found the staff to be patient and caring and most of them had a brilliant rapport with mum and had a laugh and joke with her. She suffered from dementia and so was not always in the best frame of mind - this was
dealt with in an understanding way and she was always treated with dignity. We will always be grateful for the kindness.

Mum was in Hazelgrove Nursing home for end of life care. The staff and management were brilliant and we were very happy with the care provided. Support for us the family was so extremely good. The staff were very patient, caring and would go the extra mile when necessary. The care home also had a nice

My mother was happy at Hazelgrove. The staff were friendly and caring. My mother had dementia and they were so patient and kind, even when occasionally, she was less than co-operative.
She was in the care home less than five years almost and we, her family, were always made to feel welcome and were
kept informed at all times.
In her final week when she was on end-of-life care, their attention to her every need was exemplary. We couldn't have wished for more.

My mum and dad have received wonderful care at the home. All the staff, carers, management, cleaners etc. all work incredibly hard and always go that extra mile. Care is present 24 hours a day with the carers always being prepared to do anything to help the residents. The atmosphere in the home reflects
the wonderful job done by everybody.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.878) out of 10 for Hazelgrove Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.878 for Hazelgrove Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (250 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 262 Ratings = 4.878
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hazelgrove Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
