The staff are friendly and spend a lot of time making sure the residents are cared for but they are overworked and need extra carers.

Thank you for your comments. Staffing levels at the home are achieved with the use of a standards tool approved for reviewing the dependency levels of the individual residents at the home.

This is monitored by the Home Manager at least weekly or when there are admissions to the home or changes with residents care needs, with the assistance of family members attending care reviews.

An urgent admission for palliative care, the staff were attentive from the start. Equally concerned about the welfare of the resident and attending family.
Through mums deterioration, the care remained high quality to the last.

Mum was happy here, even though sadly it was only for 4 weeks. Mum being happy in the circumstances was key.

Following our father's stroke in April 2016 it was a very difficult period in his life. Understanding mood swings, lack of speech and struggle for independence was not only a challenge, particularly for Dad but the family. Our lovely social worker recommended checking out a few nursing homes of which Silverwood was one. From the moment I stepped through the door, I knew this was the right place for our Dad and hopefully would support him to achieve one little personal goal. Probably seems very little to someone that was bedridden was truly heart-breaking. He had his first pint of beer in September 2016. He said, "it tasted like nectar". The home was very skilled in understanding his individual needs with great care and dignity. My only regret is that we didn't find it much sooner in his journey. I would have no hesitation in recommending Silver Wood so your loved ones are safe and cared for which is a blessing.

I found the carers at Silverwood to be attentive, caring, reassuring and welcoming.
Dad only spent 3 weeks with you and so I did not have much opportunity to get to know the staff but I loved that I could visit at any time and stay for as long as I could to spend precious hours with my lovely dad.
I would have appreciated an induction into the home so that I understood what was expected of me and how best to help the staff to care for dad. I also was never sure who anyone was and who to speak to about dad's deteriorating health or any practical concerns, which may have been exacerbated by visiting mainly in the evening due to my work commitments in the day.

The staff were very professional with me but were hard-pressed and struggling with the demands of the resident's needs. I know staff are expensive but residents are paying crippling fees for care and I would expect a slightly higher ratio of staff to resident's particularly for the evening routine.

My mother was extremely happy staying in Silverwood and was extremely well looked after at all times. She felt settled, safe and secure, less concerned about the practicalities of managing her own home (albeit with help) and as a result, was a more relaxed person.

My father came to Silverwood using the fast-track system. The staff were welcoming and caring. My father stated a few concerns about the caring side of the the male staff nurses on night shifts. Majority treated my father with great dignity and as an individual. When my father passed away the room was left, undisturbed, which was a real help coming to 'to terms' with his death. The administrator was very professional.

I feel the need to comment on the admirable dedication and patience of the staff caring for my aunt. She became a resident at Silverwood Care Home last April, following a series of minor strokes which contributed to dementia and an inability to think for herself, and so live independently. Even though my aunt regularly appears unappreciative and can react very unreasonably, the unconditional care and understanding she received is always given kindly with due consideration for her needs and difficulties. Whilst providing essential personal care, the carers encourage and support her independence as much as possible, with respect, maintaining her self-esteem and dignity. The purpose built premises, along with the staff, are conducive to providing a very warm and friendly home.

I was so grateful to Silverwood Care Home for letting me stay for a week after I'd had a nasty fall at home. A staff member came to see me, and I was so relieved that she also arranged for my husband to stay as well, as he really couldn't have coped at home without me.

Everyone at the home was so kind and considerate. My room was lovely and provided all I needed. My only complaint about the food was they they always gave me too much. The very friendly, warm, homely atmosphere really helped me on my road to recovery. Thank you all.

My Father-in-Law had a couple of weeks care at Silverwood Care home two years ago and has always spoke highly of the experience, saying that he wouldn't worry if he ever had need to return there again. Recently, his mobility has deteriorated and he has found himself at Silverwood Care Home again. It is wonderful to say that it still meets his expectations: comfortable surroundings and bedrooms; tasty meals, entertainment and outings. There is nowhere like your own home, but I believe this is as close as you can get.

Staff: Caring and considerate, kind and very helpful.

Room; Clean and tidy. Issues with the laundry turn around time. Communal rooms/lounge in need of renovation, carpets and chairs especially all need cleaning or replacing. Difficult sometimes to speak on the telephone, in need of a receptionist to answer door and phone! (I have waited almost ten minutes for door to be answered!) Overall pleased with the care my mum has received.

Reply from HC-One, Careline Team at Silverwood Care Home

We are happy that you feel the care your Mother receives is good. The home is currently undergoing a refurbishment. The telephone systems are currently being looked into. The issue with the door being answered, if you speak to the Home Manager, this will be rectified immediately, as we have a system in place.

The staff at Silverwood Care Home gave empathy to not only my fathers care but also to the family this in itself made this difficult time easier to contemplate. All of my fathers needs/care were met to a very high standard. The staff were transparent in all aspects of my fathers care leaving none of us wandering what was happening. In view of the whole process for my fathers care I cannot praise the staff enough in carrying out their duties. Many thanks to the Silverwood team.

My father was admitted for respite care after a course of radiotherapy. He was a reluctant resident at first due to his need to feel independent in his own home but soon warmed to the staff who went the extra mile. At all times they made all the family very welcome and we popped in at all times day and night, nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately his condition deteriorated but due to the nursing care also offered on site after a short stay in hospital he came back to Silverwood where he sadly passed away. However, we as a family feel he had the best possible care at all times and we felt able to talk to the staff freely. They were like one big family and the chatter and atmosphere both in the care and nursing sides was like being in your own family home. I would not hesitate to recommend Silverwood, who gave me and my family excellent support through this very upsetting time. Once again thank you from the family.
