Mum is going through significant change just now, including my potential move away. However, I would not even be considering such a move without my trust in the staff and HC One's ethos, which they live really well. Thank you for your kindness.

Since moving into Silverwood, my mum has improved greatly. She still is not completely with us at times but very much better than where she was I put this down to the care staff and the environment she is in. The meals and care staff are excellent.

I was very pleased with my mother's care. I thought the food was great and the staff caring and always there to have a chat with her. Sadly she passed away on 12th July and two of the staff were at her bedside with my sister and I. They were stars.

The staff were great and really looked after mum during her 1 and a half years there. She never did want to go into a care home but once she was there, she never once said I want to go home to my husband. The staff are marvellous and became friends as well as carers. Even when she passed, they were
there making her comfortable. Brilliant. I'm only 50 but would want to go there.

My mother has settled really well into this lovely supportive and caring nursing home. The manager is absolutely superb and she has been responsive to any of our worries and concerns. She seems to be present in the home most of the time, even at weekends! The atmosphere amongst the staff and residents
is relaxed and joyful. Nothing is too much trouble for all of the staff, from the carers to the kitchen manager and the activities co-coordinator. My mother has significant complex needs including Dementia and bowel problems which affect her diet and behaviour around food and drink. The staff have worked closely with the family to support her and ensure that she is prompted with drinks and given appropriate food. There is a real sense of being safe and cared for, as you would in your own home, and this is apparent right from first entering the lounge. The home makes me and my mother smile every day, it is certainly an asset to the Beeston area.

With a new manager in place recently, things are looking up at Silverwood. Already we've noticed some improvements, long may it continue This is basically a good care home with hard-working staff, but not enough of them, especially at weekends. The office staff and the team in charge of outings and
entertainments etc are excellent and always ready to go the extra mile for residents and relatives alike.

Our father, who had last stage dementia and required palliative care, spent his remaining months at Silverwood.
The care and compassion given by the staff was exemplary.
This and the support provided to the family provided tremendous solace to us all.

Mother-in-law very settled, I feel she is cared for well. All staff are helpful, caring and do a good job in all aspects, caring, nursing, dietary, cleaning, maintenance, entertainment, laundry, etc, etc.

I feel the home is very welcoming and all the staff are very friendly. I always feel welcome and my relative is very happy here. Everyone here makes you feel nothing is too much trouble and always does their best.

I am so glad we got Dad into this care home. They are extremely proficient in management if people with Alzheimers/Dementia. My dad had three things that made it imperative he was well looked after - he had dementia, AMD, so was virtually blind, and hearing problems.
We made them aware from the beginning
of his admission how much help he needed, and they didn't let us down - they kept an eye on him and recorded in his care plan any tumbles he had. They also had a pressure mat next to his bed - and a crash mat over that which would sound out if he was out of bed.
The staff were immensely understanding, caring, and knowledgeable, they took the time to reassure Dad if he got anxious or agitated about things.
Kept him warm, dry, clean and cared for, until the very end.

The staff are friendly and spend a lot of time making sure the residents are cared for but they are overworked and need extra carers.

Thank you for your comments. Staffing levels at the home are achieved with the use of a standards tool approved for reviewing the dependency levels of the individual residents at the home.
This is monitored by the Home Manager at least weekly or when there are admissions to the home or changes with residents care needs, with the assistance of family members attending care reviews.

An urgent admission for palliative care, the staff were attentive from the start. Equally concerned about the welfare of the resident and attending family.
Through mums deterioration, the care remained high quality to the last.
Mum was happy here, even though sadly it was only for 4 weeks. Mum being
happy in the circumstances was key.

Following our father's stroke in April 2016 it was a very difficult period in his life. Understanding mood swings, lack of speech and struggle for independence was not only a challenge, particularly for Dad but the family. Our lovely social worker recommended checking out a few nursing homes of which
Silverwood was one. From the moment I stepped through the door, I knew this was the right place for our Dad and hopefully would support him to achieve one little personal goal. Probably seems very little to someone that was bedridden was truly heart-breaking. He had his first pint of beer in September 2016. He said, "it tasted like nectar". The home was very skilled in understanding his individual needs with great care and dignity. My only regret is that we didn't find it much sooner in his journey. I would have no hesitation in recommending Silver Wood so your loved ones are safe and cared for which is a blessing.

I found the carers at Silverwood to be attentive, caring, reassuring and welcoming.
Dad only spent 3 weeks with you and so I did not have much opportunity to get to know the staff but I loved that I could visit at any time and stay for as long as I could to spend precious hours with my lovely dad.
I
would have appreciated an induction into the home so that I understood what was expected of me and how best to help the staff to care for dad. I also was never sure who anyone was and who to speak to about dad's deteriorating health or any practical concerns, which may have been exacerbated by visiting mainly in the evening due to my work commitments in the day.
The staff were very professional with me but were hard-pressed and struggling with the demands of the resident's needs. I know staff are expensive but residents are paying crippling fees for care and I would expect a slightly higher ratio of staff to resident's particularly for the evening routine.

We are committed to providing Residents with the high quality, kind care they deserve, and therefore tailor our staffing levels to ensure we can meet everyone’s individual needs.
All new Residents have an assessment where the Home Manager will talk family members through how they can support their relative; this is an important part of the admission to the home and ensures that the family is supported as well as the resident.
If family members struggle to come to the home in the day time due to other commitments the Home Manager is happy to schedule an out of hours meeting to ensure that their questions are answered appropriately.

My mother was extremely happy staying in Silverwood and was extremely well looked after at all times. She felt settled, safe and secure, less concerned about the practicalities of managing her own home (albeit with help) and as a result, was a more relaxed person.

My father came to Silverwood using the fast-track system. The staff were welcoming and caring. My father stated a few concerns about the caring side of the the male staff nurses on night shifts. Majority treated my father with great dignity and as an individual. When my father passed away the room was
left, undisturbed, which was a real help coming to 'to terms' with his death. The administrator was very professional.

Job Title: Home Manager

After working as a Manager within residential and dementia care homes for the past 20 years, Debra has achieved many awards to highlight her commitment to kind care, such as Manager of the Year and Best Activities Provider.


As a dedicated healthcare professional, Debra has gained a wealth of experience in providing care to elderly people to help enrich their lives.


Debra closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that means they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoyed most about her role, Debra remarked: “I love being able to make a difference, as helping people fulfil their dreams as they get older is extremely important to me.”


Debra credits her biggest achievement to becoming a mother and grandmother.


Outside of work, Debra enjoys spending time with her seven grandchildren, teaching them how to bake and taking them to the park with her dog, DC.
