My mum was here for about two months. The admittance procedure was made a lot easier by the assistance of the staff. It was without a doubt the best place for her last weeks. Each time I came, my mum told me how much she loved the staff.

Mum was only a resident on the Dunster Unit for a few weeks before she passed away. But she was treated with dignity and respect at all times. The room she occupied was kept spotless, personal care was excellent and all the staff were efficient, kind and caring. I couldn't have asked for more for her
final days. Thank you.

If you are looking for a care home for your relative and you don't like or care about them then this one is ideal!
My mum has been a resident for several months now and unfortunately is too frail and weak due to terminal cancer to move her.
The food is diabolical unless you like burger and chips,
pizza and chips, anything with chips for lunch, soup, and sandwich for tea and as a special treat for someone who is type 1 diabetic you get angel cake, sugar in your tea/coffee, puddings, etc. God help them if there is a party going on and they need the loo. My mum was told to wait and hold it today because the staff was busy taking residents to a 90th birthday party (she has kidney cancer!) Mum also has a resident dead spider on her ceiling and a cobweb on the window (filthy) and a layer of dust under her bed and don't get me started on meds that they forget to order. I have pictures of everything. The manager isn't there now, staff/nurses/cleaners need sacking. This has gone further!

My uncle is in an assessment bed so his stay is not yet permanent. So whilst he does not have a lot of personal belongings with him, the room is pleasant, clean and well furnished with appropriate equipment. Safety is paramount though my uncle will not eat easily, the staff try very hard to get him
to eat. They are pleasant and respectful. They respond to medical needs promptly and keep the family informed. He is clean and safe which is very important.
Reply from Julia Bentley, COO at Burrswood Care HomeThank you for taking the time to complete the review, I will pass on your kind comments to our colleagues. Mum sadly passed away in Burrswood recently. The level of care she received was absolutely first class in every respect.
Our gratitude goes to the manager and all the very caring staff at Burrswood for all their help and support during a very difficult time.

My mum has been in Burrswood for just over one and a half years and she was very poorly when she was admitted, in fact, the hospital had given her about twelve weeks to live. Myself and my sisters were absolutely devastated, but happily, she has picked up in herself. She still has times that she does
not eat and won't get out of bed but the marvellous staff do their very best at taking her round to get out of bed and try and eat. The staff are very good with our mom and the manager who is fairly new is brilliant.

My mum has now been a resident on the Crompton unit at Burrswood for two years. During that time, I have always been satisfied that she has been given the highest level of care from the staff on that wing. Things are even better under the new manager. Covid has made life very difficult for everyone
there, but I feel the new manager and the unit manager have done their very best for my mum and all the residents in that section. Communication has improved vastly under the new management. Mum is not always easy to cope with, and I will always be very grateful for the excellent level of care she receives.

My aunt spent 5 weeks on the Dunster unit receiving palliative care. The staff are exceptionally caring wonderful people. Throughout the home everyone and everything could not be any better, I was kept informed on a daily basis of my aunt's condition, the staff were honest and very professional and
sensitive.
My sincere thanks to all staff.

I must say how positive I am following the new manager starting in post. I am aware he is continuing to identify opportunities to improve the quality of care provided within Burrswood and develop better communication opportunities for relatives and carers.
One of the first things he did was support
my relative moving rooms so he was in an environment to better meet his care needs in accommodating both his wheelchair and a wider bed.
I cannot thank the clinical manager and the Dunster team enough for the exceptional care provided to my father when his condition unexpectedly deteriorated over Christmas, and for their support and open communication with the family during this difficult time.
It has been hard having a relative in a care home over the last year, and I am sure there are significant pressures for the team on a daily basis, but I am confident that the team are doing their best, they aim to provide good care, and any issues I may raise will be addressed.

Burrswood is a safe, secure home for my father. Its corridors are filled with laughter the staff can't do enough to help. I have been kept informed of my father's welfare despite being unable to visit. I feel confident that he is happy and supported. Everyone employed there has gone that extra mile

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.726)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.726) out of 10 for Burrswood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.726 for Burrswood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (239 Excellents x 5) + (72 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 318 Ratings = 4.726
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burrswood Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 125 registered maximum number of service users is 25, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
