My mother moved into Arbour Court in February 2020 after her carer, my father, became seriously ill. I was worried about the prospect of my mother going into care but I needn't have been. From day one when I was given a guided tour of Arbour Court I was immediately struck by the professionalism and the friendliness of the staff. The feeling I got on entering was very much of a home where everyone is loved and treated with the utmost care, respect and dignity. My father eventually passed away at the end of February and my mother was admitted to Arbour Court permanently. It's clear from the conversations I have with my mother that she's incredibly happy there. She has company, support and activities to keep her mind active and good food. Her room is lovely, backing out onto a beautiful garden area. I really couldn't be happier with the whole setup at Arbour Court.

I just wanted to take the time to write a review about all the fantastic staff at Arbour Court.

My aunt has recently passed away with vascular dementia and she spent the last two years at Arbour Court after us really struggling, as a family, to find a suitable home as she was really poorly and displaying very challenging behaviour. From the moment my aunt arrived she was given fabulous care. Staff were patient and caring and it was clear my aunt felt settled. Staff have been amazing at supporting both my aunt and us as a family in the final stages of her illness.

I ran a voluntary exercise class at Arbour and was very very impressed with the warmth of the welcome, the caring nature of the activities team and they're willing to engage with my activities. Residents were clearly very settled and safe and, without exception, were called by name and treated with dignity. I was also very impressed that the home management team who took an interest in my work and were receptive to feedback. I cannot comment on all areas of the home, or on costs but its clearly a great environment. Thanks to all the team.

My mother stayed from 29th December 2017 until 29th December 2018. The staff were fantastic, warm, friendly, kind and made us part of a family. I can't thank them enough for the way they looked after my mam until she passed away. They always had a smile on their faces - a brilliant home for my mum.

The duty manager has treated our dad with dignity, respect and with the care my dad deserves.

He is always available to answer questions in layman's terms and in a way that explains how something may affect his quality of life. He is extremely knowledgeable and understanding in an area which is very complex and has, at times, received some bad press which certainly doesn't apply in this case. We couldn't recommend the home highly enough and are very grateful for the care received.

Mum has settled extremely well at Arbour Court following a very challenging time in her previous care home, due to her worsening dementia. The staff are lovely, very caring and thoughtful. She enjoys the activities and entertainment organised for the residents. It is a great relief for me that she is in such a lovely (and safe) environment.

Overall Experience

During the last two years, Arbour Court have provided exemplary care to my mother who suffered from the latter stages of dementia. My mother was also at a very high risk of falling and had many other health complications. The care home manager was incredibly kind and sympathetic and was evidently liked by the residents as he had such a caring nature and showed great compassion, whilst being efficient and knowledgeable. The nurses and carers also provided superb care to my mother who was very challenging. Like many dementia residents, her condition meant that it was not always possible for her to look clean and well groomed, as she would often become aggressive or aggravated if they tried to intervene. Thus it proved best that only her essential care needs were met, to a very high standard, in order to keep her comfortable and safe. I have nothing but praise for the care she received and the attentive and thoughtful approach of all those at the care home. Thank you very much.

My husband's mobility has improved a great deal since moving to Arbour Court.
The staff are very friendly and they treat each resident with the utmost care and attention, seeing to their individual needs with patience.
My husband is enjoying his meals - particularly the homemade muffin with his afternoon cup of tea which is a real treat.

Arbour Court do not tell me anything about what is going on regarding my loved one's health and welfare. My experience is that medication can be forgotten to be, or just not, re-ordered when it runs out which resulted in a really bad reaction in my loved one. My loved one has assessments or might need extra care, perhaps because of bed sores, or have other things, like injections, opticians visits or something similar and I am not informed. A carer told me that they are not allowed to change pads at less than six hourly intervals when I asked somebody if they could put a fresh pad on. When I have asked for help for my loved one on more than one occasion, I was told there is no one available. I will say, though, that there are carers who are really lovely, dedicated and excellent in doing a really difficult job. By the same token, there are one or two less than helpful. The building was purpose built and, I think it is very suitable. The food, again, is excellent.

The atmosphere at Arbour Court is welcoming. The staff are always friendly and they have a good rapport with the residents and relatives.

My Stepfather, who had dementia, was admitted from hospital. Sadly he deteriorated quickly due to his illness. Although he was only at Arbour Court for six days his 'End of Life' care was outstanding with care for my Stepfather and consideration for the family. At every stage, we were kept informed.

My friend was admitted from hospital on 9 February. She has vascular dementia and is very frail. I have found the staff to be caring, helpful and knowledgeable. As a result, her physical health has improved although she is largely bedbound. Communication is good and visiting arrangements very flexible.
