I have always found that Shawcross has friendly staff and has always looked after my mother very well. She has been here for six years, and the quality of care has been outstanding throughout. It is clean, and there's a personal touch.

My husband and I came to your open day on 2nd September 22 and had a lovely time. The staff were helpful and very pleasant. The entertainers were very good, and all the residents seemed to be really enjoying themselves. They were clean and tidy and looked after very well.
Our friend stayed in his
room, and we saw him afterwards (his choice), but he was comfortable, clean and watching tele.

One member of staff was lovely and welcoming when we arrived. She knew Aunty personally and was able to tell us how she was.
The alarm went off as I stood on the mat, and the whole team came running in seconds. Aunty is desperate for a shower; the shower in her room doesn't work and looks like it
hasn't for a long time.
She said she has had a thorough head-to-toe wash a few times but really wants a shower.

Facilities and staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. Room for Dad is bright and airy. It was a difficult choice trying to find the right facility, but we can see that we have made the right choice for Dad.

Our mum came to Shawcross in March 22 following a deterioration with her diagnosis of dementia. As a family, this was the hardest decision we had to make as we, so wanted to keep her at home.
Mum was cared for on the residential side of the home. The home is not too big, and she had a lovely room.
From day one, the staff were lovely and caring, the agitation that Mum suffered with at home diminished and on the whole, she was very settled. There were some slight issues with the loss of slippers etc, however, this was easily resolved, and in the grand scheme of things, was nothing to be upset about.
The communication was excellent from the staff when I needed to be informed of things.
Sadly Mum passed away recently; her care throughout her stay at Shawcross was excellent, and the palliative care she received in the last week before she passed away was simply wonderful!
Thank you to the wonderful carers who probably do not get the recognition they deserve.

Shawcross really is a "home from home". Every time I come here, I feel a warmth and just know that my partner's mum is being very well looked after. There is "no care home smell" - a sign of how important residents are here. Staff here don't just care; they nurture the residents and their visitors.
Staff, especially one member of staff, are a real asset to your organisation. I know names shouldn't be mentioned, but I feel obliged as this particular lady is so brilliant at what she does.

Very secure and welcomed by staff on reception and very polite and showed me where to go to visit my dad. Staff came into his room and updated me on how Dad was setting in. Impressed with how clean his room is.

I have a number of concerns - an event two weeks ago, over in the MRI unit, mum invited, never taken over. Concerns with regards items going missing from Mum's room, if borrowed need returning. No longer doing activities, which Mum enjoyed; this has reduced interaction and made my mum more isolated
and very low. Concerned with lateness of lunchtime meals and time my mum is cleaned and moved from bed. One occasion she was dressed but never left her bed all day, not acceptable. On the whole, staff do an excellent job, but are under-resourced a need for more trained staff. Lift has been broken over two months, not acceptable.

I cannot praise Shawcross Care Home enough. The difference in my mum is phenomenal in just a short time since moving to Shawcross. The staff are always warm, friendly and inviting and cannot do enough for my mum and her visitors.

Since Covid and the reopening of visiting, everything is more relaxed. Staffing appears to be improving, and activities are happening on a regular basis. I would like to see more stimulation, be activities or more outdoors. As the link with Church across the road ceased, it would be good to get back
to thins. My mum is institutionalized, however, happy where she is, even though she doesn't suffer from dementia.

Every time visit, always clean surroundings, nurses pleasant and helpful. Food very good, rooms kept clean and tidy. Care staff always very helpful and keen to make sure everything needed is done to the best they can. Outdoor visits very good for the residents, change of scenery and fresh air.

My step mum came to live at Shawcroos after a few weeks of respite care. We found the home to be very welcoming, and my step mum immediately became less agitated and seemed happy to be at Shawcross. It was a very hard decision to make putting our mum into here, but we have only seen kindness to our
mum. Lots of affection, and everyone listens when we have concerns.

Both my parents have been residents at Shawcross - my dad died three years ago. My mum is still a resident after three years. I can't praise the staff - all positions - enough. The care and respect shown to my parents have always been top class, and their dignity has always been considered when being
attended to. The staff are always friendly and helpful and ready to listen. It is a very well run and happy home.

Anoj Kochera

Job Title: Home Manager at Shawcross Care Home, Wigan

Anoj has worked in the Health and Social Care Sector for over 20 years. He loves being able to make positive changes in his residents’ lives. He has a Level 4 NVQ in General Nursing and Psychiatry, a Registered Manager’s Award and a qualification in Mentorship Training. He spent 10 years working in a Psychiatric Hospital before changing his career path to caring for the elderly. As Home Manager, Anoj loves utilising his leadership skills by being a supportive role model for his team, to build their confidence, self-worth and drive. When he isn’t working, Anoj likes playing football and going on hikes. He is also very family-minded and loves to spend time with them whenever he can.
