Mum has really thrived since coming to Shawcross. She's made friends and tells us she is never lonely. The staff are exceptional. They always have time for the residents and will pick up on when Mum might be feeling a little low, giving her a little pep-talk and comforting her when she needs it. We
are confident that she is well cared for, safe and happy... what more could we ask for?

I am very satisfied with the care and support Mum has received since being admitted in late 2020, especially considering the ongoing Covid situation and being unable to visit at times during winter when the home had to close its doors to visitors. The staff have coped well in difficult circumstances.

My mym came into the home in September 20201. Here, she was nursed back to health. She had lots of happy times here, every day was good. The team of people who cared for her are amazing and vibrant. She was treated with kindness and respect. I cannot say thank you enough, also to the chef who kept her

Excellent care is given by care staff. Cannot fault the care. The only issue was a lack of preparation from a staff member for a CHC meeting, also in the past lack of communication, but this has improved. The care staff are amazing and clearly care and go above and beyond. I feel confident my aunt is
well cared for and treated with dignity!

Shawcross have a caring staff working under difficult Covid conditions who are always respectful and kind with my elderly mum, who has vascular dementia. The staff display patience and readily listen to any concerns or problems that occur. They try hard to resolve them. Mum praises the staff and enjoys
the meals and the weekly visit to the cafe at the Methodist Church. On the whole, she has settled in well, especially now that the residents are able to mix more and join in activities. I would like to thank them all and appreciate their hard work and concerted efforts.

I contacted the care home regarding respite for my husband whilst we were having a garage conversion to accommodate his needs and the Manager was amazing with the arrangements enabling me to transfer him to Shawcross without delay. The manager and staff were welcoming and informative at all times.
They
made my husband very comfortable and in his own words, he was looked after very well indeed taking into consideration his needs at all times.

Because of Covid, we cant get involved enough to see the activities. I only know Mum isn't through the day as bad as the women around her. She still wants to converse, she was someone who went to Church meetings, women's guild, so I hope she is taken down to mix with people who don't have Alzheimer's
in the day, but she is in the right place from tea time.

My mother was at Shawcross for 2 weeks following a hospital discharge. She was (inappropriately - due to a Social Care error) admitted to the Nursing side of the Unit. Staff were kind and friendly, though there seemed to be little time for staff to do more than attend to the physical care needs of the
residents. From my observations at daily window visits and conversations with staff, it was clear that the unit was not well placed - despite the willingness of staff - to meet residents social and emotional needs. This meant that my mother spent the majority of her time alone in her room, with staff only being able to spend time with her for 5-10 minutes every couple of hours. This, and the general practice on the Nursing side of the Unit, to give residents a bib and baby beakers at mealtimes (rather than a more individualised approach which would have required staff to be more available), impacted negatively on her mood, sense of dignity and independence skills.

We pride ourselves on providing exceptional service, so we are disappointed to hear that you feel this is not the case in some areas. As your mother was originally placed in the Nursing Unit by Social Care Services, this would have affected the care she received. However, our team assess residents’ care needs every day and try to promote independence at all times. If their needs do change, then the care we provide will be adjusted.
At the time of your mother’s admission, any new residents had to isolate in their rooms to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 and ensure the safety of our team and other residents.

I cannot think of any time when visiting the home that I haven’t been met by friendly faces. All the staff are so caring and patient with the residents, and at times it must be really hard. During these difficult times, I haven’t seen some of the regular carers for my father but the staff who arrange
the visits go out of their way to make sure the visits go to plan.

Unfortunately, due to Covid problems, I could not come from Leeds to visit my friend of many years, but the staff never made me feel a nuisance once when I rang and allowed me to speak to her if she was awake. She always referred to the staff as very good and kind - a real compliment and sincerely meant.
I consider her care was excellent, and the only thing upsetting was that no one came to see her - sadly, no one could at the time.

Firstly, in these very trying times, the care staff in Shawcross have stepped up to a whole new level of care. Having both my parents in Shawcross, I assure you, I can speak with confidence on their amazing devotion to the residents. My Mum has been on the EMI unit for approximately 8-years; the love
and care she has had, and still gets daily, is remarkable. Every member of the staff on EMI deserve a gold medal; they are brilliant with my mum; it's like she is looked after by her own family. We can't praise the place enough. Also, on the nursing side where my dad been for a couple of years is exactly the same, I echo my words above. Unbelievable and remarkable staff throughout. Now that we can visit again, the two young ladies doing the testing and booking are brilliant and dedicated beyond belief. Thank you so much both of you. Also, the improvement on hygiene and general tidiness of the place has improved, the activity's team, cleaners, maintenance staff, laundry also deserves big praise.

Anoj has worked in the Health and Social Care Sector for over 20 years. He loves being able to make positive changes in his residents’ lives. He has a Level 4 NVQ in General Nursing and Psychiatry, a Registered Manager’s Award and a qualification in Mentorship Training. He spent 10 years working in a Psychiatric Hospital before changing his career path to caring for the elderly. As Home Manager, Anoj loves utilising his leadership skills by being a supportive role model for his team, to build their confidence, self-worth and drive. When he isn’t working, Anoj likes playing football and going on hikes. He is also very family-minded and loves to spend time with them whenever he can.
