I have only recently been able to see my mother and therefore have limited experience of the home. However, from what I have seen she seems to be well cared for.
I would like to have regular updates on my mother's care and medical position as she is unable to communicate with me herself.

I visited my dad today as I have done since visits started again. The home has been beyond excellent looking after Dad both before and during the pandemic. When no visits were possible, we were given lots of updates and photos/videos, and there were ample activities for residents.
The home adhered
to Covid regulations meticulously - I was met at my car and given a lateral flow test, my details checked, then after the result was provided with appropriate PPE. They have appointed a person to oversee this to make sure appointments run smoothly, and she was extremely helpful and friendly.
It is clear that Dad has formed a bond with his carers, who spoke to him affectionately and made him smile. His room is bright and cheerful, and the windows open while he had been in the lounge, so he had fresh air.
It is a hard decision to have a relative in a care home, but the love and attention Dad gets at Shawcross have made it much easier. I cannot praise the lovely staff too highly; Dad is treated so well.

A wonderful home that cares for and looks after my mother-in-law. All the staff are friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. One lady, in particular, has kept us in touch with Mum during Covid lockdown through video calls. A truly wonderful person.

Mum moved to Shawcross following four weeks in the hospital back in Sept 2020. The staff have ensured Mum has been able to settle into her new environment, during these hard times and ensured that although we haven’t been able to visit, (I’ve never been inside), we have been able to FaceTime regularly.
Mum now appears to have made a close friend and become more settled than in the early days, but we need to remember these times are hard for the staff and residents too. Care staff do not always get the recognition that they deserve or even a thank you. So, thank you for making Mum smile.

My husband has been here for over 5-years. Apart from food not being good over a year ago, it seems to have improved greatly now. The care is first class, and the staff are brilliant; they work really hard to ensure residents are happy and comfortable.

Give that she does not want to live in the home, Shawcross does a good job. She gets frustrated by the lack of opportunities to go out anywhere. We realise that her worsening dementia is largely to blame. We are disappointed that despite numerous requests, she has not had a hearing test/assessment as
far as we know.

Although I have been unable to enter the home due to current restrictions I found my mother content and happy. The staff are very attentive, food of the highest quality, rooms clean and no unsanitary smells.

Mum has been at Shawcross for a few years now, and I have seen the changes over these years, all for the better since Christmas. The staff are all fantastic and treat Mum with the respect she deserves. Some of them even know Mum better than me, which is great. I would love to book myself in for breakfast,
dinner and tea as the food looks amazing. They have also helped me with some bad times with Mum's condition. So, well done, and thank you.

Shawcross and its staff are a brilliant care home. I have both grandparents at this home in separate areas both with different needs, and staff in both units are friendly, caring and professional. Henry the dog is a great therapy dog, and it’s lovely to see activities that go on throughout the days.
The staff are approachable, and it is always noticed that they go above and beyond to help the residents. Both my grandparents are looked after and treated with respect. It’s a great home, and the staff are brilliant.

I highly recommend Shawcross for your loved ones. My dad was looked after from day one with his specific needs and kept his dignity. Each member of staff was polite and took the time needed to care for him, even when he was grumpy. The meals were catered for his diet and looked that good I could’ve
eaten it myself. I can’t express enough thanks to the whole team of how they treated him A*.

I have previously submitted reviews of Shawcross and of how happy I have been with mums care there but I feel in the current climate I would like to express just how amazing all of the staff have been during the Coronavirus pandemic.
My mum has been a resident at Shawcross for over 7 years and has
always been looked after so well. She is very frail after a really tough year last year so not being able to visit her is difficult but the staff here have gone above and beyond their duty to ensure she is safe and well.
I get regular updates, videos on social media and have spoken to Mum on the phone which has given me so much comfort. The staff at Shawcross love the residents as if they were their own, being with them when we, the relatives, can't.
Words cannot express my gratitude and never-ending thanks to the wonderful carers, housekeepers, cooks, activity staff, maintenance guys and admin staff.

Shawcross is simply an amazing care home, and we are so lucky that all the staff show such dedication in looking and after my parents. Nothing is too much trouble; everyone goes out of their way to help and show you kindness. It really is appreciated, and there is always a lovely happy atmosphere for
residents, with lots of activities on offer.
It is a very difficult time for families when your loved ones need to go into care; it really helps that Shawcross treat their residents like family and with such dignity.

From day one, excellent care provided. All residents seem well looked after and receive the care they need. The care home itself is well maintained and feels like home. When visiting my auntie today (I only visit once a year). I was thrilled to see the nursery children working with the residents. It was a very touching, beneficial session and beautiful to observe. They were making gingerbread men and then the children sang Christmas songs.
The staff all were so caring
it brought a tear to my eye. Well done!

My 96-year-old mother was a resident at Shawcross for some sixteen months until her recent death. Her time there was always made more comfortable for both her and I because of the level and standard of care she received from all staff. As her dependency needs increased, the staff responded with the
same care and attention without missing a beat - a sign of a well-trained, efficient, effective and competent team. Her comfort, dignity and wellbeing were always paramount to the staff and they respected her wishes and treated her, and I, with respect always. All staff are happy to go the extra mile, often under difficult situations, with a smile. The compassion I received at the time of her death and the lead up to it quite overwhelmed me. They were so sympathetic, compassionate and caring. To them, it’s not “just a job”. I will always have fond memories and the highest respect for Four Seasons, Shawcross and the staff.

This care home is where my mum spent her last 15 months and my auntie, her last five years.
The staff could not have looked after them any more than if they were their own relatives, so much so, that as a thank you, I help a little with their weekly bingo.
I could not praise the whole staff enough.

Anoj Kochera

Job Title: Home Manager at Shawcross Care Home, Wigan

Anoj has worked in the Health and Social Care Sector for over 20 years. He loves being able to make positive changes in his residents’ lives. He has a Level 4 NVQ in General Nursing and Psychiatry, a Registered Manager’s Award and a qualification in Mentorship Training. He spent 10 years working in a Psychiatric Hospital before changing his career path to caring for the elderly. As Home Manager, Anoj loves utilising his leadership skills by being a supportive role model for his team, to build their confidence, self-worth and drive. When he isn’t working, Anoj likes playing football and going on hikes. He is also very family-minded and loves to spend time with them whenever he can.
