Accommodation includes comfortable and spacious open plan communal areas as well as furnished bedrooms each offering a TV and telephone point and a 24-hour call system. Outside areas feature large landscaped gardens with a patio and a calming water feature.

Mealtimes are an important part of care objectives and the chef works hard to provide hot and cold options that are satisfying and nutritious. Residents are able to choose snacks from the 'Nite Bite' menu or enjoy home-made cakes daily with afternoon tea.

Regardless of ability, residents can enjoy stimulating and interesting activities which include reminiscence therapy, arts and crafts and beauty therapy. Visitors are always welcome to join in and enjoy some quality time with their loved ones.

Overview

The Review Score of 9 (maximum of 10) for Mersey Parks Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 27 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Mersey Parks Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.362 for Mersey Parks Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (165 Excellents x 5) + (112 Goods x 4) + (33 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 318 Ratings = 4.362

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.667 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mersey Parks Care Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 30 positive Reviews (150 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 20 Reviews ÷ 30 Target = 0.667

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

This is the second home my friend has been in and this home is 100% better than the other one. The staff are so much better and they really seem to care. Also, they always have time for a chat. This was the best choice we could have made.

As we all know, this service is specialised enough only to allow a few to be able to meet it's required criteria. The residents of Mersey Parks Care Home are solely dependent on the care and attention of the cares who are human and try their utmost to attend and accomplish their duties day to day, as unforeseen circumstances may arise at any time.
As a regular visitor, security medical attention, hygiene and social interaction are highly visible on a day to day basis. Well done.

In my opinion, the residents do not get enough activities. The care staff are excellent but at times they are pushed to the limit. The nursing staff always keep me informed. In general, the standard of care is very good.

Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Mersey Parks Care Home responded to this review on 11 May 2018:

Thank you for your review; we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We are really pleased that you feel the standard of care is very good - our staff work hard to provide quality kind care to all our Residents. It is challenging to ensure adequate activities take place across all units given the size and layout of the home. When activities/entertainment is available in one unit, all Residents across all units are welcome to join in. Perhaps there is a need to communicate this more effectively; we are also currently recruiting an activity coordinator to join our already established activities team. We have had some successful events very recently, including afternoon tea with our local MP and friends, National Care Home Open Day, VE Day, day trips to local parks, local schools visiting, a clothes show as well as the regular daily activities. Suggestions are always welcome.

My mum would benefit from regular baths or showers, they do not happen every week or fortnight, she can go for weeks without her hair being washed, the same can also be said about the washing of her feet.

I feel mum would be changed every three hours as sometimes she is left wet and soiled leaving her clothes wet and smelly.

My mother has been in Sefton House since May 17th. I visit most days and find her always in clean clothes, bathed and her hair in rollers. She always eats her food and she looks well. Other residents are all looked after in a similar fashion. The staff look after them well. I would have no worries recommending the home.

Mersey Parks is an excellent care home for the elderly. The management, care and auxiliary staff are highly professional and provide excellent care to those in their care. As a family member, I feel very comfortable knowing that my mother is truly cared for and all of her needs are met. Since she has been here there have been no instances of sickness and I believe this is down to the nursing and prompt action when a UTI presents itself. I would highly recommend to all. A+.

Springfield is a very friendly cheerful place. The staff are excellent and are not only there for the residents but the visitors too. I know that if I miss a day that my dad will be taken care of. I have worked in nursing homes myself and know this is not always the case, my only concern is staff shortage.

Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Mersey Parks Care Home responded to this review on 28 Mar 2018:

Thank you for the kind comments. We review our staffing levels on a regular basis and these are also monitored by senior management. Staffing levels take into consideration the residents currently living on a particular unit and we review dependency, occupancy levels and specific needs of individual residents when staffing levels are determined. It is never our intention to operate short staffed. If ever we experience staff calling in sick at short notice, where possible we replace with our own staff, but on occasions it may be necessary to use agency staff and we may have needed to wait for them to arrive, but this is only ever after opportunities to staff with our own staff have been exhausted. We are happy to report that HC-One have supportive HR and recruitment teams to help us to support our team and to recruit new team members.

Staff all appear extremely caring towards my Mother. She recovered from the bed sores she had developed in hospital. I was pleased that the home was able to provide a special chair for mum. Minor complaints - it took ages to replace some of the damaged furniture and sometimes the supply of correct 'pads' run out.

Thank you for the feedback. The pads are supplied through the local authority and we will always endeavour to anticipate any shortages and order ahead if necessary. Apologies if some furniture was slow in being replaced. We hope that replacement furniture should be available in a timely manner once ordered in future as the transfer to our new owners has now been completed and systems in place to minimise supplier delays.

The staff are excellent, food on most occasions is good, it is served to a high standard and there is plenty of it. The laundry service could do with a little improvement. The rooms are kept clean and aired. Bedding is changed very regularly.

Clare Sheehan, Care Advisor at Mersey Parks Care Home responded to this review on 29 Mar 2018:

Thank you for your feedback. We review our staffing levels regularly and this includes senior management reviewing on a weekly basis. When setting levels we always take into consideration the number of residents living on a unit at that time and dependency levels and needs of the individuals living on that unit. Our staffing levels are able to flex accordingly. The views of staff are also taken into consideration when reviewing dependency levels and we will also take into consideration your views during the next review. We also supplement our staff team by having additional support staff such as Activities assistants on duty.

We find the staff to be polite and helpful. The residents are well cared for.

It is so clean and very well maintained. Food is good and when I visit I'm always asked if I'd like tea or coffee.

Thank you for your review. Your comments are extremely important to us and our residents’ health and well-being is our absolute priority. We will discuss your feedback with the home’s manager to help them continually improve their service.”

My grandmother has been a resident over the past 3 months after breaking her hip. The care, understanding and consideration given in this home is excellent. It is very clean, well organised staff are very pleasant and the residents are treated well. You are encouraged to feed back any issues so they can be dealt with immediately. The food is excellent and full of variety. The residents are encouraged to snack and drink plenty if they cannot face a meal. Their nutrition and hygiene and mental health is obviously continuously addressed and recorded which puts my family at ease. New manager is excellent and morale is high amongst staff and residents.

Always very clean and bright. My father has been treated very well by all members of staff who I have encountered over the last year. I also notice all of the people who live in Mersey Parks are treated with respect and dignity even if their families are around. My father asks the same question about why he is here and the staff are very patient. Access to doctors hairdressers etc seems very well organised. I do not live in Liverpool and am not able to see my father as often as I would like. But knowing I can call and speak to someone is very helpful.
