8 Broadoak Manor Care Home has a Review Score of 8 (8.030)

The Review Score of 8 (maximum of 10) for Broadoak Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 14 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Broadoak Manor Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.405 for Broadoak Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (107 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 163 Ratings = 4.405

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.625 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broadoak Manor Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.5

    2. Target of 24 positive Reviews (120 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 3 Reviews ÷ 24 Target = 0.125

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My husband has lived in Havanagh since March 2017 following a prolonged hospital stay. As a family, we struggled long and hard to support him at home and were very apprehensive about him moving into residential care. However, I have found the nursing care and hospitality staff to be excellent. They are attentive, skilled and treat people with dignity. When sitting with my husband in the lounge I've been impressed by how quickly staff respond to the movements/needs of the other residents. This shows that staff are monitoring even though this isn't evident to those in their care - which is how it should be. Similarly, management are prompt, informative and polite when dealing with queries; even when that's to explain that something can't be done! I am kept informed when my husband has a seizure, which gives me peace of mind. I appreciate that activities are provided for residents regardless of ability and think more funding should be available for the activities coordinator. I'm also impressed with the cleanliness in Havanagh because it's not easy to keep odour to a minimum when so many incontinent people live in one place. As is evident from the tick boxes, I am impressed with the quality of the facilities at Broadoak Manor. It's nice to live in a smart environment but it's the attitude of staff which dictates when a smart building makes a nice home.

My brother went into Broadoak Manor for two weeks respite whilst my husband and I had a holiday.
He seemed really happy there and got on well with all the staff and residents.

Thank you for your review. So glad that your brother enjoyed his stay with us, look forward to him staying again sometime.

As a GP I have visited many homes professionally. On Stapley unit, what stood out about the care for my mother was the staff - professional, unhurried, sensible, supportive and compassionate. Most of all caring. I am very grateful to them all.

Thank you for your review. It is good to know that you feel like this about our staff and know that your Mum is looked after well.

My mother, who is in the last stage of Alzheimers, had been served notice to quit the home by management. So the family had arranged for her to be taken to another care home. When my sister arrived at this care home, she was greeted by the Unit Manager who said to her nonchalantly 'she's already gone'. My mother had been put in a taxi and taken to the other care home, without a family member being able to go with her, and left her at the other care home with the words 'she needs her pad changing'.
I find this despicable behaviour by the Management of this care home. They did not have the decency or manners to inform either the family or the other care home as to what was happening with my mother. The other care home was expecting my mother to be transported at approx 2pm, she arrived at 11am and nothing was ready for her.

My dad who has Alzheimer's, went into this home in Aug 2016 for 4 days as emergency respite as my mum had been taken into hospital The morning after his 1st night, I went to collect him. He was dressed but I was told he'd had a toileting accident during the night, and when I asked had he been showered I was told that he hadn't. I requested for him to be showered, which he reluctantly was with my help and a member of staff. Two days later we brought him out for good, as on the 3rd night we took him back to the home at approx 9pm from visiting my sick mum in hospital all day, to find that his bedding including his bottom sheet, quilt and quilt cover were wet from a toileting accident during the previous night as it hadn't been changed in the morning. Had to go and ask staff for clean bedding which was handed over to me to make the bed. As it was late we settled dad into a clean dry bed for the night and planned on taking him out the day after. Reported to CQC.

My mother has advanced Alzheimer's and requires 24 hours nursing care. She moved to 'Broadoak Manor Care Home' a few weeks ago and settled in right away thanks to the care and support of all the staff in the unit. I didn't think anyone could care for my mum like we have but I was wrong. There is a real family caring attitude on the unit, which has had a real positive effect on my mother.

There is very little activities for the residents, they are not taken out. The lounge can be a little crowded at times. It is difficult for relatives to have conversations due to space. The staff are extremely helpful and caring towards the residents.

My mother has been a resident of Broadoak Manor for the last 2 years. I have found the care and treatment of her to be very satisfactory. The staff are very caring and interact well with the residents. My mother has shown a great improvement since entering the home. I leave her knowing that she has been given the best of care. A big thanks to all the staff at Broadoak Manor.

My mum who has severe dementia is well taken care of , she is clean and well dressed and involved. The carers interact with her constantly. She doesn't know me or anyone else now but responds to every ones kindness by babbling away happily. She watches what is going on, she is eating well and I constantly provided with biscuits, tea, snacks and juice. I do not live in St Helen's but after a visit I return to my home in a relaxed state knowing she is having the best possible care. Thank you Broadoak Manor

During the spell of good weather the residents were able to sit out in the garden and enjoy the sunshine. They were protected with sun umbrellas and sun cream and wearing sun hats. There were jugs of iced drinks around and glasses were re-filled often. The carers were sat chatting to them all and everyone seemed very happy.

I find Stapley Broadoak St Helen's the best run nursing home available. The staff and people working in the home are so polite, kind and very efficient at their job. Nothing is of any trouble to them when asking how my mother has been looked after. They provide excellent service and go out of their way to ensure she is comfortable and getting the best help any person could ask for. (I thank them for that)
