My mother-in-law has resided here for 3 years. Always clean and tidy. The staff are welcoming, happy, nicely dressed adn well groomed. The meals are varied and look nice. Kept updated by phone re wellbeing and care plan. We feel she is well looked after and all her needs are met. Covid regulations adhered

The staff at Stapley were very kind to my mum during her 8 years there. They treated her with dignity and with extreme patience especially over the last couple of years. Sadly mum passed away in March but in her last few days, they were lovely. We will never forget their kindness.

The staff are welcoming and seem to take careful care of the residents. When they can, the staff do try to talk to the residents and assess how they feel if they have just arrived and unsure, but after a short period, seem to settle in. The staff do help them to befriend others already there, which
helps the new comer. If there are any problems, such as help with dressing are covered, and assistance is given. When possible to talk to the residents, particularly if they have just arrived in the past few days to help them to settle in.

My husband was admitted as an emergency respite resident on 20/1/19. I was very upset at the time so all this was new to us but the staff were very good and I found a lot of comfort knowing that he was in a safe place and being well cared for. Nothing is too much trouble for all the staff and my husband
is treated with dignity at all times. They are all doing a wonderful job.

From the first visit when we met the admin staff and were shown around Broadoak Manor we knew this was the right place for my father-in-law.
Havanagh House (one of the bungalows) is a friendly and stimulating environment for residents with dementia set in lovely grounds. The staff demonstrated a
professional manner, being caring and friendly whilst observant of need. Any needs were identified and acted on quickly. Information on his previous life was requested in order to give personalised care. Rooms were clean and personalised and the corridors were filled with items to stimulate residents. Staff were always able to discuss what foods he had consumed that day and of his mood and well being.
The environment of Broadoak Manor felt like a proper home. Relatives were made welcome and included in activities. At each visit, staff were observed interacting with residents and families.
It felt that we were leaving my father in law in safe hands when we left.

I have completed this review as my Dad has Alzheimer's and terminal stomach cancer and recently came to stay for respite. He has been well looked after and welcomed. The staff are very caring and have fun and laughter in abundance. Boundless energy and compassion for all who stay there. My Dad's needs
are attended to well on a daily basis, he is very confused but shows his love and gratitude to the staff openly so we know he feels secure in their care. Lots of structure to his day helps and company, but if he wants peace and quiet he can have that too.

My Mum has been in this care home since May, she is extremely happy and settled. There's always a friendly atmosphere. The carers are always very approachable, going out of their way to help you the best they can. They are also very kind, caring and patient meeting all Mum's needs. The home itself offers
lots of activities to ensure that no one is lacking stimulation. I would highly recommend this home to anyone.

My dad needed 24hour care after neglecting to eat at home. Dad's first day at Broadoak, he was offered his dinner by the chef. My dad tucked into his meal, was offered a second helping, he finished it with a smile. He of, course, had moments when he was unsure. Support for him was from staff and residents,
who reassured him. His first night he was helped to bed, the carers plumped his pillows, adding an extra one at his request. He told me he loved his comfortable bed and was in heaven when in it. The carers always remembered to make him comfortable. My dad visited the theatre, went on minibus rides. He was also taken around the gardens at Broadoak, every day, one to one with a carer. I was made to feel one of the team.

My husband has lived in Havanagh since March 2017 following a prolonged hospital stay. As a family, we struggled long and hard to support him at home and were very apprehensive about him moving into residential care. However, I have found the nursing care and hospitality staff to be excellent. They
are attentive, skilled and treat people with dignity. When sitting with my husband in the lounge I've been impressed by how quickly staff respond to the movements/needs of the other residents. This shows that staff are monitoring even though this isn't evident to those in their care - which is how it should be. Similarly, management are prompt, informative and polite when dealing with queries; even when that's to explain that something can't be done! I am kept informed when my husband has a seizure, which gives me peace of mind. I appreciate that activities are provided for residents regardless of ability and think more funding should be available for the activities coordinator. I'm also impressed with the cleanliness in Havanagh because it's not easy to keep odour to a minimum when so many incontinent people live in one place. As is evident from the tick boxes, I am impressed with the quality of the facilities at Broadoak Manor. It's nice to live in a smart environment but it's the attitude of staff which dictates when a smart building makes a nice home.

My brother went into Broadoak Manor for two weeks respite whilst my husband and I had a holiday.
He seemed really happy there and got on well with all the staff and residents.

As a GP I have visited many homes professionally. On Stapley unit, what stood out about the care for my mother was the staff - professional, unhurried, sensible, supportive and compassionate. Most of all caring. I am very grateful to them all.

My mother,who is in the last stage of Alzheimers, had been served notice to quit the home by management. So the family had arranged for her to be taken to another care home. When my sister arrived at this care home, she was greeted by the Unit Manager who said to her nonchalantly 'she's already gone'.
My mother had been put in a taxi and taken to the other care home, without a family member being able to go with her, and left her at the other care home with the words 'she needs her pad changing'.
I find this despicable behaviour by the Management of this care home. They did not have the decency or manners to inform either the family or the other care home as to what was happening with my mother. The other care home was expecting my mother to be transported at approx 2pm, she arrived at 11am and nothing was ready for her.

My dad who has Alzheimer's, went into this home in Aug 2016 for 4 days as emergency respite as my mum had been taken into hospital The morning after his 1st night, I went to collect him. He was dressed but I was told he'd had a toileting accident during the night, and when I asked had he been showered
I was told that he hadn't. I requested for him to be showered, which he reluctantly was with my help and a member of staff. Two days later we brought him out for good, as on the 3rd night we took him back to the home at approx 9pm from visiting my sick mum in hospital all day, to find that his bedding including his bottom sheet, quilt and quilt cover were wet from a toileting accident during the previous night as it hadn't been changed in the morning. Had to go and ask staff for clean bedding which was handed over to me to make the bed. As it was late we settled dad into a clean dry bed for the night and planned on taking him out the day after. Reported to CQC.

My mother has advanced Alzheimer's and requires 24 hours nursing care. She moved to 'Broadoak Manor Care Home' a few weeks ago and settled in right away thanks to the care and support of all the staff in the unit. I didn't think anyone could care for my mum like we have but I was wrong. There is a real
family caring attitude on the unit, which has had a real positive effect on my mother.

There is very little activities for the residents, they are not taken out. The lounge can be a little crowded at times. It is difficult for relatives to have conversations due to space. The staff are extremely helpful and caring towards the residents.

What does kindness mean to you?


“Getting to know our Residents, their history, likes and dislikes. I really enjoy sitting and having a chat, getting to know peoples’ life stories and history, and sharing mine too.”


As a Registered Adult Nurse, Patrick has gained many years of experience in providing care and support for older people to enrich their lives. He is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest possible standards of care and quality of life for Residents.


Patrick shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. He uses his experience to motivate his team to deliver care and support in a way that Residents gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Patrick remarked:


“Meeting new people, in my job I speak to a lot of Residents, families, friends, Colleagues and professionals from the community.”


Outside of work, Patrick enjoys travelling and cruises, with his favourite place to visit being the USA. He also says his biggest achievement was when he finished university and registered as a nurse, as he was able to save up and buy a house with a garden, so he could get a pet dog.
