Fantastic home .. the care my dad received was above and beyond and we as a family will be forever grateful for everything they have done for my dad. He was looked after with kindness and dignity and was always safe and happy.

Mum has been a resident at Acorn Manor for over 3 years now and the care she has received from the manager and all the staff has been excellent, including support for dentist and hospital visits, trips out and just helping her with mobility and social interaction.

I regularly visit my dear friend at Acorn Manor, and am always impressed by the brightly decorated hallways, and things to look at and read (an up-to-date notice board with photographs of the residents' previous months' activities, and posters for upcoming events, for example).
Communal and dining
areas are often decorated to themes, with obvious participation from residents' in the form of arts and craft projects. My friend tell me that there are fun and wide ranging activities on offer to residents daily, by efforts of the single staff member, who also takes time to visit people in their rooms, if they are unable to get out.
The management team is equally hardworking from my observations, sometimes joining in with impromptu dance sessions, making effort to be a friendly face amongst the residents, and offering a listening ear, and support, to whoever needs it.

Acorn cared for my father both before, and during COVID, pre COVID we were made welcome to and encouraged to make visits to see him whenever we wanted. On every visit we were very impressed with the delivery of care, the standard of care, and the respect my Father received.
My father was unable to
mask his feelings due to his illness and it was so easy to see he felt safe, secure, and cared for throughout his stay.
During COVID Acorn maintained the most stringent of rules but only in order to keep the service users in safety, and when times started to relax, made every effort in order to allow access for us.
I would recommend highly. The staff were friendly, courteous but above all Professional at all times.

My mum has been in the care of Acorn Manor for around 3 yrs. The staff are brilliant with her, making her feel safe and as happy as she can be at this difficult time. The home is clean and tidy but a little dated. Overall I am happy with the level of care mum gets. In her time at Acorn Manor mum has
formed a close attachment to a number of the staff, but I must give a special mention to one member of staff, who has gone above and beyond for mum.

My Mother has been a resident at Acorn Manor for over 4 years . She is very well looked after and they cater for Mum's dietary needs. The food is excellent. What drew me to this home was the feeling of it being like a happy family . all the staff are so caring and friendly, I feel like I'm walking into
a really happy environment when I visit . I often bring my dog in and all the residents love to pet her . The girls are always busy , nothing is too much trouble . The place is spotless and refurbished regularly. The resident events coordinator caters for everyone with trips out, parties , fundraising events and classes for the service users . The handyman deserves a mention as he will do any jobs to help me if anything special needs doing in Mum's room . The Doctor is called out immediately if needed and the Chiropidist and hairdresser is also on hand . It cheers Mum up to get her weekly blow dry and I don't have to take her out .
I would really recommend Acorn Manor .

Very disappointed about the latest price hike!
You are adding £100 per month to an already overpriced care home, i have done the research and you are by far the most expensive in the area, FOR WHAT YOU PROVIDE,
We are keen to stay loyal to the area, and we have put up with you raising the prices FOUR
OR FIVE TIMES NOW, but this is CLEARLY a rip off with only one short paragraph of explanation as to why you are adding OVER £400 PER MONTH in one price hike.
i have worked in the care sector for 40 years, i never experienced such poor communication management, especially from the finance management, who struggle to even answer my e mails. Will be speaking with my mother about moving
very, very disappointed.

While we welcome feedback, we're surprised and saddened by this review, particularly given the supportive relationship we've shared over the past three years. Since 2022, M has been a much-loved member of our home. You have consistently expressed praise for the care she receives from our dedicated team. The recent fee review is in line with local market rates and reflects pressures entirely beyond our control, including:- Substantial increases due to the national rise in the Living Wage and employer contributions- Utility costs that have risen over 100% - Ongoing increases in food and consumables affecting everyoneWe understand pricing is sensitive, but it's grossly unfair to rate all categories poorly when the issue is solely financial. When M personal fund ceased, our staff and provider quietly covered costs so she could continue enjoying things like her daily newspaper. Our team continues to act with compassion and professionalism, regardless of challenges.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.868)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.868) out of 10 for Acorn Manor Residential Care is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.268 for Acorn Manor Residential Care is calculated as follows: ( (54 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.268
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Acorn Manor Residential Care is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
