My mum has been in this care home for thirteen weeks. The staff have treated her with compassion and dignity. They are very caring and friendly and are a credit to their profession. I would like to thank one and all for the exemplary care she received.

To who this may concern,
I wanted to put down in writing, my sincerest gratitude possible to the staff at Church House in Nantwich especially the nurse.
Every time I visited my grandad not only could I see he was being cared for in a fantastic manner, but also I was made to feel welcome each time.
Little
things like an offer of a drink or the nurse's head popping round the door to say Hi, is everything ok.
Finally, I want to say when I left, just before I went through the door, the nurse gave me a big hug. Now it’s a very small thing but it was perfect timing as I really did need that and I am also so grateful for it.
I hope you can pass on my gratitude to the wonderful team and thank you again.

I have been here five years at Church House Care Home. It still is a good place to be in.
I have a lovely bedroom to sleep in. Good food, a nice lounge to watch the television and to play bingo there.

I could not have hoped for a higher standard of care for my mother in the last three months of her life. She was given dignity, compassion and respect. When I visited her, I encountered professionalism and politeness from the staff at every level. All my questions were answered honestly and openly.
I was kept fully informed of the situation at all times. Covid regulations were strictly adhered to, and the safety of all residents was of utmost importance to the staff. My mother got on well with all the staff and felt that she was being listened to and her requests and needs fulfilled.
Thank you again, Church House Nursing Home.
Reply from Francesca MacDuff-Varley, Marketing Manager at Church HouseDear David, thank you for your lovely response. We are very happy to hear the last few months were happy and comfortable. I will pass your kind words onto our team.

The staff are brilliant and work hard to please. The activities coordinator is amazing, she is such a wonderful lady, helping out and organising events and things to do - absolutely brilliant.
Management not so good, need to be around talking to families and solving any problems or issues.

My relative has settled so well. The staff are mostly wonderful! The head activities coordinator is amazing. She adores the residents and makes their lives fun. There are some staff I would love to mention, who have helped me get my relative settled and the care needed.

Despite all the necessary Covid precautions, I was made extremely welcome by the staff. One lady was very patient with me, as I don't cope well with the Covid throat swabs. The home is in a beautiful setting; it is extremely homely and does not feel like an "institution"! The staff were warm/friendly.
Room on the smaller side, but nice views.

On arrival at Church House, my mother was required to isolate due to Covid, not a problem in itself, however, the room in which my mother was placed was too small and affected her mental health, she was not washed for three days, the clothes that she arrived in were left at the end of her bed for two
weeks. My mother felt she was being forced to live in a sty. At the end of the ten days which she had been counting down, she was told she could not leave her room as they had not yet arranged any portable oxygen for her. This was cruel and made her completely distraught, not the actions of a home that cares for its residents.
On a couple of occasions, statements that the staff made were not truthful, there was a general lack of care and much of the time my mother felt as though any concerns she had were being ignored.
Awful experience, my mother moved to a different home where the staff are more caring and listen to my mother and provide the care she needs and deserves. Do not use this care home.
Reply from Francesca MacDuff-Varley, Manager at Church HouseDear Kathryn,
Thank you for your honest review. We can only apologise for your mother’s experience and I want to personally assure you that this will be fully looked into. This is not the high standard our homes adhere to and I want to thank you for highlighting these issues.
Many thanks, Francesca

Mum had been in Church House for two years and has recently passed away. The care she received and the care and consideration our family received was outstanding - so thoughtful and willing to help us cope with the sadness and emotion of the situation. No detail was too small.

My mum has been a resident in Church House for over four years, she always tells me how happy she is and how well cared for she is. This is evident in her appearance and general demeanour. The activities coordinator ensures that she takes part in games, quizzes, singsongs and crafts. She is never bored.
All the food is homemade and prepared to a high standard.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.553)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.553) out of 10 for Church House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.603 for Church House is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 209 Ratings = 4.603
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Church House is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
