Acorn Meadow care home, situated in the beautiful part of Lostock Gralam, Northwich, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential dementia care.

This newly-refurbished, cosy home has been tastefully decorated for maximum comfort whilst the landscaped garden provides a restful place for residents to catch up with friends and family or simply to enjoy the outdoors with a cup of tea. To ensure residents always feel at home, the comfortable living areas and bedrooms are all easily accessible by wheelchair.

Up until the unannounced inspection, it was obvious that the home was having some difficulty in attracting staff.
This was mainly evident from the high number of agency staff being deployed, particularly at weekends. Overall I considered that this would have an adverse impact on the residents in terms
of continuity of care and safety.
Since the inspection report, it is evident that greater effort has been put into this area and I am pleased that the home now appears to be adequately staffed and the carers appear to have some quality time to spend with individual residents. I am less concerned about my mother's safety than I was pre-inspection.

I have spent many hours sitting and trying to do my best to take a bit of the burden to help staff look after my husband and everyone is so appreciative. I don't have to do this but I am glad to help while I am able.
The staff do a really good job and are pleasant and kind with everyone if you live
or visit. Making it as much as possible, a clean and really nice place to visit.

My mum was admitted to Avondale Lodge care home in November 2017 for respite care. I can't fault the home and the staff because they have been fantastic. The staff are all so nice and friendly and the care is excellent. In February 2018, we were told my mum can stay permanently. Mum has dementia and
is very confused and I especially like the entertainment that's organised there. Thank you.

My brother was a resident at Avandale Lodge Care Home, whilst he was there he received good treatment from the friendly care staff , the home always kept me well informed and I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone who had similar problems to my brother (Dementia and Nursing care requirements
as he was unable to look after himself).

I visit my sister-in-law for an hour weekly, therefore my observations are limited. Residents physical needs seem to be met well and they are treated with dignity. The lounges are kept clean and tidy. Emotional support is given by the staff. Probably due to staffing levels staff cannot always be present
to meet residents continence needs. Perhaps a little more stimulation to residents who cannot actively take part would be welcome. The upgrade of facilities looks very good. I am unable to comment on meals or management issues.

I feel very relieved to have found this care home for my mother, she has been given professional care and understanding here. She had to be moved from a basic care home to one that offers dementia care, and it is quite clear that her support has really increased since moving to Avandale Lodge Care Home.
I give particular thanks to the staff for their patience and kindness.

My elderly aunt went into Avandale Lodge following discharge from hospital. She had recovered from pneumonia but was suffering from cardiac failure. She was also in the later stages of dementia.
The wonderful staff made the last four weeks of my aunt's life as comfortable as possible despite her
not being able to move of her own accord, and only being semi-conscious.
She was kept clean and had fresh bedding and nightwear every single day. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about her condition but it wasn't just that which impressed and reassured us as a family - they cared ABOUT my aunt as well as caring FOR her.
I never visited the are home and found staff to be anything other than pleasant and smiling, including those who weren't involved in my aunt's care.
I would recommend Avandale to anyone who is in need of such specialist care. The people who work here are angels in disguise.

As a dedicated healthcare professional, Lorna has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for residents.


Having worked at HC-One for many years, Lorna closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Lorna remarked:


“Every day is a different day, and I enjoy meeting different people and knowing and forming a bond with residents and relatives.”


Outside of work, Lorna enjoys Family walks with her little puppy and traveling.
