Initially, my dad went to Pinetum for respite care. When permanent living was required he requested to remain at Pinetum. His care from both upstairs and downstairs was excellent. Whenever leaving we would feel he was in caring and capable hands. He was treated compassionately for palliative/end-of-life care and made comfortable. The staff were respectful and considered his dignity.
We were kept informed when needed. The competent care provided allowed us as a family to feel supported.

Dad lived at Pinetum for 4 months, we feel grateful that he was safe and settled there for his final resting place.

My husband was in Pinetum Care Home for ten years, for most of those ten years he was bedridden. His care was 100% and management and all of the carers became like family. I was always able to talk to someone if I had any worries. There was always a lovely, relaxed and welcoming feeling as you entered the home. On three occasions they have saved his life. When my husband passed away in March they were there for me. He had issues which they were able to cope with. The staff and I still keep in contact. If I could give them stars it would be more than five. God bless every member of staff at Pinetum. You are hard-working angels, thank you.

I am so very impressed with the level of care my partner is receiving here. She has very complex and severe care needs that fluctuate on a day-to-day level and the care staff have taken the time to get to know her and her conditions thoroughly in only a short time. When she became ill they responded quickly and effectively and did all the right things. I trust them completely to do the right thing and provide the best care. Most importantly, she feels safe and well looked after. I will be putting a formal compliment into the management ASAP.

Mum left in bed for hours seeing no one. Food left as unable to reach. Continually getting infections and had fungus growing on her feet. Showered infrequently, hair not washed. Tablets found in bed, poor nursing care. Very disappointed.

My mum has been here for 7 weeks after breaking her knee, and on her subsequent discharge from the hospital. I cannot fault the care Mum has received and the staff are amazing. They have cared for and loved Mum, and she will be sad to leave them when she moves on to her new nursing home. They all deserve a pay rise. However, on the negative side, I would say that this home needs investment. It is worn down and decidedly uninspiring in terms of decor and facilities. It is a shame really as I think surroundings are so important to the elderly and frail when they have little else to do due to their illnesses or physical ability.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Pinetum

Thank you for taking the time to review Pinetum Care Home. We are delighted to read your wonderful comments about our team and the quality of care your mum received. We are very excited that plans are underway to refurbish Pinetum which will upgrade the décor and furnishings.

The staff are absolutely brilliant, patient and my sister loves it there. I have seen her for the first time in a pod because of this lockdown and she looks brilliant. Can't thank the staff enough, I even rang after I had been to thank them for how well she is being looked after and how well she looks. Thank you very much.

All very good and helped my uncle very much. From when he came out of hospital, he said that he likes all the food he receives. He likes all the staff that help him. He is very comfortable with Pinetum as they keep him safe from Covid19 and assisted him with getting his first jab.

I cannot express how amazing the staff at Pinetum are. The care they give my father is beyond what we could have wished for. The staff are very friendly, caring and patient. During this pandemic, they have all worked so hard to keep everyone safe and kept the family informed every step of the way. The home is very welcoming and clean. As a family, we will never be able to thank them enough for everything they do.

Our mother, aged 94 was a resident at Pinetum until she peacefully passed away recently. The care that she received and the support that was always provided for us was excellent in every way. Most importantly, there was continuity of care with staff really getting to know our Mum and treating her with warmth and professionalism. Throughout Covid, we were facilitated to visit safely, when permitted, and otherwise, we had weekly Skype calls and used the excellent Relsapp. Many thanks for looking after our mother as we would have wished and creating a 'homely' environment which felt like a family.

My dear friend aged 84, was transferred to Pinetum Care Chester, from hospital after 4-months of illness, so he arrived frail, nervous and withdrawn. The care and support were given to him from day one, and throughout the 6-weeks he was at Pinetum was a very strong link in his recovery to a good standard of health and confidence. He was transferred from Pinetum mid-February, somewhat saddened to be transferred to his permanent nursing home closer to his roots. We cannot thank the care, support and understanding, patience and enthusiasm of all the staff, of Pinetum, who were committed to sending him onwards in the best of health.

The outcome of this is that he moved into his new home, and was able to settle very quickly, make friends and start to enjoy his now new home, with the outlook of many more years of a happy life. Tragically he, unfortunately, passed with the Covid 19 virus, leaving this world far too soon. My thanks to all carers, for all folks, who have been taken with this disease

My mother was discharged from hospital into the care of Pinetum in November 2019. I have found the level of care and compassion to be excellent from the management and all levels of interaction. The care has been instrumental in reducing the stress and trauma my mother was experiencing.

My husband was very ill and vulnerable due to his condition and was unable to communicate.

From the day he arrived, we, as a family, were sure he was well cared for and all his needs met. As he deteriorated, the care was updated appropriately. We were also supported.

I have been visiting a dear friend who is resident at Pinetum for several months. I visit at various times of the day. I have been pleasantly surprised by the home and its staff. Having had limited experience of care homes, Pinetum compared very favourably to the last one I visited. There is no unpleasant smell as you enter the building, everywhere is well maintained and the staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming, always offering visitors a cup of tea or coffee. It is often difficult for relatives and/or friends to look for care accommodation for loved ones but I can genuinely recommend Pinetum as an option.

My Nan had been in and out of care homes for 12 months. As a family, we believe that the care provided within Pinetum was exceptional and the best across Chester. The staff (including cleaners, carers and everyone) would not be anymore caring and considerate. They collectively create an environment where family go away feeling and believing that their loved ones are in safe hands. I and my family have been delighted with the support provided. Please thank everyone involved. Outstanding quality of service.

My Father was a resident here until he passed. Every member of staff were beyond caring and treated my Father with dignity and respect. Myself and my children were treated with extreme decency and looked after as much as humanly possible. Everywhere was spotless and personal care of residents was second to none. We stayed for 4 days without a break. The staff made USC feel welcome and everything was explained. If I needed to go into a care home, I couldn't wish for a better place.

The care my dad received from the Pinetum staff was excellent.
Their compassion was second to none.
The home was beautiful and clean.
Unfortunately there were occasional toilet smells on my dad's floor - through no fault of the staff as they always took care to distinguish unpleasant odours rapidly.
The laundry service was excellent too.
Can't comment on the food as my dad's diet was virtually non existent, but the chef's patience was wonderful and he tried his hardest to offer anything to my dad.

The separate financial side of things was very upsetting for my mum and I believe she has written to the council over this.

My husband was transferred to Pinetum from the adjacent hospital as part of their "winter beds scheme". He has now been at Pinetum for two months and will continue to be cared for there as a permanent resident.

During this time we have received nothing but kindness, care and professionalism from all the staff, some of whom have been there for many years.

My husband is the second member of his family to reside at Pinetum and because of the care his sister received this has been our only preference. I wouldn't want him to be anywhere else and I do hope he is able to see out his life in their care.

My mother was admitted to Pinetum Nursing Home on the 19th of August after leaving hospital. Mum was being treated as palliative due to stomach cancer. Pinetum staff made me and mum welcome from the very start. They cared and looked after mum, showing compassion, sharing experiences with me, supporting and comforted us both. Nothing was too much effort 24/7. They continued their care for the entire time she was there - she passed away on 16/9/16. Domestic, catering, care workers and nurses showed care and compassion. I always felt welcome and part of the 'Pinetum family'. Nothing at all was too much trouble. I can't thank them all enough for the care they gave.

Meet the Team (1)

Narcis Mitu
Narcis MituJob Title Home Manager

I worked as a nurse in Romania from 1998 to 2016 when I joined Care UK.

Care UK’s strong values were what made me decide to come to the UK and work here. After speaking with team members in the home, I felt it was a good opportunity for me to develop my career.

When I first joined Care UK, I worked as a nurse. I was soon promoted to Night Nurse Manager, then Deputy Manager and now Home Manager.

My role is to ensure the home is safe and comfortable for residents and to provide support to colleagues in our team. In this role, you need to have strong leadership, communication and time management skills. It’s also important to be confident and experienced and respect others.

My favourite part of the day is our team meeting, where all the colleagues in the home get together and make plans for how we move forward. At Pinetum, we have a strong sense of teamwork, and I’m proud of our colleagues’ commitment, which helps us to get through any challenges together.

Outside of work, I enjoy fishing and reading.
