The team organised a lovely meal and birthday cake for my Dad when me and my mum visited him to celebrate his 85th Birthday and their 50th wedding anniversary. It was a lovely day spent with Dad. The team have been looking after Dad really well since he arrived a couple of months ago. Thank you team,
you're brilliant.

My father spent the last five years of his life at Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home. They were brilliant from start to finish. All of the staff were skilled, patient, caring and committed throughout. There were some tough times however, they created a good place for him which meant he was settled
and peaceful, giving his wider family peace of mind too. We were always made welcome. Can't thank them enough.
Reply from Fiona Gough, GM at Barchester Adlington Manor Care HomeThank you for your lovely words. It was a pleasure to look after your father and he will always be in our hearts.

My father has been a resident at Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home for several years now, with severe dementia. During that time, the care he has had from the staff and management has been outstanding. From the moment he first arrived until now, the team have cared for him in such a way I have never
had to doubt his welfare needs are taken care of, which gives me great comfort. It hasn't been inexpensive but what price peace of mind is where my lovely dad is concerned? Thank you.

Excellent manager, finger on the pulse, kind to residents and staff.
I could not single out any member of staff for being excellent as they are all lovely, caring people who do a wonderful job. To me, they are very special people. Regarding food - Mum eats very little and the staff are always willing
to provide alternative meals, should she not want what is on offer. The roast dinners are beautiful.
Regarding value for money - (no reflection on staff) more than willing to discuss with Barchester "owners">
Of course, Mum would rather be in her own home but realises it is no longer possible. She tells me that, in light of her bungalow no longer being an option, Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is the next best place which is great news and peace of mind.

Very disappointed with the whole experience.
My mother-in-law's stay here was for 3 months before we were able to secure a new bed for her elsewhere. She was discharged from the hospital to help with her dementia related needs. From the very beginning we were dissatisfied with the level of care she
was given, repeated falls from her bed didn't seem to concern them, despite being on a no solid food plan, inappropriate meals were left in her room on a daily basis, no assistance was given to eat, her hygiene was neglected throughout her whole stay.
As a family we attempted to engage with the home on multiple occasions, the management team were largely disinterested, bland promises which were unfulfilled and multiple excuses for failings in care. We didn't see any proactive responses during her whole stay. The premises are lovely, but the staff seemed largely disinterested in providing care for the individuals.

It's important when reading these reviews to note the difference between Rowan unit and the main house.
My Mum was in the main house, recently the unit manager from Rowan was covering for holiday for the manager and it was the best week we had! My Mum was placed here on a discharge from the hospital
to be assessed. She has Lewy bodies Parkinson's and mobility and eating issues. We had multiple falls in a room too small, and food was left in her room with little care as to whether she ate it or not or was sick. Recently I was with her in the lounge, she was sick all over herself and the carers were too busy chatting around the dining table (not with residents) to help me, I was told 'they would clean her up shortly! Generally, I found communication poor, updates non-existent, and staff lacking motivation. A few carers were good, but generally, I found the home to have a lack of consideration and respect.
As soon as we were assessed for funding and could go elsewhere we have! The overall culture was poor!

Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is truly a lifesaver for our family. Our mum had been so resistant to going into a care home and so we supported her independently living at home as long as we could. After many falls and despite a lot of support, her needs became too much to facilitate care at home
any longer. I saw several care homes that definitely did not meet Mum's needs (one was an absolute shocker, obviously not naming here and can only hope they buck their ideas up) but Adlington, from the moment I walked through the door, I felt was warm - as in friendly - professional, clean and the staff were super attentive. As I've got to know everyone, it's the staff that make this place very special. They are so lovely and are making my mum's last few months and hopefully years the very best they can be. She is happy and safe. That's the best outcome for our family right now. Thank you all at Adlington.

Adlington Manor Nursing Home's Rowan Unit is a truly exceptional facility. My friend resides in the Rowan Unit and I must say, they are very well taken care of. The residents in this unit are always happy, engaged in activities, and receive the highest level of care.
I have personally witnessed the
incredible job that the senior nurse and unit manager are doing. Their leadership and dedication to the residents are truly remarkable. They ensure that each resident is treated with respect, dignity, and compassion. The residents have formed a strong bond with the staff and it is evident that they are well-loved and well-cared for.
Overall, I highly recommend Adlington Manor Nursing Home's Rowan Unit for anyone looking for a caring and supportive environment for their loved one. The staff's dedication, compassion, and leadership make it a top-notch facility for seniors in need of quality care.

Although the decision to transfer my husband to this care home was made by the hospital, without my agreement, I am glad to say that I am very pleased with the care he has received over the last three months. The nurses, care workers, manager and all the other members of staff I have spoken to are friendly,
kind and willing to do all they can to make my husband's life safe and contented. It is a very welcoming environment, visiting is encouraged and both facilities and meals are excellent. All his visitors, friends and family, have been very impressed by his new home.

My lovely Dad had the misfortune of being a resident at Adlington Manor in October 2023. Dad had complex health needs alongside dementia. Despite this, we were assured he could be managed and would be well cared for. From the start, it was clear this wasn’t going to happen. Dad was constantly having
falls, and multiple head injuries and at one point managed to pull a bookcase on top of himself. He would call us all the time distressed, most frequent during the night. Staff seemed to need a family member constantly present to manage him and were clearly unable to provide adequate supervision. Senior staff stopped and started his medication believing themselves more knowledgeable than consultant neurologists. Finally, after 2 weeks staff called an ambulance one Friday night, prepared to send a vulnerable man to an A&E department miles from his home. We then put Dad in a fold-up wheelchair and drove him home. The staff allowed this to happen despite Dad being on a DOLs. Please avoid this home.

From the minute my mum arrived, she has been well taken care of and her interests considered. Staff have taken time to get to know my mum. They often have a joke with her and the other residents. It is nearly always a calm environment, and the staff are thoughtful and diligent. I completely trust the
team to put her health first, ensuring she has all her medication. I am always told if she is unwell and what course of action will be taken. I can't recommend them highly enough.

We were accommodated at short notice for a week's respite stay for our mum. She was quickly welcomed into the body of staff and introduced to fellow residents. Any incidents that occurred during her stay were reported to us immediately. The standard of care was very good and Mum developed a particular
bond with a certain member of staff who has been extremely attentive to Mum, but very understanding of our needs as we used this type of service for the first time. Would definitely recommend and will be reusing this service provided.

The staff are absolutely wonderful nothing requested is too much trouble and delivered

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.602)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.602) out of 10 for Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.602 for Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (254 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 334 Ratings = 4.602
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 registered maximum number of service users is 13.8, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I get great job satisfaction by being there to support residents and their families, and by also being supported by the team as we all strive to make a difference to all our residents - Adlington Manor is their home. I have settled in this role very well and love every aspect of working for Barchester. I hope this is my forever job.

Outside of work, I have one son and love spending time with him; he makes me so proud to be his mother. I also love going on holiday, reading, and walking.

Aderonke Mercy

Job Title: Registered Nurse Joined: 2022

My name is Aderonke Mercy, one of the registered Nurses in Adlington Manor. I have worked as a Nurse here in the home since 2022, and it has been fabulous.

In these years, I have been given the opportunity to provide care for residents as an individual, as the home is about respecting individual choices and supporting them to live happily.

The team at the home is made up of fabulous and passionate people who, over the years, have offered the support needed for me to transition and blend into a new environment, which is the utmost concern about moving to a new country away from home.

My time at Adlington so far has enabled me to witness and be a part of a tremendous contribution by the team towards the care of residents, and also the shared happy moments with both residents and their relatives.

The joy that comes with these tiny but life-changing events in the home shared by relatives has also been a great motivation to keep working and assisting residents while allowing them the freedom to be themselves.

I hope that I continue to impact lives in the home, providing care day after day and providing colleagues with the support required and that the residents have their faces lit up with a smile when they see me.

Job Title: Registered Nurse Joined: 2021

My name is Dyanne, and I am part of the Nursing team at Adlington Manor. I joined the team in December 2021, and it was absolutely the right choice for me.

I was born and raised in the Philippines. After I passed my nursing license exam, I worked in a business process outsourcing company for more than 5 years until I decided to practice my profession. I worked as a community nurse for 2 years and as an operating room nurse.

Joining the team at Adlington Manor helped build my confidence, and I met a lot of wonderful people who are lovely and fabulous. I did not know in myself that I could lead a team, and I am lucky to have very supportive management and colleagues.

More than this, I became more passionate about what I do and how important mental health is. Looking after the elderly people and making a positive difference in their lives has a different kind of fulfilment.
