Period of stay is nine months. Every effort is made to achieve a high standard. The major problem is they need to use agency workers. It is hard work trying to maintain standards when a chunk of the team does not have the level of commitment as your own employees. The management style is theory y rather
than theory x, so the permanent staff do go the extra mile when but is not guaranteed. Agencies should be forced to show the people they send have minimal training.
My stay has been enjoyable and comfortable. The staff have been supportive throughout. My thanks to all those who work there.

I'm so glad granny is here. The staff are all so kind and whenever I visit, they make me really welcome, however busy they are. The whole ethos of the Manor is led from the top down and is so professional. They combine love and care with clinical excellence, in a way which reassures me so much, as I
worry about granny and we have difficult decisions to make at this time of life. Thank you for being so open and available through all the ups and downs and for allowing our beloved dog to visit granny too. P.s On a lighter note, I love that the ladies and gentlemen can have a glass of wine and watch whatever they would like on the smart tv.
Reply from Fiona Gough, GM at Barchester Adlington Manor Care HomeThank you - it was lovely to see your wonderful pat dog and the joy that this brought to granny.

My mother needs an airflow mattress as she is prescribed one but nothing was put in place at the home.
Used underarm lifting instead of equipment.
She requested the commode and was told to "do it in your pad" and when they got the commode they put a bowl that she washes with on the floor underneath
instead of correct equipment.
Fluids were not promoted well.
Didn't give her the opportunity to her brush her teeth on multiple occasions.
Meals were extremely small (a sausage with 9 sugar cube-sized potatoes, served on a small dessert plate) and no choice in what she ate.
Deputy Manager said that her staff were unsure of what size plates to use at mealtimes.
One night she was offered a sandwich or a piece of cake, she chose cake and it was given to her from the carer's bare hand (good time to mention there was sickness/diarrhoea in the home and this was during Covid times), not on a plate or even a tissue. My mother was so hungry she wiped it with an antibacterial wipe and had to eat it.

All the staff were pleasant, helpful and efficient. The bedroom was clean and had ample space. Food was passable and the only comment I would like to make is the meals could have been better.

Nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful staff. I live 200 miles away and with all restrictions in place it has been hard to visit, it is wonderful to live so far away and have total peace of mind in knowing my mother is being cared for and treated so very well. Excellent in all aspects.

My father had two spells at Adlington for over four months with an admission to the hospital in-between. He became increasingly frail. Throughout, we were kept fully informed of his needs and situation. Every cue was given to him medically. It was clear the staff took time to know him, comfort and support
him when we couldn't due to Covid. We were able to speak with or Skype him, and carers would help. It was clear he was fond of the staff. We are grateful to all for making him as comfortable as possible.

Poor communication with mother, she was partially sighted and had dementia. First, she was in her own room with extremely poor reception so Skype calls were a nightmare. Then she was wheeled into the day room where other residents were, who were making a terrible racket. This meant Mum was not able
to concentrate to answer or make conversation.
As my mum passed away I collected her belongings but there were at least three items of clothing missing, to which I rang about and was told I would have a call back the following day, but that never happened. Also, I was shocked to see the state of her fingernails/hands. Over time as a patient there she obviously had had her hands in her nappy and they hadn't been washed properly as her fingernails were engrained with her own excrement.

There are no words to describe this care home, everyone is so caring to residents and families alike. Everyone is so friendly it's incredible, my father could not have been in a better place at the end of his life, and when he turned 100, everything was done to mark this incredible milestone. Thank
you to everybody who works so hard to care for residents and assist families to visit and care for their loved ones.

When my father first arrived at Adlington Manor, he exhibited challenging behaviour and was in decline. The staff were patient and responsive to his needs. During the Covid 19 lockdown, my Dad had a birthday. We couldn't see him, so I was delighted when I was sent a video of him being presented with
his favourite cake with candles on and having 'Happy Birthday' sung to him. He is settled, safe and very well cared for.

It's impossible to grade many of the categories here from the current experience as we haven't been able to visit during lockdown. However, when I saw my dear friend from the garden after nearly 5 months, she looked well and happy. Most of all, she looked loved by the staff around her. They have worked
so hard and I am grateful for their dedication in such difficult times.

After a 4 week spell in hospital, my father had lost a considerable amount of weight and was showing signs of confusion not previously experienced. He was discharged from hospital for intermediate care at Adlington Manor, with a view to building up his strength and general rehabilitation to ensure
he could return home safely.
On the day of his arrival, my Dad was very distressed and agitated, but the staff were kind and patient throughout a very difficult 'Covid' period of lockdown. After 3 weeks, my Dad was strong enough to return home. The staff were always courteous and kind with us as his family and arranged regular Skype calls with Dad as we couldn't visit.
In summary, the staff were an absolute credit to their profession and I would highly recommend Adlington Manor for any families looking for care facilities for loved ones.

My father entered the home directly from hospital eleven days ago so was only in the home for a very short time before he died last night. He had dementia and wasn't able to do anything for himself but was treated with respect and dignity during his short stay. Our family felt very comfortable coming
and going at any time and we got to know a few of the people that took charge of Dad's care.

Our relative received excellent care from diligent. Lovely staff. Initially, she was reluctant to leave her room and staff respecting her autonomy, did not force her but latterly, she was always out of her room when we visited.
Our relative told us she felt "very looked after and comfortable", "everyone
is very kind".
We saw staff interacting with residents in a friendly and encouraging manner. The home was well run and the manager was easily accessible and always willing to talk. She knew all the residents.

My mother's stay at Adlington was superb - the staff were absolutely first class and cared for her every need.

Food was also excellent.
Would definitely use for further respite care
if needed.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.602)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.602) out of 10 for Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.602 for Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (254 Excellents x 5) + (48 Goods x 4) + (17 Satisfactorys x 3) + (9 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 334 Ratings = 4.602
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Adlington Manor Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 registered maximum number of service users is 13.8, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Aderonke Mercy

Job Title: Registered Nurse Joined: 2022

My name is Aderonke Mercy, one of the registered Nurses in Adlington Manor. I have worked as a Nurse here in the home since 2022, and it has been fabulous.

In these years, I have been given the opportunity to provide care for residents as an individual, as the home is about respecting individual choices and supporting them to live happily.

The team at the home is made up of fabulous and passionate people who, over the years, have offered the support needed for me to transition and blend into a new environment, which is the utmost concern about moving to a new country away from home.

My time at Adlington so far has enabled me to witness and be a part of a tremendous contribution by the team towards the care of residents, and also the shared happy moments with both residents and their relatives.

The joy that comes with these tiny but life-changing events in the home shared by relatives has also been a great motivation to keep working and assisting residents while allowing them the freedom to be themselves.

I hope that I continue to impact lives in the home, providing care day after day and providing colleagues with the support required and that the residents have their faces lit up with a smile when they see me.

Job Title: Registered Nurse Joined: 2021

My name is Dyanne, and I am part of the Nursing team at Adlington Manor. I joined the team in December 2021, and it was absolutely the right choice for me.

I was born and raised in the Philippines. After I passed my nursing license exam, I worked in a business process outsourcing company for more than 5 years until I decided to practice my profession. I worked as a community nurse for 2 years and as an operating room nurse.

Joining the team at Adlington Manor helped build my confidence, and I met a lot of wonderful people who are lovely and fabulous. I did not know in myself that I could lead a team, and I am lucky to have very supportive management and colleagues.

More than this, I became more passionate about what I do and how important mental health is. Looking after the elderly people and making a positive difference in their lives has a different kind of fulfilment.
