My brother in law was a resident at Weston Park for 20 months and I visited him almost daily.
His nursing care during that time has been very good, right through from his arrival from hospital up to receiving palliative care for the last 3 weeks of his life.
The caring was sketchy during the first
half of his residence with poor management.
New management has been in place for the last year and there have been substantial improvements.
The home deserves a higher rating.

If there is a medal which can be given to such a truly magnificent team. Weston Park Care Home will be nominated for the highest achievement for such a wonderful, caring, devoted team which go beyond there abilities to keep my Dad and Papa comfortable in his last days.
My daughter and I cannot thank
you enough for the care and support which we received throughout our 10 days.
Three members of staff on the Weaver ward who stayed with me to the very end of Dads life.
You three are truly magnificent.
All our love forever.
Friends forever.

My Mother has been at Weston Park since January 2009 and during that time Weston Park has seen many changes, some good, some not so good. However, I have always been extremely impressed with the level of care and love that Mum has received. Yes, socks go missing, yes, she is sometimes in the wrong clothes
but the main thing for me is that she is beautifully cared for and I can have a wonderful time in the lounge visiting her. My thanks go to the staff and all the carers, you are doing a great job!

My wife had Alzheimer's disease and was only a resident at Weston Park for 6 weeks before she died. During the time that she lived at Weston Park, she received excellent care. The staff treated her with dignity and respect and always went the extra mile to ensure that she was comfortable, well fed and
safe. The staff also took excellent care of the family who visited every day. Staff demonstrated excellent values, I cannot thank them enough for the care they took of my wife.

We are extremely disappointed with the care our relative is receiving.

He is in the wrong unit in the home - he is in the dementia section and clearly, does not have dementia. We have mentioned this several times to staff and nothing appears to have been done.

My uncle reports that other residents

enter his room unchecked during the night, and I have witnessed this myself during an evening visit. A man wandered into the room (my relative is bed bound so unable to move) and no member of staff was aware.

Staff don't seem to care about the patients and some of the staff don't appear to have a good understanding of English - evident when I have asked for things.

We have asked for physio to get my uncle moving again and nothing appears to have been done.

Reply from Debbie Hardacre, Home Manager at Weston Park Care HomeThis gentleman was originally in a nursing placement, but disturbed behaviours required input from mental health nurses. This is constantly under review by the GP, the home and by other professionals involved in his care. Residents have freedom of movement within the unit and CCTV is in operation in all communal areas to monitor. Staff recruitment is ongoing and the home will continue to use agency staff to maintain safe staffing levels. A Physiotherapy referral was made by the GP as requested by the home shortly after admission.

I have been dismayed and appalled at the management of this so called care facility.
My biggest concerns have been,
-Lack of liaison between residents, family and medical staff.
-Poor hygiene for residents, only one bath/shower a week.
-Rarely able to contact anyone at the home, by phone or in
person.
-Very few meal choices offered.
-Insufficient staff to attend resident calls, particularly in an emergency.
Reply from D Hardacre, Home Manager at Weston Park Care HomeThe home has recently changed ownership and is undergoing changes in leadership of the unit where this person is residing. Residents are offered baths/showers on a daily basis but it is their choice if they wish to refrain. The person this refers to has full capacity and is able to request and refrain at any time. The home is fully staffed 24/7 according to identified dependency and occupancy of the home. There is a system on the telephone directing you to the relevant area or person you wish to speak to. Unfortunately, if calls are made during meal times and medication rounds there may be a delay in the response. the system is under review by the new owners.
Breakfast there are choices - hot or continental.
Lunch there are two choices of main but a further alternative is also available on request.
Evening meal is a choice of hot or cold. Menus are reviewed every six months and are also discussed at residents regular meetings.
All emergencies are dealt with by the staff and two nurses as appropriate. CCTV is now in the home in all communal areas and external areas, this can be reviewed by the manager and senior managers to up to seven days after.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.604)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.604) out of 10 for Weston Park Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.604 for Weston Park Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (197 Excellents x 5) + (76 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 293 Ratings = 4.604
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Weston Park Care Home is based on 22 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 103 registered maximum number of service users is 20.6, which has been reached with 22 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
