My nan has been at the care home for around 4 years, in this time we have been through alot with her, including a broken neck(she is a very lucjy lady), after that she mostly stayed in her room and didnt come out much, since kyle has joined the team, she is like a new woman, she always going down to the comunal areas and soend alot less time in her room, we have noticed a massive change in her mood she is much happier and feels more at home.
Thank you for your lovely review. We're so pleased to hear how much happier and more confident your nan has become, especially after such a difficult time. It's wonderful that Kyle's support has made such a difference. Your feedback means so much to the team.
My father did not want to live in a care home. It took him a while to settle down. With the kindness and patience from the staff on Coniston, my dad settled really well on here and he couldn't be happier. My dad describes Coniston as a 5* hotel. He loves the food and that there is anyways a cup of tea and biscuits at anytime of the day, carers (all of them), he appreciates the love and the kindness given as do I. He loves that he has been supported in making his room really his home with his belonging. He loves the environment and the surrounding countryside and there is nature on the door step. Staff encourage my dad to pursue his interest and discover new ones. Coniston staff are always encouraging the residents to live their best lives and as a family member I feel that I am welcome and that I have made myself at home.
We're really pleased to hear that your dad has settled so well at Coniston, and that he now feels at home, well cared for, and supported to enjoy life. It's also great to hear that he enjoys the food, the environment, and the little touches like tea and...
What an enjoyable experience. I've been treated with dignity at all times. I'd recommend it to anyone like me!
Thank you for your kind words. It's great to hear that you are happy at Callands.
My mum has been in the care home for over 12 months. She has settled well and is safe and well looked after. The staff work hard and care. There are niggles which could be improved - we have fed this back but improvements don't seem to happen, if this could happen it would make a massive difference.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and for trusting us with your mum's care over the past year. We are really pleased to hear she has settled well and that you feel she is safe and cared for, that's so important to us.
We are sorry to hear that some of the improvements you've raised haven't yet...
My brother has lived at Callands Care home for the past two years. He received a serious brain injury 20 years ago and has been all round the country in various homes / institutions and I have followed him. This was the first care home funnily enough he was in after his injury. ...and now thank goodness he is back. I visit regularly and love the staff and the relaxed atmosphere and always feel very welcomed. The main thing is I come away from my visits knowing my younger brother is in safe hands and in a caring safe environment, with members of staff on Conniston that go the extra mile and my brother is the happiest he has been in many years . I can not thank them enough for the care he has and how it's changed my life too knowing he is being looked after . Thank you all from carers to cleaners .
Thank you for your kind words. We're so pleased to hear that your brother feels safe, happy and well cared for at Callands. Your feedback means so much to our team.
Staff amazing and never stop, receptionist needed sat and Sunday, visitors wait ages for attention so many doors hv security and not fair to expect staff caring for patients to be messing about with all doors to reach front door to eventually let visitor in. Less staff as it is at the weekend and they should not be leaving residents to answer doors. Can't praise the staff enough in their care for the residents which is definitely not easy on grasmere floor.
Thank you for your feedback and kind words about our staff. We're so pleased you recognise their dedication and will also take on board your comments about visitors access to ensure we continue improving.
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to raise serious concerns regarding the care and treatment of my mother-in-law, [Her Full Name], who was admitted to Callands Care Home in late May 2025 following a hospital stay due to a broken right leg sustained in a fall. She was placed at Callands for assessment and support, with clear knowledge that she was a high fall risk.
Upon visiting regularly with my wife, we observed a series of unacceptable practices and apparent neglect that we feel compelled to report:
Inadequate Supervision & Unsafe Room PlacementDespite her known fall risk, she was placed in a far room (referred to us as "the furthest room") where there was little to no staff presence. As a result, she suffered multiple falls while under the care home's supervision. The repeated bruising on her body was visible and disturbing, yet we found no evidence that these incidents were being recorded or responded to appropriately.
CQC should pay a visit ASAP
I am sorry to read your review of your experience of our home. We have fully investigated your concerns. Every incident in our care home is thoroughly investigated and logged on our incident management system and we constantly review staffing rotas to ensure that there are adequate staff members to...
Suggestion - for those visiting frequently, and long term, have identity cards, similar to hospitals.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced delays when visiting, particularly at weekends. At times, our team may be attending to residents or supporting during mealtimes, which can occasionally cause a short wait at the door. We understand this...
The care Mum has received in the last 3 years has been excellent on Coniston/Windemere. All team members have been amazing and I myself have built up a good report. Nothing has been too much trouble. Out of all the homes I reviewed, this was the best one and really pleased I chose it. When Mum has been ill I was quickly notified and the care also shown to myself has really touched me. Thank you! Highly recommend. I will miss you all.
Thank you for your kind words. We are thrilled to hear the care your mum has received over the last 3 years has been excellent. Hearing that our team at Callands quickly notified you about your mums health and that you highly recommend our home means so much to us. Our team are always ensuring their residents receive the highest level of care.
The food is great the cleaning is excellent the carers nurses all staff have been exceptional! And she's never been so happy! - Mum's words.
The new manager is making a great impression and positive changes to the home. If I could give a higher rating I would.
Thank you for taking the time to write this review, I am very pleased to hear that your mother is being so well looked after. I have passed your positive comments on to the manager and her team. Thank you once again.
My dad has been in the home since September 2023. He is slowly but steadily declining which makes his care increasingly more complex. I am delighted with the level of care my dad receives. The staff are consistently jovial and very positive towards my father. Their professionalism is amazing. We cannot thank them enough for the difficult work they do, day in and day out.
Thank you very much for your kind comments and ratings, they are appreciated. Kind regards.
The staff were absolutely amazing and built a strong bond with Mum. It was a fun and positive atmosphere but still maintained professionalism at all times. At the end of Mum's life the staff were there for both her and us and for that we are eternally grateful. We couldn't ask for a better team of people to look after our precious mum.
Your thanks to the team are very much appreciated. Kind regards.
She was very settled and happy there. She was always treated with dignity and kindness. Her room big, spacious, homely, clean and tidy. Her personal care needs were always met. Medication was given on time and the food was good. The team would always find an alternative if needed.
As a family, we were always made welcome when we went to visit. The staff would answer any queries/concerns that we would have. They listened to our ideas and views in terms of Mum's care.
For me, it was the staff who made my mum's time there so enjoyable and settled. It felt like a big family. The atmosphere was positive and fun, but the staff were always professional.
At the end of Mum's life again the staff were there to offer support and care, not only for my mum, but also to us as a family. I cannot thank them enough for this.
Thank you very much for your ratings and very kind comments regarding the team at Callands Care Home. Everyone will be very appreciative. Kind regards.
Mother has been at Callands, on the Coniston unit for approximately 2 1/2 years. Initially, we were very pleased with the placement and the fact she was now receiving the care which her previous care home could not provide. When visiting, the staff are polite, respectful and friendly, but they are clearly run off their feet. There are just not enough of them, and the people who suffer are those they are caring for, as with any care home, no matter what the fees. There are items that will go missing like clothing and toiletries so one needs to keep an eye on these items. Anything more serious I would advise that you speak with management whom we found very approachable, and recently dealt with a few issues of ours quickly, and to our satisfaction. Since the recent CQC grading for Callands as a whole, I have seen a concerted effort by the organisation to improve things. In conclusion, a canopy over the front entrance would be welcome to protect visitors from the elements whilst waiting to gain entry and making contact with the relevant unit via the intercom.
Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We greatly appreciate your kind comments about our team and management who dealt with your concerns in a timely manner. Staffing is continually monitored via our dependency tool, and we can make...
I always felt welcome by the staff and they listened and answered my questions with sensitivity.
My parents were in the care system for 5 years and my advice to others entering the system is to work with the staff, they are your support, don't fret about clothes going missing, it doesn't matter. What matters is how they treat your parents/loved ones and my parents have been treated with the utmost respect and amazing care.
The staff have taught me much and I thank you from the bottom of my heart each and every one of you and for the support during my mum's 'good death', amen.
Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to write a review and ratings. The team will appreciate your recognition of their care and support. We are sorry that your review was not replied to before now, as we also wanted to send our sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. Kind regards.
Every time I visit, the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff is always really good. I can see my mum is very happy and well cared for.
Everywhere is clean and tidy.
The staff are very pleasant, kind and caring.
Activities/games are posted on a board for the residents.
Always a calm, warm atmosphere.
I have no concerns regarding the care given to my sister.
A big thank you to all the staff!
Excellent.
All very good. My wife moved to Callands in 2017 and has improved.
The staff are very supportive/professional. My mum has always been cared for and safe at Callands, every time I visit she is happy. I was shocked to see the CQC report in a local newspaper - with so many horrible comments - 99% of people couldn't do the job the staff do! She's always clean and the food's lovely. As is the activity lady who does my mum's nails. The staff and management didn't deserve to be plastered on social media.
Thank you for your review. We greatly appreciate your lovely comments on the care your mother receives at Callands. We value our staff team, who work hard to provide quality care, and we are disappointed with the inspection feedback. We will work in collaboration with all parties to ensure any...
