Old Gates Care Home

This review is for the team at Cherry House - I cannot thank the staff enough for the time my father had there. My father was diagnosed with dementia a couple of years ago, was in a care home in Birkenhead but in December '25 his dementia had gotten worse, and he needed a much more specialist care home. After searching and reviewing several homes we moved my dad to here in March '26 and apart from the settling in issues (which we would expect) the following 6 months were the best 6 months he could have had. The staff were caring, very understanding, clearly knew how to deal with dementia patients and they made my dad's time there brilliant. When we would come to visit, he was always saying how good the staff were, that he was comfortable, fed, he was at home and that they were his friends. You could see in the interactions between the staff and dad, that he was right. I have absolutely no complaints about anything to do with Cherry House and the team and highly recommend them.

The care staff are all very friendly and supportive to clients + visitors.

Since Kenneth has been here I have felt better knowing he is being well cared for. The staff are always kind and courteous to both Kenneth and whoever may be visiting him. Many times Kenneth has said they are all nice meaning the staff. If he has to be made not comfortable he may get angry but he always apologises. I try to help him with his lunch and he really enjoys it. He never refuses his food.

Mum was placed in an emergency situation and we couldn't be more thankful for the help and support we all received. The staff go above and beyond, and are all so kind and caring.

We will always be grateful for the kindness, dignity, compassion, and professionalism shown by all the staff. Their dedication made a difficult time much easier for our family, and I would highly recommend Old Gates Care Home to anyone seeking high-quality care for their loved ones-Thank you.

I have had a very, very bad and distressing experience with this care home, and there is far more to my experience than I can explain in a review. I would strongly advise anyone considering placing their loved one here to contact me before making that decision. I am willing to explain everything that happened to my mother and what I experienced over the years. You will be shocked to hear what I have to say, and I believe it is worthwhile listening to my experience before making such an important decision. If you genuinely care about the safety and wellbeing of your loved one, please contact me first and I will share my experience with you. I have also spoken to members of the public who told me they had similarly bad experiences and advised me to remove my mother from the care home. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this care home to anyone. I would give it zero stars if that were possible. Please be cautious before placing your loved one here.

I highly recommend the nursing home. The care staff have gone the extra mile to ensure my mums needs are met both from a physical health, and a cultural perspective - thank you all.

The care my dad has received whilst here is excellent. All the staff including management are so lovely with him. This is so good for my mum too she is also very happy with the care he is getting which puts her mind at rest. It was dad's birthday last week and all the staff came to his room and sang Happy Birthday to him and also gave him a birthday cake. This was lovely too.

The food is great. Nice people.

Excellent facilities, excellent staff no complaints only highest recommendation.

Helpful and caring staff. Very busy and work hard. Look after me very well, coped with my mental health state well. (Sorry for that) food is great! Staff are funny, can have a laugh with them. I wouldn't choose to live in a carehome, unfortunately I have no other choice at the moment. The staff are making my stay manageable and I thank them for that.

My auntie is happy with everything enjoys the food, loves to be social with every body is able to move around freely around the unit in her electric wheelchair. The unit is always very clean and smells lovely. The staff are friendly and no job is to small for them my auntie gets on well with everyone and is always laughing and chatting with someone. Very happy with everything.

Old Gates staff are excellent and if you need any help they are only glad to help.

Old Gates is a very good place and they look after people very well. The activity lady took us out and we had indoor and outdoor games.

The home I am in is very clean, good staff and the care and support is good, the staff are happy to help as much as they can.

The experience has been excellent, due to being in hospital then transferred here to Holly House, through the staff and seniors' support and help. I have some more independence again and they helped me get back on my feet again healthwise. Staff really friendly and helpful. Staff really easy going and no pressure, very patient. Going to really miss it here, going to be a wrench leaving as I have made a lot of friends with staff and service users.
