Parkside Care Home

The home is very nice.

Since the new manager arrived things have changed I'm happy to have my wife in this care home also the family. I would like to see my wife enjoy every day so would other families but they do their best if possible to fit you in. I like all the things they arrange for them, my family and I cleaned up the patio with flowers and brought them a bench and table. The spare garden needs a complete makeover.

My father became a resident here during lockdown so we were unable to have a look around the home and facilities. In the short time he’s been there, there have been issues with basic care needs (lack of). Accident within the home resulting in spending all night in A&E unescorted and with dementia. He was totally bewildered by it all by the time I arrived there, after finding out at 7 am the next morning. You would think for £600+ a week in fees the proprietors would be able to pay one extra junior carer for night duty for such occurrences. They have a duty of care to residents, how can a patient with dementia answer questions in A&E alone? He’s diabetic and the home didn’t send any medication with him either. We sent plenty of (decent) clothes in with him which they didn’t mark name with any permanent marker (just a biro) which will of course wash out. We have yet to see him in a pair of his trouser, they checked the laundry room (not there apparently). More interested in singalongs than care.

My husband spent six months at Parkside, he had dementia. He was okay for the first couple of weeks but then we noticed he was unshaven and had the same clothes on all the time sometimes no underwear on. The staff kept saying he was refusing to get changed or washed so we suggested my daughter went in to do personal care. The manager was against this but agreed. We had no problem getting him to have showers at all but the staff were just leaving it then for us. He did not seem happy at all there so we moved him and the new place has had no problem with him getting ready for bed, getting washed and is happy now. Some of the staff there could do with more training. I would not recommend this place as I feel my husband was neglected. There is a lot more I could but would need to write a book.

Things started off great, looking well-kept, Dad seemed to be happy then due to lockdown in December I wasn’t allowed to see him through the window so I spoke to Dad over the phone and asked staff how he was, which they said he was fine. Then a few things started to change when the restrictions started to lift. Dad's behaviour was changing, had a few issues with one or two residents which they did inform us. Then as I was starting to visit Dad more, noticed Dad was very unkempt and in the same clothes for weeks. Asked why and they said he was refusing personal care. I thought it was a bit strange as at first, they had no problems with dad. It went on for a while, so I asked if I could be his honorary carer where I was going in twice a week to do personal care, in the meantime, they would try to get him showered and changed but never happened. All his clothes went missing. So upsetting to leave him there.

The difference in Mum since moving into Parkside has been great to see. She is happy, relaxed and has settled in so well, even though she never wanted to "go into a home" and had a bad experience elsewhere. It's lovely to see Mum returning to more of her old self. Although suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia I have no concerns that she is being totally cared for and I don't have to worry about her living on her own anymore. She has care, companionship and can join in with activities or not as the mood takes her. I would recommend Parkside to anyone, the culture and environment is inspiring, very much led from the top, as he is a really positive and friendly Manager.

This care home is very food, and I would recommend it to others. Everyone is well cared for. The manager is always there to help in any way he can. At the time, this survey was completed, there wasn't anyone doing activities, but they did have a fantastic guy doing it before the Coronavirus.

From day one, Parkside staff have been amazing, caring and compassion. My step-father always said he would never go in a home and yet he has settled so well and it is all due to the staff. I would definitely recommend Parkside care home.

Mum has been in this home for two years now and is as happy as she can be. The carers understand mum and care for her as well as we could. Also, the cleaners are so kind and caring and go that extra mile.

Could not have wished for such a wonderful home. The staff are all amazing, they have given dad such a lovely home and us as family peace of mind knowing he was safe, well looked after. They have treated him with respect and dignity and kept us well informed of our dad. All we can say is thank you to the manager and all care staff for taking such good care of my dad. Highly recommend them.

Caring, friendly staff who have always seen my mum as a person, regarding of her severe dementia. Always do their best.

The staff are always friendly, caring and helpful. The fabric of the home is in good condition and constantly being updated and repaired to a good standard. All staff show total dedication to the users of the home. The food is always fresh and appetising and families of users of the home are welcomed to the home at any time, even when arriving without notice.
