Overall Experience

The standard of care is excellent. Staff are very friendly and supportive and seem happy to work there. The atmosphere is open and welcoming. There are regular resident/family meetings with written feedback on any comments or issues raised. Staff were very helpful to me when assisting my mum to settle and keep me well informed if she has any issues.

A very clean, well furnished and nicely decorated home in quiet and pleasant surroundings. Staff are very caring and pleasant to residents and visitors alike. I have no worries or concerns about my mother's health and well-being - I have every confidence that she is being well looked after and cared for. She has been a resident now for just over 12 months and it has given her a new lease of life.

The Laurels is a comfortable home with a light lounge in the conservatory with a cosy feel and very relaxing for residents. The quiet lounge is ideal when family visit and don't want to sit in the resident's room. The staff are friendly and very attentive and care for all residents needs and build up a good relationship with the family. The food and choice is very good and every diet catered for. Always assured that the family member is cared for and all medical needs addressed. Would highly recommend.

My wife was admitted in August 2018 due to the closure of her previous home. She settled well, she is happy, clean and comfortable in general.

We have no issues with her day to day care. My family and I visit most days and are always happy with my wife's well being.

Our mother has been a resident in The Laurels since early August 2018. Having spent a nightmare 10 months in various hospitals she is now settled and happy. The staff are very friendly and caring. Mum has a great relationship with all the staff who care for her. The manager appears very willing to update us on any issues regarding mum, whatever medical or day to day social requirements. They have been very supportive even when we had problems regarding her long term funding. The accommodation is clean, well run and the nursing home appears to include lots of daily activities for the residents as a family we are very pleased we chose The Laurels. Thank you.

Overall Experience

My uncle went in to the nursing home for end of life care and although he was only there for 3 weeks and 2 days, the manager and staff were extremely professional, friendly, caring and helpful. The communication and standard of care was excellent. Sadly my uncle passed away in there but it was a peaceful and pain-free passing and the care and nursing staff not only supported my uncle through this difficult time but were very caring with me and my husband, who were with him at the end of his life.

I live out of town therefore when the hospital consultant made the decision to fast-track my uncle to a nursing home, the decision to which home was made by the discharge team and I believe they made an excellent choice to suit his complex medical needs. As a family, we feel quite relieved he didn't go home, therefore there wasn't any risk of him dying alone. We wholeheartedly thank everyone for treating my uncle with the dignity he deserved. Many thanks!

I am very happy with the care my mum receives at The Laurels. The staff and management give all the support needed. This could be anything from care needs to service suppliers.

I continue to have one concern; the laundry. Items go. Some return on time, some are late and some are never to be seen again eg Mum's hankies, albeit all labelled. If there were designated laundry staff, these issues could be directed straight to them. At resent, all staff are dealing with laundry.

Reply from Andrew Savage, Managing Director at The Laurels Care Home

We would like to thank Mrs McKenning for her kind comments and assure her that we will be reviewing our laundry services, with the view of setting on dedicated laundry staff.

I find some of these categories difficult to answer as the present management has only been in place approximately four weeks.
If possible another quiet smaller sitting room would be advantageous for residents who have smaller rooms and limited outlook (without TV).

These comments refer to the residential side of this home (not the nursing side).
