My mother was admitted after a sudden medical complication, thus giving me no alternative to having been able to visit other care homes first. How glad I very soon became. All the staff were very welcoming. I, too, was welcomed and cared for, being assured that it was my mother's home now and I should
be a part of it. She was always clean, warm, happy and contented. There was always someone coming to talk to her and ask if she needed anything. It was obvious she was safe and settled. I can't praise the staff, the home and the procedures enough. They are outstanding. I would definitely recommend them to others.

I, first of all, would like to say this is a nice care home. I think that one of the reasons for this is because most of the carers are really caring people but I do think at times it is understaffed. For instance, it is stated my husband does need two carers to meet his needs. I come nearly every day
and this is one of the things I have noticed apart from this I do really appreciate the staff.

First impressions, the place is clean. All of the staff are stars. Nothing is too much trouble. My mum settled in very quickly. Her mood and general health seem to have improved. Every time I visit, they are cleaning the place. We definitely chose the right home.

Mum has been at Broom Lane Oakwood Suite (EMI) for just over 11 weeks now and I am as happy with it today as I was from the day she moved in. The staff are so caring that it makes more difference to mum's wellbeing than I could ever have imagined. Care means care here - it is not just about ensuring
residents are ‘fed and watered’! Mum responds really well to them. Their skills and understanding of her dementia mean they are able to persuade her to let them help her with personal care despite her desperate desire to be independent and where the previous home she was in only generated aggression and distress in her in this respect.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.517)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.517) out of 10 for Broom Lane Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.417 for Broom Lane Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.417
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.1 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Broom Lane Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.5
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
