Recently moved Mum to Steeton Court as her needs were not being met in residential care. Felt very anxious about the move, but the manager and her team could not have been more helpful and supportive. Mum has been there since August 2021, and as a family, we feel reassured and confident that Mum is being well cared for. Really pleased that Mum is encouraged to be involved in everything going on, and so good to see her in the communal areas, as opposed to her room. Thank you to everyone for looking after her.

This care home provides exemplary care!

Residents are treated with respect, and their dignity is maintained at all times. Whilst they are able to enjoy the leisure facilities provided by the home, there is entertainment and a variety of activities. When they need more care and nursing, they are always kept scrupulously clean, comfortable and tenderly cared for in their own pleasantly furnished room. I have nothing but praise, admiration and gratitude for the high standard of care my aunt received, and I know that her time spent at the home was as happy and enjoyable as anyone could wish. The end of life care she received was exemplary, and I know how much she appreciated the love and care she received from the dedicated staff of Steeton Court Nursing Home; thank you to everyone!

Steeton Court is a comfortable, beautify presented, safe and caring environment. The manager and all the staff are professional, approachable and very friendly. Lots of smiles, laughter and real affection are making my mum’s life at Steeton Court a really positive experience.

Mum’s room is a good size, and is nicely decorated; we were encouraged to make it a familiar, comfortable personal space, lots of photos on the walls. Mum’s personal possessions and ornaments and some of her own furniture. The resident lounges and dining rooms are light, attractive spaces with beautiful views over the gardens and woodland.

The approach is completely resident centred. There’s plenty going on, and detailed care plans are developed in discussion with relatives. I can’t thank everyone at Steeton Court enough for keeping Mum safe and well and giving our family complete peace of mind.

My mother came to Steeton Court for end of life care after suffering a bad fall and advanced dementia.

That was three months ago. Thanks to the dedicated nursing staff and the superb care she has received from everybody who works there, not only is she alive and well, but enjoying a quality of life we never thought possible. Everything at this home is about the residents, meeting their needs with efficiency, compassion, good humour and lots of love. Nothing is too much trouble, I will never be able to thank them all for everything they have, and continue to do for us.

Mum has been in Steeton Court for approximately two months and has settled in well. Management facilitated a smooth transition from a local rehabilitation centre. We were given a detailed description of all aspects of care that Mum would receive, eg her 'new' general practitioner, meals, daily activities etc. Steeton Court has provided a 'visitors pod', which has proved invaluable during this pandemic!

The home is very well run by the manager and her team, and there have been significant improvements over the last year. Communication is very good, and we are always kept up to date with everything.

We are very happy with Mum's care, and would not hesitate to recommend it.

My father in law is happy in Steeton Court, his needs are taken care of with love from staff quite often going the extra mile to keep him entertained during this time of no visitors. His health is deteriorating and staff bend over backwards to ensure he is comfortable, amending medication and generally keeping on top of things.

In the last 12-months, since the appointment of a new manager - Steeton Court has been transformed. The manager has a clear vision and has worked tirelessly to achieve it. She has the skills to bring all the staff onside, and there is now a great team spirit. Mum is safe, happy, comfortable and well cared for - what more can I ask. I am proud to be associated with the Steeton Court community.

My mother has been in Steeton Court for almost two years. She regards it as her home and is comfortable and content. The management and staff are very caring and Mum appears to have formed a genuine relationship with them. My mother enjoys the activities provided; the staff put a tremendous effort into providing stimulating and topical events. I am extremely satisfied with the level of care Mum receives and would have no hesitation in recommending this provider to family and friends.

My husband was in very poor health when he was discharged from the hospital to Steeton Court; we thought he would not last more than a couple of months. Just as soon as he arrived, he received the most amazing care from all the people who work at Steeton Court; their dedication has to be seen to be believed! He has blossomed since his arrival, he had gained weight and is so happy! We are looking forward now to a bright, happy future.

Philippa Young
Philippa YoungJob Title:Operations ManagerJoined: 2019

I have worked across the group of homes since December 2019.

I am a qualified Mental Health Nurse, having completed my Nursing Degree in Wales. I have a range of experience working initially in specialist mental health services, domiciliary care/supported living and specialist learning disability services before moving across to the aged care sector and palliative care. I have experience in Home Management, Senior Operations Management, and Quality and Compliance roles.

I am extremely passionate about high-quality, kind, person-led care and ensuring that we go the extra mile for people living in our care homes, never forgetting that the little things are often the big things.

I am also motivated to ensure that we have well-supported and valued staff teams who have the opportunity to develop and have a great working environment where wellbeing is a strong focus and staff feel listened to.

I have experience of dementia both from a personal and professional perspective, so I do have an understanding of the journey relatives also experience.

I am a qualified Dementia Care Mapper and have worked on the King's Fund Dementia projects. I also sit as a judge in the National Great British Care Awards.

In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and going on days out together or going for a cup of Earl Grey and a piece of cake somewhere scenic. I can quite often be found in the Lake District; it has become my second home, and my little sausage dog loves it too.

Samantha TaylerJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2021

Hi, my name is Samantha, I am the Deputy Manager at Steeton Court.

I joined Spellman Care in 2021. I obtained my BSc Hons in Adult Nursing at Ulster University in 2011 as a mature student. My career in nursing has focused on Elderly Care, especially Palliative Care.

I enjoy working at Steeton Court; we have a great team throughout the home, and I love seeing residents smile and enjoy their time with us. It is very rewarding knowing that we, as a team, make a difference to our residents.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, playing hockey and visiting places of interest (and no, not the pub)! I have been camping all over the UK, Ireland and parts of Europe.
