Overall Experience
As an MND patient, well catered for. From the moment I entered the care home I was greeted with a warm smile and kind words by every member of staff I met. Nurses, cleaners, carers, helpers administrators and managers showed consideration for my emotional as well as physical needs. I was so impressed at their hard work, often in difficult circumstances with patients in distress, when situations were dealt with calmly and gently whilst teams were multitasking in a professional manner.
After it was established with a short escorted trip that I could safely use my electric chair outside, I appreciated the fact that I was treated with dignity and allowed to leave the home at will and go into the village.
Above all I would like to emphasise the way all staff found the time to talk to me in such a warm friendly manner whilst they were working so hard.

Kind people, from Yorkshire, Ukraine India, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Poland . I am grateful that such diverse nationals are able to work for us

My wife, Carol, was admitted to Scorton Care Village at the beginning of May 2026 on the NHS fast track programme. From the outset, the nursing care she received was of an outstanding quality. All members of staff treated Carol with compassion and ensured her dignity was preserved.

I was given a great deal of support, as were our children, during the weeks leading to her death on the morning of May 27th. I was able to witness the level of care at all times of the day and night, as the leadership provided a bed near Carol during her final few days.

To give some context to this review I think that it is important to understand my wife's situation. She has Alzheimer's is bedbound with very limited movement, speech and understanding. Essentially all her care needs have to be met. Without exception I have never had any worry or cause for complaint. The staff are always friendly and helpful. There is an air of calm about the place, it is exceptionally clean from the building to the bedding and there are never any unpleasant of odors. I would always recommend Scorton to anyone looking for this type of accommodation. I would like to say a big, thank you, to all the staff for their help and understanding not only from my wife but myself also.

In the year my beloved husband lived in this home he always received the most wonderful care, kindness and support. They not only looked after my husband but me also. The end of life care given to him in his last four days was exceptional. I am so very grateful that it was this home in which he went to live. I can never thank them enough.

Knowing that my husband is in such a safe, clean and supportive environment means the world to our family. The home itself is always spotless and very well maintained. The food is also excellent quality, with a good choice and clearly prepared with care. The best thing about the care home are the staff they genuinely care and can't do enough for my husband and myself when visiting they treat everyone with such respect. We're are so grateful for the wonderful team there and would highly recommend this care home to anyone looking for quality care for a loved one.

My mum has been a resident at Scorton in Elizabeth House for a few months now, and whilst this is never an easy transition, the care and support she has received from the staff there has been outstanding.
The management team work really well with us as families to understand her needs and the nursing and care staff have been really good. Her specific dietary requirements have been changed and worked with over this period to give her both the nutrition she needs and also the types of food she prefers.

As a family we are really grateful to the team at Scorton for the care provided.

My friend has been a patient at Scorton for the past 10 years due to Alzheimer's disease. During that time, she experienced excellent care and friendship from all ranks of the staff, attention of her needs as she became iller was superb. She died in November. My situation as carer and ex house mate was also under their remit, which made my weekly visits so much nicer. I thank all the staff for everything.

It would be better if Mam had a bit more interaction and stimulation, she is often sat in front of a TV she can't really see or hear. On occasion we have had mixed messages to different members of the family.

Mum was in Scorton Care Village for 2 weeks respite. Mum thoroughly enjoyed her time in Scorton. The staff were very understanding and caring. The daily entertainment was brilliant. They encouraged mum to join in with several activity, some she'd not done for years! All round brilliant experience and would definitely recommend to others. If mum needs to go somewhere full time we would be more than happy for her to to Scorton.

Alina Bacoanu
Alina BacoanuJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2014

I moved to the UK after living in Italy, during which time I completed further education to a high standard, working in a senior role. My first role upon arriving here in the UK was as a Care Assistant at Scorton Care Village, North Yorkshire. This position gave me an insight into social care, and I quickly made many connections within the area on a personal and professional level. My existing skills, knowledge, and experience gave me the opportunity to advance my career by seeking more challenging roles, including Unit Manager and Deputy Manager, before assuming my current position as the Registered Home Manager. During the past few years, I have implemented many changes within the service, achieving an overall “Good” from CQC and raising the profile of the home.

I consider myself to be fair, firm, honest, and committed to my role. I take pride in my work and am resolute when it comes to my responsibilities and accountabilities towards the service, residents, and staff. I am dedicated to ensuring that residents and staff receive the best support at Scorton Care Village and that I continue to make a difference.
