I would belatedly post this review in relation to my mother's time in the Archery Bower House in Scorton Care Home.
She was a resident in Scorton for two years and eight months until she passed away, and during that time, we found the facilities and the staff to be excellent.
She had a lovely room,
was generally happy with the food and only spoke well of all the staff.
From a family member's perspective, it was a comfort for us that she was content and well looked after, and I found the staff to be excellent, very friendly and approachable.
Reply from Sharon Adjei, Ops/Clinical Director at Scorton Care VillageThank you for the kind words. Your mother was a wonderful lady, and the staff team were very sad about her passing.

My partner was in Elizabeth House for almost a year, five days short. The staff go above and beyond their duties. All staff are very friendly with a lovely, welcoming smile. Housekeeping keeps the facility spotless. My partner felt very comfortable there and called it his home. He passed away in August
in Elizabeth House, and the dignity he was given goes beyond words. To the manager - you have fantastic staff - feel proud.

The staff have been so kind and helpful with my parents, showing much respect to them, and always giving them the time to talk. They have been very helpful to myself and my brother, listening to our concerns and dealing as appropriate. My only criticism would be that not enough info is given at the
beginning of the residency, i.e. money for things and naming clothes, but these are minor issues so easily fixable.

A very well-run home with friendly and professional staff. Clean and spacious areas, but with a real homely atmosphere. High standards are obvious but with a lot of room for informality. Residents cared for but without constant interventions.

Dad came to you in 2018 in an emergency when Mum was rushed to hospital. Two months later, Mum came out of the hospital and stayed with Dad in a double room for her recuperation. We made the difficult decision about their futures. Dad remained at Scorton Care Village, and Mum returned home. Dad’s dementia
continued to deteriorate, and sadly he died this year.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of the staff of Scorton Care Village for the wonderful care you gave Dad during his stay. The commitment you show to your residents is truly outstanding and is much appreciated by all of the family.
Also, we would like to thank you for the care you have given to us as a family. This ranges from a cup of tea and a chat when we visited, sending photos of Dad on Christmas Day (when we couldn’t visit due to Covid), allowing us all, children and grandchildren, to sit around a table to celebrate his birthday, baking him a birthday cake and giving Mum flowers on their 39th Wedding Anniversary.

My mother was very unhappy here for many many reasons. Luckily as she was of sound mind was able to discharge herself. The terms and conditions of leaving a review stop me from saying what I'd like to say. Sadly my mother has now passed away aged 64 so I will leave it to the imagination but I certainly
can't leave a good review.
Reply from Sharon Adjei, Nominated Individual at Scorton Care VillageThe team would like to pass on our sincere condolences for your loss.

We are sorry to hear that you feel compelled to write a negative review following the support we feel was given. As always we understand the sadness when someone comes into our service when relatives feel this is not to their liking. On this occasion, we had a different aspect of the care, support, dignity and respect provided not only by the staff here but also by the external people who were part of this support from the receiver of the care. All staff worked tirelessly to ensure that a discharge to home was able to happen for the benefit of the resident/family.

The first time I had the chance to visit my Mum, who has chronic mental health after restrictions were lifted, she told me how much happier she was than her previous home and how lovely the staff were and that their professional/considerate/compassionate support with daily activities helps her achieve
a life quality that results in such increased overall positive mood. Given by nature my mum is a very sensitive, thoughtful and compassionate person together with the embellishment of such traits that typically come from the experience of chronic mental health; this is high praise indeed!
Reply from Sharon Adjei, Ops/Clinical Director at Scorton Care VillageThank you for this review. I will pass on this to the staff and management team, who will be pleased that their hard work is very much noted!

My mum has been in Scorton house for about 4-years. I can remember the day we had to come to terms with knowing we could not give my mum the full care she needed at home! The day we left my mum was the hardest of our lives! I cried and felt so much guilt, but I can honestly say with a hand on my heart
that the care staff are outstanding, and they helped me every visit! They are actually like family! During Covid was awful, I did not get to see Mum for about a year, and it was soul-destroying, but the staff made the right call. A decision had to be made as Mum can not swallow, so foods had to be soft, she needs change all the time, but we make the decisions together. They love my mum so much, and I trust them with my heart, and as a daughter, that’s all I need, my mum to be safe, clean and content as much as she can be. They greet me with a smile no matter how hard their shift is. I personally would like to say thank you.

Mum has been in Scorton Care Village for 3-months now. We were all very anxious when she moved in, thankfully, we were worried for nothing. I would recommend this home to everyone. The manager and staff are fantastic. We always feel so welcome when we visit. Covid19 has had such an impact on us all,
the home follows guidelines, and we receive monthly updates by email, which is good. The best outcome is Mum has come on leaps and bounds since moving into Scorton Care Village; she has put on weight, become more confident and is the happiest I have seen her in months.

Thank you to all the staff at Elizabeth House for their continued hard work. Keeping relatives informed and allowing us to visit as soon as we were allowed, with efficient testing and a warm welcome has been so appreciated. Supporting my Dad to have Zoom calls has kept him going during the pandemic,
and his needs are met with very high standards of professional practice and kindness. I feel reassured that he's in such good hands.

The home is looking after my husband in a caring and efficient manner. His mobility and speech have improved since he became a resident, and his challenging behaviour is managed well. Although visiting is restricted because of Covid regulations, the staff make sure that my visits are pleasant for both

My husband with late-stage Alzheimers was admitted to Sycamore Unit during the lockdown. Not an easy time for me as I wasn't able to settle him in myself or look around the home. However, the staff have been very generous with their time, answering my questions with patience and never appearing too
busy to talk to me about him. Fortunately, he settled down much quicker than I expected, probably because the staff are so well trained and really understand his needs. The impression I have gained over the last 6-months is of caring staff, who I would like to take the opportunity to thank. I was really lucky to visit him this week (cheered me up), and he told me he is happy, which is all I can ask at this stage of his illness; I actually saw his old sense of humour a couple of times. The visit was really well organised, and I really appreciate all the extra work it caused. It was nice for me to meet two of the staff, and I now know what their eyes and hair look like! I look forward to visiting!

My husband moved into Scorton Care Village after the home that he was in was taken over by a care home that did not provide the nursing care that my husband needs. Since being at Scorton his condition has improved so much that he is now able to walk a short distance without aid and his delirium and
seizures have decreased greatly. The care given to him by the nursing staff and carers is excellent and his whole wellbeing has improved beyond belief. The only slight downside is the lack of activities provided, I realise the recent pandemic put a stop to outside visits but perhaps a little more music and singing would be a good thing. At the moment he is in unable to watch the television in his own room due to a very bad signal and no WiFi. This, however, is no fault of the home.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Scorton for their hard work in keeping everyone safe during this very trying time and for looking after my husband so well.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.676)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.676) out of 10 for Scorton Care Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 41 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.676 for Scorton Care Village is calculated as follows: ( (351 Excellents x 5) + (100 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 475 Ratings = 4.676
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Scorton Care Village is based on 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 114 registered maximum number of service users is 22.8, which has been reached with 41 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

I moved to the UK after living in Italy, during which time I completed further education to a high standard, working in a senior role. My first role upon arriving here in the UK was as a Care Assistant at Scorton Care Village, North Yorkshire. This position gave me an insight into social care, and I quickly made many connections within the area on a personal and professional level. My existing skills, knowledge, and experience gave me the opportunity to advance my career by seeking more challenging roles, including Unit Manager and Deputy Manager, before assuming my current position as the Registered Home Manager. During the past few years, I have implemented many changes within the service, achieving an overall “Good” from CQC and raising the profile of the home.

I consider myself to be fair, firm, honest, and committed to my role. I take pride in my work and am resolute when it comes to my responsibilities and accountabilities towards the service, residents, and staff. I am dedicated to ensuring that residents and staff receive the best support at Scorton Care Village and that I continue to make a difference.
