My husband is being well looked after, in a lovely room with his own mementoes around him. He is being kept clean and dressed and his health matters are attended to. Occasionally staff have problems with understanding instructions due to the language barriers, therefore, arrangments are not carried out.

Reply from Sharon Adjei, Ops/Clinical Director at Scorton Care Village

We have a diverse staff team and welcome any issues visitors/relatives may have if they feel we have missed any instructions. Please feel free to contact us with any misunderstandings you encounter, so that we are able to address these. or offer additional support/training to our staff team.

Overall Experience

I have been coming here to visit my friend for couple of years. My oldest friend works for CQC as does my relative so I am aware of things to be aware of. So I do have a tendency to observe my surroundings. Also having qualifications in MH. It allows me to watch interactions with staff to residents. I have found the part of the home I visit to be very clean and tidy. Hand sanitiser where you sign in. Plenty of information on notice board. I don't have much engagement with staff. As I go straight to my friend's room... but found the one staff member who will happily chat to be very pleasant. I have seen some staff sit and chat to residents. My friend who is bedbound is always clean and has clean bedding on. I was there a day when a cleaner was mopping the floor and it smelt lovely. Well done to hard-working cleaners who work hard to provide a nice clean environment. And of course to carers it is not an easy job. That I know. So you are appreciated.

The staff were friendly, helpful and professional and took excellent care of my father. He was always well looked after, clean and dressed. He wouldn't leave his room but they chatted to him and checked if he needed anything. At the end, they were very caring and kept us informed of what was happening.

Scorton Care Village continues to provide excellent care for my husband. I know he is safe, exceptionally well looked after and happy. I am confident if a health issue arises, it will be dealt with swiftly and successfully. All staff are friendly, kind, caring and always willing to talk about my husband and also offer me support if I am feeling low. I cannot wish for a better place for my husband to be living, nor can I find enough words to praise the wonderful staff.

The resident's resistance to basic hygiene has been a significant part of managing his dementia. The staff have been brilliant at looking after him, making sure he is washed and changed and his room cleaned as required. Regular shaving has recently been introduced which was unimaginable for us. It is so good to see him looking so much better even though his dementia continues to progress. Scorton have given him back his dignity.

My husband has been in Scorton Care Village for about eight months now and in that time has been treated very well by all staff. This has made what could have been horrendous for us as a family a bearable time because his carers treat us very well too and it enables us to have precious family time together in a pleasant atmosphere.

My aunt has been at Elizabeth House for the last 11 month and she loves it! All the staff are so friendly and make my aunt feel at home by treating her with respect and adhering to her individual needs. She is so relaxed here and enjoys the activities she takes part in and all interactions with staff - especially with the therapy dog.

As her family, I'm so pleased to see how settled, happy and content she is. The staff are brilliant, approachable, caring and are great at keeping me updated on any changes with my aunt. It's a weight off my mind knowing my aunt is safe, happy, well fed and has tea/coffee on tap!

My wife has been a resident of Elizabeth House for nearly 7 years and her care needs have changed over the years. The staff have been brilliant and fully understand her changing needs and I would have no problem recommending them to anyone. My wife's Dementia (FTD) is certainly quite advanced and the staff are able to give me updates as and when they see changes which does put my mind at rest.

My mother has Alzheimer's Disease, which has progressed to a stage where she is unable to walk, is very sleepy and cannot carry out any day-to-day activities or do anything for herself. I usually visit twice a week, and when I visit, she now tends to communicate by nodding or shaking her head and has her eyes closed. However, most of the time, she is asleep. I am unable to comment about activities in the home, it has been some time since activities were being done during a visit, but there are games etc, on shelves in the lounge, which I'm sure are used. Overall, I would say the care home is good, the staff are friendly and cheerful, and I feel this is a really important aspect of the care provided. I think Mum enjoys the food, she has a good appetite, and her weight appears to be stable. If Mum has any problem, I'm sure I would be contacted.

Scorton Care Village was very supportive, kind and helpful in caring for my father-in-law. It was a difficult time for the family, especially my mother-in-law, and every time we visited, we were welcomed by all, kept updated on care regularly and treated so kindly. The care my late father-in-law received was wonderful. He was always spotlessly clean and treated with empathy and dignity. They helped to make a difficult situation bearable - thank you.

Dad has been in Scorton since January 23. He has settled in very well, and the staff treat him with dignity and respect. The rooms are bright and airy, and personal possessions are allowed, which is important to him. The staff and admin are brilliant, and nothing is too much trouble for them. The home and room are very clean at all times. The entrance is inviting, especially upstairs. The only thing I would say is a tea/coffee machine for the visitors would be good, although talking to admin, they said just ask in the ward if we can make a drink; we would be happy to pay.
Also, it would be nice if maybe once a week or fortnite, there could be a quick meeting with a nurse and carer to update us on Dad and how he is doing, what meds he is on if there is a change in him and if there is anything we can do to help him/them.

His personal care is also very good, and he is always clean-shaven and in clean clothing. Excellent overall.

Thank you for taking the time with your review. We encourage all residents to bring in personal possessions which can make their personal space special to them. We have taken on board your suggestion of providing a coffee/tea-making space for visitors to use when staff are unavailable to help with this hospitality. Lots of improvements taking place around the home, and there appear to be higher levels of staffing which is good too.
On my visits, my friends appear to be well looked after. He is, unfortunately, mostly confined to his bed nowadays, but says he is "ok" and does sleep a lot.
I have found the staff always helpful, especially the ladies in the office, if I have any queries.

I feel confident that my friend is receiving good quality care and have no concerns at this moment in time.

Alina BacoanuJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2014

I moved to the UK after living in Italy, during which time I completed further education to a high standard, working in a senior role. My first role upon arriving here in the UK was as a Care Assistant at Scorton Care Village, North Yorkshire. This position gave me an insight into social care, and I quickly made many connections within the area on a personal and professional level. My existing skills, knowledge, and experience gave me the opportunity to advance my career by seeking more challenging roles, including Unit Manager and Deputy Manager, before assuming my current position as the Registered Home Manager. During the past few years, I have implemented many changes within the service, achieving an overall “Good” from CQC and raising the profile of the home.

I consider myself to be fair, firm, honest, and committed to my role. I take pride in my work and am resolute when it comes to my responsibilities and accountabilities towards the service, residents, and staff. I am dedicated to ensuring that residents and staff receive the best support at Scorton Care Village and that I continue to make a difference.
