My father was admitted to Scorton Care Village in December 2024 and by his own admission it now feels like home. The staff treat him with dignity and respect and it is wonderful that he now feels safe.
His room is bright and airy and he is surrounded by his personal belongings. Friends and family
that visit all feel that it is one of the nicest and most welcoming care facilities they have been in.
We are extremely grateful for how all the staff treat him and us. We are all made to feel very welcome and they have made what is obviously a difficult situation feel totally bearable.
We are indebted to all of them and cannot thank them enough.
Reply from Sharon Adjei, Ops/Clinical Director at Scorton Care VillageWe are really pleased that your father feels that he can call Scorton Care Village his home! Thank you for your kind words/review.

Satisfied with my husbands care. It would be good if a little more activities. I do realise its difficult to engage for long periods though. Maybe stop him shredding his trainers.
Reply from Sharon Adjei, Ops/Clinical Director at Scorton Care VillageThank you for your review. Our activities staff encourage all residents to partake in activities which they enjoy, but this is not always possible for some our our residents whose needs do not reflect continuing some of their original hobbies or learning new skills. Please feel free to discuss this further with us so that we can understand your concerns.

Staff are welcoming and helpful. They care for the residents' needs, always happy to help to take to the bathroom. They care, always letting you aware of residents' needs ie, toiletries Clothes etc. They keep the residents active by doing creative activities. However would like more photos of residents,
Seeing them engaged + happy. The Care home is clean and staff are very attentive to any spillages, needs of residents needing. Changing. I feel happy knowing residents are cared for
Reply from Sharon Adjei, Ops/Clinical Director at Scorton Care VillageWe are pleased that the creativity of our staff meets the needs of our residents and will pass this on, thank you. The activities staff do take as many photographs as they are able but unfortunately we must always respect the needs and wishes of residents and data protection. Please speak with us if you would like your loved one having photographs taken more frequently whilst they engage in activities.

The only negative point I can make is the fact my dad does not get taken outside enough which makes him feel cooped up (his words) and I feel this is not helping his dementia.
Reply from Sharon Adjei, Ops/Clinical Director at Scorton Care VillageThank you for this review. It has been noted that due to the very icy/cold weather, residents have been unable to access the garden/ground areas. This has been risk assessed and "outings" will be offered when the weather improves. We hope this meets with the needs and welfare of all our residents. Indoor activities are offered to avoid any issues to maintain integration/socialisation.

My uncle recently moved into Elizabeth House from another care home in the area.
The contrast between the two homes is astounding. The other home was basic in every way from cheap bedding to smells, a bit of neglect, and just no care at all. Food was left beside is bed and he was expected to feed himself.
He did not eat much and sometimes I would visit two hours after a meal and it would be untouched.
At Scorton the care given was outstanding and very genuine. Today a very patient gentle and kind person fed him.
I do not feel that I have to worry about him anymore.
Reply from Sharon Adjei, Ops/Clinical Director at Scorton Care VillageMany thanks for your thoughtful review. I will pass on your thoughts to the care team at Elizabeth House.

My dad moved to Scorton Care Home 3 years ago he has now sadly passed away. The care he received while he was there was outstanding, all the staff did a wonderful job, and my dad always looked very clean and tidy. The home was always very clean bright and very welcoming. He enjoyed his food, he was
in the nursing ward. I always found the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Scorton Care Village is amzing. The staff are so friendly and helpful. My father is very well looked after. I have total faith in everyone at Scorton Care Village. We are encouraged to bring our pets to see my dad and of course, the other residents on the unit enjoy this too. Our 8-month-old granddaughter
is very popular on the unit, she's gained a whole new family from Scorton Care Village. Thank you so much everyone for all that you do for my family, especially my father, who I knew can be very difficult.

My husband is being well looked after, in a lovely room with his own mementoes around him. He is being kept clean and dressed and his health matters are attended to. Occasionally staff have problems with understanding instructions due to the language barriers, therefore, arrangments are not carried
out.

I have been coming here to visit my friend for couple of years. My oldest friend works for CQC as does my relative so I am aware of things to be aware of. So I do have a tendency to observe my surroundings. Also having qualifications in MH. It allows me to watch interactions with staff to residents.
I have found the part of the home I visit to be very clean and tidy. Hand sanitiser where you sign in. Plenty of information on notice board. I don't have much engagement with staff. As I go straight to my friend's room... but found the one staff member who will happily chat to be very pleasant. I have seen some staff sit and chat to residents. My friend who is bedbound is always clean and has clean bedding on. I was there a day when a cleaner was mopping the floor and it smelt lovely. Well done to hard-working cleaners who work hard to provide a nice clean environment. And of course to carers it is not an easy job. That I know. So you are appreciated.

The resident's resistance to basic hygiene has been a significant part of managing his dementia. The staff have been brilliant at looking after him, making sure he is washed and changed and his room cleaned as required. Regular shaving has recently been introduced which was unimaginable for us. It is
so good to see him looking so much better even though his dementia continues to progress. Scorton have given him back his dignity.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.655)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.655) out of 10 for Scorton Care Village is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 43 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 43 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.655 for Scorton Care Village is calculated as follows: ( (360 Excellents x 5) + (113 Goods x 4) + (21 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 499 Ratings = 4.655
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Scorton Care Village is based on 43 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 114 registered maximum number of service users is 22.8, which has been reached with 43 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

I moved to the UK after living in Italy, during which time I completed further education to a high standard, working in a senior role. My first role upon arriving here in the UK was as a Care Assistant at Scorton Care Village, North Yorkshire. This position gave me an insight into social care, and I quickly made many connections within the area on a personal and professional level. My existing skills, knowledge, and experience gave me the opportunity to advance my career by seeking more challenging roles, including Unit Manager and Deputy Manager, before assuming my current position as the Registered Home Manager. During the past few years, I have implemented many changes within the service, achieving an overall “Good” from CQC and raising the profile of the home.

I consider myself to be fair, firm, honest, and committed to my role. I take pride in my work and am resolute when it comes to my responsibilities and accountabilities towards the service, residents, and staff. I am dedicated to ensuring that residents and staff receive the best support at Scorton Care Village and that I continue to make a difference.
