My Mum was in Southlands for what only was a short period of time. However, she settled in well and enjoyed her time. The home has a very friendly atmosphere and the staff are attentive. I am so pleased that she felt happy and safe.
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave your review. We are happy to hear that although your Mum was only with us for a short time she had settled well and found our staff to be kind and attentive. We are so sorry for your loss but hopefully it is comforting to know that your Mum was well cared for in her time with us at Southlands.
A perfect residence for my mother in law , she was extremely happy there . The staff in all departments were all very personable and knew the needs and idiosyncrasies of every resident . Southlands was always a clean , safe & welcoming space , my mother in law enjoyed the varied activities on offer , the sociability and always enthused about the variety and quality of food available . As a visitor I always felt welcome and very well looked after . We felt that her every need was met and knew she was in the very best of hands at all times which was our number one priority when finding a suitable place for her .
Your review means a great deal to our team and we're so grateful you shared your experience. Providing kind and attentive care is in the heart of everything we do, so it's lovely to hear your feedback. We're delighted that you found the activities to be enjoyable- we believe staying active and...
I've had the pleasure of working at Southlands Care Home alongside Cedric, my therapy dog and I can't praise the team enough. The staff are incredibly caring, supportive and dedicated to the residents, always going above and beyond to create a warm and welcoming environment.
The activities on offer are excellent and there's always something thoughtful and engaging taking place to keep residents involved and stimulated. Cedric is always so warmly welcomed too!A genuinely wonderful care home with a fantastic team at its heart

I would like to thank everyone at Southlands for the excellent and compassionate care they provided to my aunt since January, especially nurse Hannah and Savina, but also all the other nurses, care staff and supporting staff who helped keep her safe and as happy as possible during her last few months. My sister and I were very happy with our choice of Southlands, with its pleasant environment, good service and person centred care; it's a well organised home and I would recommend their services to anyone.
Thank you so much for your kind review - it was a pleasure to look after your aunty she was a lovely lady and it was lovely to get to know both yourself and your sister, thank you again for your feedback. Savina and Hannah will be delighted to read your kind words
Kind Regards
Susan
It is such a huge transition for anyone to make but the whole of the Southlands team have really helped make this as smooth an experience as possible. Nothing has been too much trouble and there is such a welcoming feel about the place - which extends to all the family whenever we visit.
After just a few weeks and with the encouragement of the team he is starting to meet and chat to other residents over lunch and tea and he is definitely enjoying the restaurant menu.
Whilst a home is definitely all about the atmosphere that the care team create, it is an added bonus the social spaces, bedrooms and garden are also all really lovely.
It was such a big decision we had to make choosing a home for him whilst he was in hospital and we are so pleased we chose Southlands.
Thank you so much for your kind review - we are delighted that your Father in Law has settled in so well to Southlands - it is a pleasure to see him walking around the gardens each day, and enjoying social time with his new friends, we very much appreciate your kind review and we are always there should you need any further assistance.
Kind Regards
Susan

I cannot praise all the staff at Southlands for their kind attention and empathy.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your sister's experience at Southlands Care Home - its a joy to look after her - we appreciate your kind words and we enjoy seeing you both at all of our events,
with best wishes Susan
To begin with I was worried mum wouldn't settle, oh how wrong I was, in this short time mum has made friends and is now looking to make more. She has become more independent, she is enjoying the meals. She looks forward to the activities which are always changing they are like a new experience each day, she has become interested in what's going on around her for the first time in years! Now when I go visit mum she's pleased to see me and is chatty and interested in the family where as before she was more interested in what jobs I had done for her and what shopping she needed, life with mum had become one clircle of chores and worries! I now don't need to worry about phone calls of panic from mum or help I'm on the floor and can't get up!
Now I go and ha a cuppa and a chat with her and often some of her new friends she has made.
Thank you for your wonderful review of Southlands - it is a pleasure to look after your mum, she has settled extremely well and is always the first one to join in our activities.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Southlands it is very much appreciated

Since Freda moved in, the care has been excellent, and any requests have been fulfilled promptly. Staff are always pleasant and obliging. The home is spotless and very homely.
Thank you for your lovely feedback we will ensure that the team see this - Kind Regards Susan Sowden Home Manager
The team have been excellent in helping her to transition into a new environment, encouraging participation in a range of activities and facilitating her integration whilst enabling her to retain her autonomy.
They have kept me regularly updated and are proactive and responsive on all things from medical issues to practical ones including finance and care provision, whilst ensuring her room is very comfortable and homely.
I am so very pleased we selected Southlands as I know she is very well looked after by wonderful people in a safe and caring environment.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your mother in our care. It is always nice to hear words like "Professional" and "Friendly" being used to describe our care. We hope to continue providing your loved one with the best possible care.
What tipped the balance in favour of Southlands was learning that this year they are going for an 'Outstanding' rating from the internal BUPA inspectors. The home manager, told me that they are more stringent than the CQC inspectors.
I have been impressed and greatly relieved by how well the nursing and care staff have looked after Dad. They regularly tell me how much they love having him. They have managed his Parkinson's with quiet professionalism, keeping him as safe and active as possible, mentally and physically.
For me Southlands is the benchmark. I believe you will be hard pressed to find somewhere more competent and better value for money.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your Dad in our care. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after. We hope to continue providing your Dad with the best possible care at Southlands Care Home.
I cannot give an opinion regarding value for money because I have no knowledge of other care homes. This was my first experience and overall a good one! I question the degree of cleanliness because I had to ask for some disposable pants to be removed after 3 days from the container in the wet room. My bed was not made until late in the day - I came back from lunch to find it still unmade. Because I was not well on some days, I found it disagreeable to look at an unmade bed. Eventually I made it myself until an assistant (man) took pity on me and did it for me. One day (first week) I was not given any lunch - second week 2 days without lunch or afternoon tea, following which I searched for staff to make sure I had lunch.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your comments. We have a genuine regard for all of our residents. Our resident's health and well being is an absolute priority. We will discuss your feedback with the home's manager to help them continually improve their service.
The atmosphere is one of warmth and inclusion. The residents are at ease and free to participate or not in the many and varied activities on offer, from tai chi to quizzes, singalongs to Zumba, horseracing, to burns night. These are just a few of the numerous pass times on offer every day of the week to keep our brains alert and bodies moving.
There is always something to celebrate at Southlands.
Any excuse to bring out the bunting. On entering the dining room, with fresh flowers on every table, you would be forgiven for thinking that you were having a well-earned holiday in a five star hotel.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your loved one in our care. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after. We hope to continue providing your loved one with the best possible care.
Southlands Care Home provides that confidence.
The staff are particularly good and notify me by email of any changes in my 93-year-old father's condition/situation.
I have just visted and my father is comfortable and well looked after. The staff are good-humoured, despite a difficult job and are always welcoming.

A happy and warm atmosphere prevailed, and we were treated with the utmost respect by both staff and management as they ensured that all present at the lunch had a thoroughly enjoyable experience, as indeed we did.
The meal was very good and the service we received was courteous and professionally delivered, The musical activity provided after the meal was delightful. All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience and I regard myself as fortunate to have been able to attend. Thank you.

Southlands has lots of varied activities going on every day and residents are encouraged to participate. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. My brother has been a resident at Southlands for just under a year now. All the staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and will go the extra mile for the residents. The front of house staff are exceedingly welcoming and helpful which gives a very good impression when you walk in. There is something going on for the residents on most days and they are encouraged to join in.

The manager is so kind and always goes above and beyond to take care of and interact with the residents.
The bedrooms are beautiful, warm and cosy. They are personalised with sentimental items from home.
we live in America so it is very reassuring to see Mum and Dad so safe and cared for. Thank you all so much, you are immensely appreciated. I wish I could remember the names of all the staff members! Everyone is wonderful!
Thank you for your kind words. We are so pleased to hear that your mum and dad are looked after with such kindness and dignity and that you can feel at ease with your loved ones in our care. It is lovely to hear that you are so impressed with the cosy bedrooms and the high standards of care...
Please don't be upset about the 'good' columns - the experience was fine and pretty well did what we required and what it said on the tin. The difference between good and excellent were very small details indeed. The most striking thing of all was the conscientiousness and patience of all the staff to everyone there, however severe their disabilities. All were addressed with dignity and by name. The medical staff were totally on the ball with my own needs. There is bound to be an element of institutionalism with so many mouths to feed all at once. A great advert for Bupa generally.
Thank you for your lovely review. It is always nice to hear from residents who have stayed in our home. Hopefully you will go away from this feeling like you received the best possible care.

Meet the Team (5)

I have been the home manager at Southlands for 22 years and have worked in the care sector for approximately 40 years. I started my journey as a care assistant in a private care home whilst having a young family and I fell in love with all aspects of care and making a difference to so many lives.
I enjoy working in care services as I am very much a people person and enjoy engaging with staff, residents and families.
I am a Mother of 3 boys and have 8 grandchildren - family life is very important to me. In my spare time I love to go on holiday, especially Lanzarote, but I also really enjoy spending the weekend with family at my caravan in the dales.

I started working at Bupa as a care assistant in 2010 whilst I was doing my nursing qualification in the University of Northampton. When I qualified as a Nurse in 2013, I became staff nurse and then progressed to Unit Manager, and now I'm Clinical Deputy Manager.
I first acquired my qualification as a nurse in 2007 after finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in one of the Universities in the Philippines. I eventually worked in hospitals, then decided to come to the UK to explore other options - I've always had an interest in Geriatric Nursing, hence why I chose to work and progress in the care home sector. I enjoy working here as I like working within the Southlands team. Making a difference in someone else’s life is the most fulfilling feeling as a nurse.
I live local to the home, in Harrogate with my 7 year old daughter. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter doing gardening, crafts and watching movies. My family and I like to travel and explore different cultures and foods.

I have worked here for 5 and a half years. I come from a hotel background which links in very well with my role here at Southlands. I love working in care services as every day is different!
I live 5 minutes away from the home with my husband and our two boys. I am a keen gym goer and jogger, and enjoy walking my new puppy, Lily in my spare time.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 13 years, working mostly in hospitals. I moved to the UK 5 years ago and since then have worked here at Southlands care home.
I like working in care services as it makes me feel happy knowing I have assisted in helping people to improve their health and wellbeing.
I live locally, in Harrogate, and I'm married with one son who is 12 years old. In my spare time I enjoy long walks and days out with my family and friends.

I have worked for Bupa for four and a half years. I come from a restaurant/hotel background and I used to own a restaurant in the centre of Harrogate.
I enjoy working in care services as I love chatting with the residents and making them food you know they'll enjoy. I always go the extra mile to ensure they have a balanced, healthy diet.
I live locally to Southlands, in the middle of Harrogate. I am married with 2 boys. In my spare time I enjoy spending with with family, watching football & cricket, and I enjoy my holidays!
