The staff are outstanding in their attention to residents and visitors alike. The nursing staff are caring and alert to any problems and seem to have a respectful relationship with the NHS. I have less experience of the social aspects here, but it seems to me that the effort to get the residents to engage in activities comes across as empathetic and creative. There are obvious downsides, in particular the length of time taken for the lift replacement as acknowledged in the recent newsletter, but this is I understand due to unexpected extra work needed and not the fault of the staff here. They are coping admirably with working through the disruption. Also there is increasing difficulty in finding a parking space, sometimes even resulting in the thoughtless occupation of the ambulance bay. Maybe if lines were painted in the top park, an extra couple of vehicles could be accommodated? My partner has very limited speech after a major stroke, and ultimately I feel he is safe in Southlands.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us your comments. We are pleased to hear that you are overall impressed with the high standards of care provided at Southlands care home. Our resident's health and well-being is an absolute priority, so we will certainly pass your comments onto the home's...
Once mother had settled in the home she really appreciated the tender loving care she received from everyone. She would have liked it if staff could have come sooner when she needed the toilet! This is the only care home I enjoyed visiting. The staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome. There was a lovely well-kept garden where we could take her in the wheelchair.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. It is always nice to hear words like "friendly" and "welcoming" being used to describe our care. We will discuss your feedback with the home's manager to help them continually improve their service. We hope to continue providing your loved one with the best possible care.
The communal areas are varied and well-used by the residents with daily activities which many love to participate in and the garden is a well-kept and welcoming area.
The dining rooms are light, airy and easily accessible and the menu goes above and beyond to suit all tastes, my brother is now eating a varied and healthy diet and really enjoying meal times.
The staff are always on hand to answer any query and provide an excellent family atmosphere whilst carrying out the care with the utmost professionalism.
My brother has adapted well and feels safe and well cared for due to all at Southlands, a big thank you and long may this continue.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your comments. We are glad to hear staff at Southlands Care Home did everything to make the transition as easy as possible for your Brother and family, and that his wellbeing has improved so much whilst he's been in our care. We will certainly pass your comments on to the manager.
I had a short stay at Southlands following hip replacement surgery. Help with mobility, medication, dressing removal and general wellness were available. This provided excellent and essential support following the hospital duration, enhancing the recovery process. Something to bear in mind for the future should the need arise. I have been left with pleasant memories alongside thoughts of dreading the operation.
Thank you for your lovely words. We are pleased to hear that you had a comfortable and supportive recovery at Southlands Care Home and we are very happy to hear you felt at ease in our care. Hopefully you will go away from this feeling like you received the best possible care.
My dad was in Southlands for ten months before he died. I was incredibly impressed by the professionalism, compassion and care he received every day from a wonderful team of people. My family and I visited very regularly, several times a week at all times of the day. We never once had cause for concern or saw him treated with anything other than kindness and patience. It is clear that Southlands has strong leadership and a high level of morale amongst staff. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. The environment is warm, friendly and calm with access to a lovely garden and daily activities. It felt like a very tranquil place in a hectic world. No one really wants their loved one to go into care and we were left with no other option due to his various health issues and declining cognitive ability. We are so glad we chose Southlands for the final phase of his life. We’ll miss him greatly and strangely we’ll also miss Southlands and its team.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. It is always nice to hear words like compassion, kindness and "tranquil" being used to describe the care we provide and the environment at our home. We are saddened to hear about your loss, but hope you can look back on this period of time knowing your dad received the best possible care.
My mother was a resident for over 2 years up to her recent death. Southlands proved to be the perfect place for the latter stages of her life. My mum was fantastically cared for by all of the staff, she felt safe, nurtured and loved by so many at Southlands. As her health deteriorated the sensitivity of and level of care which she experienced from those looking after her at Southlands was exceptional. Several members of staff went way above the call of duty to look after her and to ensure she was comfortable. Our whole family feel nothing but gratitude to everyone at Southlands for caring for my mother.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, and we are sorry to hear of your loss. We are glad to help you and your family through such a difficult time, and hope you will go away from this feeling like your Mum received the best possible care. We will certainly pass your comments on to the manager.
She was settled, in safe hands and was very happy to be there.
The care she had was second to none, very attentive, and always very caring to all the nursing staff and other carers.
There is always plenty of different activities organised for residents and Mum did take part in many and enjoyed them.
The home was always a pleasant, bright clean and friendly place to visit. All the staff are welcoming and willing to help and will go the extra mile if necessary.
The garden too is always kept in good condition and is a great area to spend time in.
We have recommended Southlands without hesitation to other people.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your comments. We are saddened to hear of your loss but are pleased to hear that during the time your Mum stayed at our care home, our staff did nothing but go above and beyond to make sure she was so well looked after. Thank you for choosing Southlands Care Home.
I wanted to post a review of his memory, as I know how happy he was during his stay there.
If you are looking for somewhere to place a loved one, you couldn’t choose a better place than Southlands. I found the staff there were kind, gentle and caring, and nothing was ever too much trouble; they treated Dad like an extended member of their family.
In the two years, Dad was in the care of Southlands, I never felt anxious or worried about him, as I knew he was in good hands. I can honestly say I did not feel this way when Dad was in his previous care home.
Big thank you to all of the team who are brilliant and do a very difficult job.

My mother was able to recover in very pleasant surroundings with excellent support and kindness from the nurses, carers, housekeeping staff and the management team. She was able to return home after recovering and we are very grateful to all at Southlands who helped us.
Thank you for your lovely review. We hope Southlands Care Home did everything possible to make the transition as easy as possible and it is always nice to hear words like “Kindness” and “Excellent” being used to describe our care. Hopefully, you will go away from this feeling like your loved one received the best possible care.
When we called to collect Mum's belongings, I was met with hugs and tears. It's not just their job, they are truly invested. Thank you Southlands, all the nurses, all the carers. Thank you.

The Southlands team did a super job looking after my mother. She needed a period of recuperation when she arrived and the care she received made a huge difference and she recovered well. Both the carers and the nursing team were very good - supportive and understanding of needs, friendly and hard-working.
Thank you for your kind words. It is always nice to hear words like “Supportive” and “Understanding” being used to describe our care. Hopefully you will go away from this feeling like your Mum received the best possible care.
When I visit my husband, I find Southlands peaceful and the staff extremely caring. He enjoys the food, and he has a spacious ensuite room. When I leave, I know he is in good hands.
Thank you for your kind words. We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your husband in our care. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make his stay as comfortable as possible, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
I would highly recommend Southlands to anyone looking for a care home.

It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after. My father has been a resident for six years. He uses a wheelchair but can walk a little way with an aid. He has a lovely airy room and his own wet room. The staff all know him well and let him do his own thing when he wants to, and also get him involved in activities I never expected him to enjoy. There are good food choices each day, and residents can make special requests. It's his home, and we know he is safe and cared for. Southlands has a lovely garden at the rear, which is a real suntrap in the summer. My father was an avid gardener and likes to get outside daily in good weather, which the garden allows. The staff know the regular visitors by name and keeps the families updated with newsletters and meetings. There is a variety of activities each day that residents can take part in, and it is a community.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your comments. We are so happy to hear you can feel at ease with your father in our home. We hope to continue providing him with the best care possible.
I am always impressed by their willingness to go the extra mile. Particularly impressive is the selection of food and the ability to ask for any specific meal, within reason.
Thank you for your feedback. We are very pleased to hear our Southlands care home goes the extra mile for residents and families alike. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to make your loved one's stay as comfortable as possible.
It has taken a while for her to get used to being in care, but from the start, the staff developed a good knowledge of Mum; she has gotten used to them and has made friends, which means she is more likely to have meals and participate in activities with other residents. The staff were very patient with Mum.
When we visit Mum, the staff will immediately say whether Mum is downstairs or still in her room.
It is great to know she is safe and well cared for.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so happy that we were able to offer your Mum the care she needed. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to make her stay as comfortable as possible.
The staff really care about her and are attuned to her moods.
Her room is always very clean, and her clothes are laundered and ironed to a very high standard.
All of the staff are very pleasant when I visit, and nothing is too much trouble for them.
On occasion, her meals have not been great, and she has struggled to eat them - sometimes she has very large portions that she cannot manage, and a great deal of food can be wasted - Mum needs assistance with her meals and, sometimes they look unappetising - Mum does enjoy the custard on the hot puddings though! I appreciate that it is a tremendous task providing food for so many residents with differing needs though.
We appreciate the time you have taken to leave your feedback. It is nice to hear you feel your Mum is well cared for and looked after in our home. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to make your Mum's stay as comfortable as possible.
Southlands Care Home is a lovely place. It has beautiful gardens, and the building itself is a lovely, clean, large place. Very friendly staff who genuinely care for my gran and do a great job of looking after her. I recently took part in their Christmas Market, in which the staff were very supportive with and accommodating with. There are lots of social events that keep the residents entertained.
Thank you for your lovely review. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after and the variety of social events is an important part of the ethos of our home. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make Gran's stay as comfortable as possible.
I was pleased and touched by the way Southlands staff helped celebrate my mother's 100th birthday. They were lovely, making a fuss of her and organising cards from local residents, many with lovely messages for Mum. Arranging a visit from the mayor, making it more of an occasion. The staff are amazing at dealing with many residents, but with care and empathy; it is quite humbling to witness.
Thank you for your feedback. We are so happy to have been able to make it a really special day for your Mum. Thank you for choosing us to care for her.
Southlands has a lovely feel about it from the minute you walk through the door. All the staff are warm, friendly and very welcoming. The food is excellent, with several choices being given every day. A sherry or liqueur is offered as is a glass of wine at lunch if desired. Nothing is any trouble. Activities are varied and are on through the week. Mum is treated with respect and dignity at all times.
I would highly recommend Southlands. It’s a great relief for us all, knowing she is settled, safe and happier than she has been for a while.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so happy to hear you are comforted knowing your Mum is well cared for at Southlands. Thank you for your recommendation.

Meet the Team (5)

I have been the home manager at Southlands for 22 years and have worked in the care sector for approximately 40 years. I started my journey as a care assistant in a private care home whilst having a young family and I fell in love with all aspects of care and making a difference to so many lives.
I enjoy working in care services as I am very much a people person and enjoy engaging with staff, residents and families.
I am a Mother of 3 boys and have 8 grandchildren - family life is very important to me. In my spare time I love to go on holiday, especially Lanzarote, but I also really enjoy spending the weekend with family at my caravan in the dales.

I started working at Bupa as a care assistant in 2010 whilst I was doing my nursing qualification in the University of Northampton. When I qualified as a Nurse in 2013, I became staff nurse and then progressed to Unit Manager, and now I'm Clinical Deputy Manager.
I first acquired my qualification as a nurse in 2007 after finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in one of the Universities in the Philippines. I eventually worked in hospitals, then decided to come to the UK to explore other options - I've always had an interest in Geriatric Nursing, hence why I chose to work and progress in the care home sector. I enjoy working here as I like working within the Southlands team. Making a difference in someone else’s life is the most fulfilling feeling as a nurse.
I live local to the home, in Harrogate with my 7 year old daughter. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter doing gardening, crafts and watching movies. My family and I like to travel and explore different cultures and foods.

I have worked here for 5 and a half years. I come from a hotel background which links in very well with my role here at Southlands. I love working in care services as every day is different!
I live 5 minutes away from the home with my husband and our two boys. I am a keen gym goer and jogger, and enjoy walking my new puppy, Lily in my spare time.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 13 years, working mostly in hospitals. I moved to the UK 5 years ago and since then have worked here at Southlands care home.
I like working in care services as it makes me feel happy knowing I have assisted in helping people to improve their health and wellbeing.
I live locally, in Harrogate, and I'm married with one son who is 12 years old. In my spare time I enjoy long walks and days out with my family and friends.

I have worked for Bupa for four and a half years. I come from a restaurant/hotel background and I used to own a restaurant in the centre of Harrogate.
I enjoy working in care services as I love chatting with the residents and making them food you know they'll enjoy. I always go the extra mile to ensure they have a balanced, healthy diet.
I live locally to Southlands, in the middle of Harrogate. I am married with 2 boys. In my spare time I enjoy spending with with family, watching football & cricket, and I enjoy my holidays!
