The well-appointed public rooms and the available bedroom which is bright and airy made the very difficult decision to move mum from her home into a care home less difficult. We had looked at several Care Homes in the area and we knew immediately that mum would feel comfortable in Southlands. As time went by we became aware of the lovely relationships being built between herself and her carers. She has been well looked after and is very happy. Of particular note have been the varied entertainment options available; something we really felt was important for mum. Covid-19 restrictions have proved a particularly difficult time with visiting in person curtailed. However, staff have been only too willing to chat about mum when I’ve called and assist with phone calls and video calls. The Resident Experience Manager has been invaluable during this time, organising video calls and ‘window visiting’, regular updates by mail, and forwarding messages to nursing staff via email.
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us such lovely comments.
Southlands became Dad’s home from September 2018 until he passed away in April 2020. The staff became Dads friends and the bonds he built with them were a joy to see. The care he received throughout his stay was good. The staff showed empathy, compassion, respected Dad’s dignity and shared Dad’s humour. Our daily visits found him clean, well dressed and comfortable, whilst his bedroom was clean and tidy. Dad loved his food there and ate with great relish! The afternoon teas and entertainment programme lifted spirits!
I could say so many more positive things but will end by saying a HUGE thank you. We will be forever grateful to each and every member of the Southlands Team.
Thank you for your kind words. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after.
We know that Dad is well looked after and every member of staff consistently shows real interest, affection, patience and good humour with all the residents.
It is also a pleasure for my family and I to visit Dad and spend time there - it is very evident that the residents are stimulated by a broad range of music, entertainment by a very talented team and a wide variety of guest speakers and performances.
Southlands is very spacious and residents can either sit in quiet areas inside, enjoy sitting/walking in the beautiful garden or take refreshments and 'watch the world go' by in the coffee lounge.
The resident's private room are excellent and the Dining Room food and service is of a high standard.
Highly recommended in every way ~ a huge thank you to a fabulous team!
We really appreciate you for taking the time to leave us such amazing feedback.
It has been difficult not being able to visit dad because of current restrictions but he has commented on how the staff have tried to make the lockdown bearable and we appreciate the Resident Experience Manager's efforts in keeping us up to date with photos, both of dad to us and vice versa. It has been really important for morale.
Thank you for your understanding during such a difficult time. We appreciate it is very hard not being able to see your loved one for such a long time. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
My father-in-law was a resident for only a short time (10 weeks) but from the moment we had the initial consultation, to his sad death, the staff at the care home were excellent. We were fully informed on our initial interview with the Manager and kept appraised of progress and the state of his medical needs throughout. The nursing and care staff were fabulous and were only too happy to help with any additional requests we had, or in obtaining specific favourite foods and drinks when he was reluctant to eat. Leaving someone you love in the care of others is always a difficult decision to make but our family were more than happy that Southlands took great care of him and had his best interests at heart throughout.
We are very saddened about your father-laws-passing. Hopefully you can go away from this feeling like he received the best possible care. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you or your family.
I have found the staff to be friendly, capable and committed. They have helped my mother through different phases of care need. There is a pleasant atmosphere in Southlands and my mother has been made to feel at home there.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such lovely feedback.
A huge thank you to all the Team of Carers and support staff at Southlands for your continued kindness and support towards my mum. Its been a stressful time for everybody during the Pandemic but you've retained your good humour and cheerful spirits despite a real need to dig deep in these unprecedented circumstances. Good luck in the continuing weeks ahead.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such lovely comments.
My dad has now been at Southlands for over 5 years. He is very happy here and is exceptionally well looked after by the staff. The facilities are excellent with spacious communal areas, and a choice of rooms to spend time in. The premises were recently completely refurbished and it is bright and airy throughout. There is a large accessible garden, which is well looked after, and it regularly used by residents. The dining area is also bright and spacious, with good quality, varied food. Dad recently had a lovely 90th birthday party, which was organised by the staff. The staff really are wonderful - so friendly and caring. I live on the south coast, so keep in touch with Dad directly with a phone in his room, or regular conversations with staff who are always happy to spend time talking to me. All the staff know Dad well and everyone takes time to stop and to have a chat and a joke with him. I can highly recommend Southlands and feel we made an excellent choice for his home.
Thank you for your praise and for trusting us with your fathers care. We are very happy to hear he enjoyed his birthday celebrations!
My mum spent the last 18 months of her life at Southlands. It was always a pleasure to visit her, with a very friendly vibe, caring staff, clean, pleasant and homely surrounding, and always something going on with staff, residents and visitors interacting with each other. Mum was well cared for and staff were always prepared to listen to any concerns and act on them promptly. Mum was always treated with dignity and kindness.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such kind words.
My father enjoyed his stay here at Southlands to the full. Very many thanks to all.
Having viewed virtually all other nursing homes in the area, Southlands was by far the best even though it was not geographically near to where we live for visiting. We felt it was better to travel further so dad could have the best care.
Even enabling video calls during lock-down.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such kind words.
The care that was given to my mother-in-law was wonderful, they did everything thing possible to look after her, nothing was to much trouble, and even when things got difficult with Covid-19 they still did whatever they could to enable us to spend time with her before she passed away.
We are very sorry about your loss. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you or your family.
Southlands staff offer a highly professional, yet very friendly and welcoming care home service. As the son of a resident, I have always felt that my mother was being looked after with expertise and humanity. All staff are always most considerate to myself, brother and sister.
It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after. Thank you for your feedback.
My brother arrived in April 2019 and since then we have peace of mind that he is safe and well looked after. Staff are professional, friendly and caring. He has a nice bright ensuite room which is cleaned regularly. Good variety of activities incl visiting singers and choirs and my brother is always encouraged to join in. Afternoon tea served in the ballroom is always a treat. Pretty garden at the back where residents can sit weather permitting. Food is good and catering staff try their best to accommodate dietary requirements.
We are very happy to hear you have peace of mind with your brother in our care. Thank you for the praise.
We had to find a home for Mum as she required 24-hour care, it was a very hard thing to do but we never regretted choosing Southlands. They were so friendly and cared for Mum so well. They were also very good to us and especially so in the last few weeks and months with the virus preventing us from visiting. They kept us informed and set up FaceTime and video calls. We could also go in and see Mum on the day she passed away. Forever grateful for their kindness.
We are very sorry about your mother. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you or your family.
Mum has been here over 7 years and has been content (but would rather be in her own home the way it used to be!)
The overall atmosphere at Southlands is one of a well-kept, aesthetically pleasing home with a variety of communal rooms for residents to socialise or be quiet in.
The staff are friendly and caring and build relationships with the residents. There are monthly meetings to receive updates and make suggestions.
Residents are stimulated with activities and physiotherapy and a hairdresser is available. Family and friends are always made to feel welcome. All of this has been consistent in the many years Mum has been there.
We know this is a very difficult time for our residents and their families, so we deeply appreciate your kindness and understanding. Thank you for the praise.
The care staff have all endured the COVID-19 situation, with a smile on their faces and a happy word or two on their lips.
Mum has had the dreaded COVID-19 virus, which must have been scary for her, but was made bearable by the loving care she received from caring staff at Southlands and she endured the fourteen days of total isolation.
The staff contact us and they also help Mum to make phone calls, now that she is weakened by the effects of the virus, and we appreciate it so much.
Thank you to all.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such kind words.
I have experienced stays in about four care homes for my wife. This one is by far the best, with the residents allowed to mix the dementia residents with the other residents is a big plus. The food is good and the environment very pleasant with access to a big garden and a large assembly hall. Entertainment is good especially, covering a fair amount of the time residents experience every day.
Thank you for the kind comments, we really appreciate it!
We are always welcomed into Southlands each time we visit my stepfather. He has been in the care home since April 2019 and is very happy there. He has put on a good amount of weight over the months which proves what the food is like, it's superb. We have had lunches too, very tasty. The activities are really good and varied although my stepdad prefers to stay in his room. The staff have tried to engage him but to no avail.
We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your stepfather in our care. Thank you for your praise.
Grateful thanks.
Thank you for sharing such lovely comments. We are very happy to hear you enjoyed the Christmas Market and hope you can feel at ease with your family member in our care.
At a very anxious time and under pressure to find a home for my mum-in-law, we went to Southlands. It was tea time, but we received a warm welcome and after a chat, much needed cuppa and look around. There was no doubt that the family would be happy with our decision. What a huge relief. All the staff are excellent and respectful of the residents, very caring and thoughtful too, with cheerful greetings to visitors and time to explain medication/treatments etc. The home is kept beautifully clean and the neat gardens enhance the overall environment. A huge thank you to all for everything you did for Granny and our family.
Thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely comments. We are very happy to hear you could feel at ease with your mother-in-law in our care. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one is cared for and looked after.

Meet the Team (5)

I have been the home manager at Southlands for 22 years and have worked in the care sector for approximately 40 years. I started my journey as a care assistant in a private care home whilst having a young family and I fell in love with all aspects of care and making a difference to so many lives.
I enjoy working in care services as I am very much a people person and enjoy engaging with staff, residents and families.
I am a Mother of 3 boys and have 8 grandchildren - family life is very important to me. In my spare time I love to go on holiday, especially Lanzarote, but I also really enjoy spending the weekend with family at my caravan in the dales.

I started working at Bupa as a care assistant in 2010 whilst I was doing my nursing qualification in the University of Northampton. When I qualified as a Nurse in 2013, I became staff nurse and then progressed to Unit Manager, and now I'm Clinical Deputy Manager.
I first acquired my qualification as a nurse in 2007 after finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in one of the Universities in the Philippines. I eventually worked in hospitals, then decided to come to the UK to explore other options - I've always had an interest in Geriatric Nursing, hence why I chose to work and progress in the care home sector. I enjoy working here as I like working within the Southlands team. Making a difference in someone else’s life is the most fulfilling feeling as a nurse.
I live local to the home, in Harrogate with my 7 year old daughter. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter doing gardening, crafts and watching movies. My family and I like to travel and explore different cultures and foods.

I have worked here for 5 and a half years. I come from a hotel background which links in very well with my role here at Southlands. I love working in care services as every day is different!
I live 5 minutes away from the home with my husband and our two boys. I am a keen gym goer and jogger, and enjoy walking my new puppy, Lily in my spare time.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 13 years, working mostly in hospitals. I moved to the UK 5 years ago and since then have worked here at Southlands care home.
I like working in care services as it makes me feel happy knowing I have assisted in helping people to improve their health and wellbeing.
I live locally, in Harrogate, and I'm married with one son who is 12 years old. In my spare time I enjoy long walks and days out with my family and friends.

I have worked for Bupa for four and a half years. I come from a restaurant/hotel background and I used to own a restaurant in the centre of Harrogate.
I enjoy working in care services as I love chatting with the residents and making them food you know they'll enjoy. I always go the extra mile to ensure they have a balanced, healthy diet.
I live locally to Southlands, in the middle of Harrogate. I am married with 2 boys. In my spare time I enjoy spending with with family, watching football & cricket, and I enjoy my holidays!
