My father used Southlands for respite care. My parents were nervous about my father going in. Staff were very helpful on arrival. Caring and professional. Southlands Covid's secure measures were robust. Facilities were excellent. Room was spacious, had an ensuite bathroom/shower, and room was equipped to suit my father's needs. He was very well looked after during his stay. Visiting was possible. My father enjoyed his meals, especially the breakfast! We will need more respite care in the future, and my father will be residing at Southlands again soon.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your comments. It is lovely to hear that you feel your father was looked after well at Southlands care home during his stay. We are looking forward to seeing you again.
Southlands became her home in a real and absolute sense of these words. Just excellent in every way from the “posh coffee and cake” at 3.00 to the amazing activities offered daily. Her life began again as she made friends, eating in the luxury restaurant to spending time in the truly beautiful gardens.
But above all, this is the “heart” of Southlands that shines in each one of the staff that makes the team at Southlands. They care, they actually care and surrounded my beautiful mummy with love and care. I went daily, so I know I saw this in person at all times of the day. They never faltered, even during Covid, they did their absolute best for their residents to keep them safe and happy.
What more can I say; thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Thank you for your lovely review. It is so nice to hear you describe how your Mum's life started again in our care at Southlands. Hopefully, this will give you some comfort knowing that she really was cared about. Thank you again for taking the time to write this for us.
The staff have been lovely, making my mother comfortable after returning from hospital, so thank you. It is still very difficult at the moment with the virus, but everyone works so hard to keep everyone safe.
Thank you for your lovely review. We are glad that our efforts to keep everyone safe are of comfort to you. Thank you for your kind words.
My friend was very comforted by the care and kindness shown by the staff at Southlands. They were always friendly and welcoming. The establishment was spotlessly clean and well maintained, while the food was of a high standard. I shall always be grateful for the care and respect shown, which greatly alleviated, what in essence, was my friend's last few months.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your comments. It is lovely to hear that your friend is comfortable and happy in our care home. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your friends stay as comfortable as possible.
The entertainment staff are brilliant, they work very hard to make our days here enjoyable.
When I need to go to the hospital for appointments, transport is always sorted out for me, which is important.
The food is great, and if there is nothing on the menu I fancy, the staff are always willing to provide an alternative.
In general, a first-rate place altogether
Full marks from me!
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad to hear that you are happy in our care and that the staff are always on hand to help with everything you need. Thank you for choosing us to look after you.
When we looked around Southlands, we knew immediately it would be the happiest home for Dad to spend his twilight years. Dad lived so happily and content there for 4-years and created wonderful relationships with all of the staff and residents. It was a very pleasant place to visit, and we enjoyed spending time there as a family, also creating relationships with staff, residents and other visiting family members. Dad enjoyed all the activities in the home, especially the singers and joined in with the wonderful variety of activities that were provided. Because the building is so spacious, it feels like a hotel and there is plenty of room for everybody to relax and enjoy the surroundings, including the well-kept garden with an aviary full of brightly coloured budgies. Unfortunately, Dad passed away last year during Covid, and the staff made his final days so wonderful, allowing us into the home to be with him and say our goodbyes. We will never forget their kindness and compassion.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review and your kind words. We hope you can go away from this knowing that your Dad received the best care possible in his final years. Thank you for choosing us to look after him.
My last visit due to Covid was March 2020. The home was warm and inviting and we were greeted with the usual faces at reception. Regular activities are available for residents. Excellent meal choices available as well as regular coffees and gorgeous cake selections every afternoon. Surrounded by a beautiful garden with plenty of seating to admire the views on a warm, sunny day.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your comments. It is lovely to hear words such as warm and inviting to describe our home. We hope to continue providing your Grandmother with the best possible care.
The care my mother is receiving is excellent. The staff are attentive, responsive and go out of their way to assist with her needs. The care home is always very clean, it is welcoming, has lots of good space for residents to use and a great garden. The variety of activities and residents' programme is truly impressive.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are glad to hear that you feel that the staff are so responsive to your mother's needs. We hope to continue providing her with the best possible care.
First time seeing Mum face to face since March 2020. She still seems happy in her own world. Have asked the staff countless times if they could cut Mums meals up, but still, she is struggling! Falls seem to be happening a lot more, but I'm kept informed and she seems non the worse. Staff all sounded happy and as attentive as always. Plenty of activities going on, and Mum gets her hair cut this week! Overall pleased.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave us your review. I will certainly pass your comments on to the manager about Mums food. We are so happy to be able to welcome you back in for visits, and please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support you both.
My dad spent four very happy years at Southlands, in fact, he really came out of his shell whilst living there and participated in activities he would never normally have done. This was down the all the encouragement and love from the staff. The staff are the most wonderful and caring people, who create great relationships with the residents, which was extremely important to us. Their care and compassion during Dad's final weeks were outstanding; we all pulled together like one big family. I highly recommend Southlands to anybody who is considering care for their loved one.
Thank you for your kind words. It is lovely to hear you describe our staff as wonderful and caring. We have such genuine regard for all our residents, so it's nice to know you felt like part of the family and that the staff were able to support you through this sad time. Thank you.
Staff very helpful, constructive and have been supportive. My daughter has felt very safe there. We are still looking for alternative accommodation to suit her age group, but Southlands has been just so helpful. The work their care workers have put in during the pandemic is beyond belief. I do hope they get the recognition they deserve.
Thank you so much for taking your time to leave such a lovely review. We are so glad to hear your daughter feels safe in our care, and under our wonderful carers at Southlands. We will certainly be sure to pass your recognition and praise on to the relevant people. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you!
All the staff at Southlands have welcomed Mum into her new home. They arranged visits to her window and now into her room. They have phoned with regular updates and always have time to chat about her day. At a very difficult time, with the help of a live video tour, I felt I got to see enough of the home to make a decision for Mum. Mum is settled and happy receiving all the care that she needs.
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us such lovely comments. Thank you for your understanding during such a difficult time. We are so glad you feel well informed about mums care. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
It was a very emotional visit not only for mum and me but also seeing all the staff and carers. Mum looked so well, and as usual, dressed elegantly. Very well organised to strict regulations, but I felt very welcome and happy to follow the regulations required. Extremely easy to book a visit.
I FaceTimed my brother while visiting Mum, so she loved chatting with her family. As I said goodbye, Mum turned to me and said, I have so enjoyed this morning.
Thank you so much for sharing this lovely experience with us. We are so pleased to hear how happy you are with your visit. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you and your family.
My mum been at Southlands for just over 2-months and is very well cared for. All the staff who I have dealt with have been most helpful, courteous, very kind and understanding. Due to Covid restrictions, my first visit in person was only yesterday. I was very impressed with everything about the home. It was very welcoming and well-staffed. Nothing was too much trouble for all the staff. A very nice carer spent the time introducing herself as one of the people looking after my mum. Despite the disabilities and physical ailments my mum has, she was far more content and happy that I have seen her for ages. She had been struggling with various carer visits in her own home and is now so much more happy now she has formed relationships with dedicated staff, knowing this is now her home.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such a beautiful review. We are so glad to hear you are confident about leaving mum in our care, and that she is forming good relationships with our lovely members of staff. We really appreciate your kind words and will be sure to pass them on to the relevant team.
My mother spent five very happy years at Southlands. All the staff from cleaners to the nursing staff were kind and loving. I visited on a weekly basis, always made welcome as were other relatives and friends. Southlands provided a lot of entertainment encouraged residents to take part. It is also lucky to have a lovely garden, ideal for garden parties and fundraising events. 2020, a very difficult year, Southlands kept families well informed of changing circumstances. As the year progressed, Mums health was failing, and end of life was put into place during December. I was allowed to visit. Once again, I cannot praise the staff enough for their devotion and love they showed to Mum and me.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review and your kind words. It is always nice to hear from family members feeling like their loved one was cared for and looked after during such a difficult time and that you can go away from this feeling like your loved one received the best possible care.
Nanna was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in late 2017 and came to Southlands in 2018. She has been superbly cared for, ten socialisation element is brilliant, as she is such a people person, the activities provided help to stimulate her mind; bingo, arts and crafts, chocolate tasting, indoor bowling, film night, take away night; this was a very important consideration for our family given her gregarious personality and her diagnosis. The entertainment provided is also brilliant, ranging from singers and choirs coming in and putting on shows for the residents in the ballroom (nibbles and drinks are always served) to pantomimes as well as chair yoga, physiotherapy, therapeutic animals, church services, wine and cheese tasting (just to name a few). The staff are really what makes the place a ‘home’ for Nanna. Their patience, resilience and compassion are what we value most, not to mention they’re on-top fo the training game. Also, all the food is made from scratch, which is hard to come by!
Thank you for your lovely review. We are happy to hear that you feel like your Nanna is part of our Southlands family and is so well entertained. I will certainly pass your comments on to the team.
Mum is being well looked after, and this is all we can ask at this time.
Thank you.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are glad to hear you feel your Mum is being well looked after, and thank you for trusting us with her care.
Feel very fortunate to have found such a caring and comfortable home. The building lends itself well - spacious, airy and great communal spaces and garden.
Very high standard all round!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments regarding Southlands Care Home. We are very happy to hear you can feel at ease with your father in our care. Thank you for trusting us with your loved one’s care.
Thank you for taking care of my Mum through these difficult times. The staff are very helpful in letting you know how your loved ones are doing and are very accommodating with telephone calls, video calls or window visits. It is great to see photos of activities on Facebook and the residents looking well and happy. Great job everybody, thanks
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave us such lovely comments.
We are so thankful for this, and I couldn’t recommend Southlands more highly.
It is always nice to hear such kind words being used to describe our care. Thank you for the comments.

Meet the Team (5)

I have been the home manager at Southlands for 22 years and have worked in the care sector for approximately 40 years. I started my journey as a care assistant in a private care home whilst having a young family and I fell in love with all aspects of care and making a difference to so many lives.
I enjoy working in care services as I am very much a people person and enjoy engaging with staff, residents and families.
I am a Mother of 3 boys and have 8 grandchildren - family life is very important to me. In my spare time I love to go on holiday, especially Lanzarote, but I also really enjoy spending the weekend with family at my caravan in the dales.

I started working at Bupa as a care assistant in 2010 whilst I was doing my nursing qualification in the University of Northampton. When I qualified as a Nurse in 2013, I became staff nurse and then progressed to Unit Manager, and now I'm Clinical Deputy Manager.
I first acquired my qualification as a nurse in 2007 after finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in one of the Universities in the Philippines. I eventually worked in hospitals, then decided to come to the UK to explore other options - I've always had an interest in Geriatric Nursing, hence why I chose to work and progress in the care home sector. I enjoy working here as I like working within the Southlands team. Making a difference in someone else’s life is the most fulfilling feeling as a nurse.
I live local to the home, in Harrogate with my 7 year old daughter. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter doing gardening, crafts and watching movies. My family and I like to travel and explore different cultures and foods.

I have worked here for 5 and a half years. I come from a hotel background which links in very well with my role here at Southlands. I love working in care services as every day is different!
I live 5 minutes away from the home with my husband and our two boys. I am a keen gym goer and jogger, and enjoy walking my new puppy, Lily in my spare time.

I have been a Registered Nurse for 13 years, working mostly in hospitals. I moved to the UK 5 years ago and since then have worked here at Southlands care home.
I like working in care services as it makes me feel happy knowing I have assisted in helping people to improve their health and wellbeing.
I live locally, in Harrogate, and I'm married with one son who is 12 years old. In my spare time I enjoy long walks and days out with my family and friends.

I have worked for Bupa for four and a half years. I come from a restaurant/hotel background and I used to own a restaurant in the centre of Harrogate.
I enjoy working in care services as I love chatting with the residents and making them food you know they'll enjoy. I always go the extra mile to ensure they have a balanced, healthy diet.
I live locally to Southlands, in the middle of Harrogate. I am married with 2 boys. In my spare time I enjoy spending with with family, watching football & cricket, and I enjoy my holidays!
