Thistle Hill Care Home provides high-quality 24-hour nursing and specialist dementia care in its dedicated Memory Lane Community.

The home offers skilled care for younger people with physical disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and has close links with the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The aim is to improve the quality of life for every resident by providing care in a safe and homely environment.

The team of highly qualified staff focus on the individual needs of residents using bespoke care plans, which are regularly reviewed.

Since moving in 9 months ago staff have been amazing dealing with some very challenging behaviour. I have absolutely no worries and now know he is a complete contrast to the previous home he was in.

My husband has been at Thistle Hill since August 23. His transition from the hospital to the care home was quite a struggle for my husband but through the wonderful and professional staff, my husband soon got used to it. My husband can be challenging but all staff handled him v v well. I feel that my
husband's room could do with a coat of paint and maybe a new carpet, but in the big scheme, that is not a priority. The management are delightful including the caretakers, kitchen staff and housekeeping who all work so hard. The grounds are fantastic with not much disruption due to building work.

My mother has been cared for in this delightful home since November 2021. The staff are extremely personable and caring and I have never had a single complaint or issue regarding my mother's care over the last, almost, three years. She is treated with dignity and respect. Barchester Thistle Hill Care
Home is a very well-run home, my emails are always responded to promptly and there is a warm and welcoming atmosphere on entering the home. I would have no hesitation recommending this home to others.

Mum was a resident at Barchester Thistle Hill Care Home from 2019 until June 2024 and celebrated her 100th birthday in their care. The care was excellent, especially during her final days. The staff on Ripley were like family and treated Mum like a family member.
Thistle Hill gardens are lovely and
peaceful with a wooded area to walk through next to open fields. Highly recommend and many thanks to the staff.

My Mum had lived in the Home for nearly four years. Over the four years, Mum was well looked after and received a high standard of care. Sadly Mum passed away towards the end of February 2024.
She received excellent end-of-life care. On the day of her passing the staff were still able to connect with
Mum and tend to her needs.

My mother never expected to need a care home, but an ultimately terminal illness changed that in April 2023. Thus Mum became a resident at Thistle Hill and I can only say that all the staff went above and beyond to make her stay as pleasant as possible. Nothing was too much trouble, including unusual
dietary requirements. She had a room overlooking the beautiful grounds and the bird feeders by her window were visited by a greater variety of wild birds than she had ever seen. There is a wonderful woodland walk in the extensive grounds that Mum enjoyed while she was well enough, particularly the cows in an adjacent field that reminded her of her childhood. When her care and nursing needs increased these were met superbly. Thistle Hill is a care home that is well managed with highly competent staff who really care. While Mum didn't particularly take part, there are a wide variety of social activities offered. Lastly, the basics such as cleaning and catering are excellent too.

In all the time my father was at Thistle Hill Care Home, I have been very happy with the care provided. Great communication with my mother if he needed medication. They always had an "open door" policy for family members, and the staff were so friendly and caring. Thank you all.

The care my aunt received was outstanding. My aunt loved every minute of living at Thistle Hill. She loved all staff and she made some great friends too, loved all the activities and loved to join in. Nothing was too much trouble every staff member goes above and beyond in their roles. The food is fantastic
as we have sampled it many times. The warmth and friendliness when you walk into Thistle Hill are so lovely. In my aunties words, "It was walking into heaven". My aunt loved being there right till the end. I cannot thank everyone at Thistle enough for taking such good care of her. We will keep in touch and will be popping in to see everyone. Thank you.

Absolutely amazing care and truly wonderful, dedicated staff and management. Everyone deserves praise for going above and beyond every single day, supporting my mum and making sure she is looked after and getting her the help she needs instantly when a doctor or hospital is needed for her health needs.

My aunt went to Thistle Hill Care Home for end-of-life care and sadly passed away quite quickly during her short stay. She received wonderful care and we could not have asked for more. All the staff I met were very kind and a real credit to the nursing home. I am so pleased that my aunt was able to
spend her last two weeks at Thistle Hill, rather than in a hospital bed. A bid thank you to all the lovely people who looked after my aunt and supported me at such a difficult time.

After a very long hospital stay (my husband) where he refused to eat, the very first day at Thistle Hill Care Home he began again and never stopped until he left a month later! Lovely staff, kind and efficient, excellent food and a good atmosphere.

Professional, skilled care in beautiful surroundings. The added magic is the multi-culture of the staff. My mother sadly passed away in December, but the last few months that she spent in Thistle Hill were spent amongst very caring individuals. The level of care was very high, with frequent monitoring and contact. Mum talked very little in the months leading up to her death, but I think she spoke to the
staff more than she talked to me. The staff were very supportive of me and my brothers, as well as my mother and that, was really appreciated.
Of the 4 different care homes Mum had experienced in Harrogate, I would definitely recommend Thistle Hill for its compassion, care and understanding, much more so than some of the others.

Sadly my dad only spent 5 months with you but boy were they a fantastic few months. From the start he was made to feel like family and so were we, the staff are all wonderfully caring and went above and beyond to care for my dad right up to the end of his life and they even made that as pleasant an
experience as it can be. Sometimes dad wasn't easy to care for with his dementia but they always dealt with him with compassion and understanding.
The whole setting is so peaceful and has a lovely outside area which we could take dad out to on sunny days and the food is 5 stars, freshly baked cakes were a favourite of my dads.
This home has everything you need and what's great is they make you as the visitor feel like part of their family too, they let you visit whenever you need and kept us informed of all dad's issues and treatments.
I can not praise them all enough, thank you Thistle Hill I would highly recommend you to all.

I have more than 20 years of experience in the care sector and started my career working with people with learning disabilities. Hi, my name is Debbie and I have been working at Thistle Hill since 2020 and started as a part-time admin assistant which I loved, however, the chance to become an administrator has recently arisen and I was appointed and started this position which is full-time in June. I am really enjoying my new position.


I like to spend my spare time with my family I have two grown-up daughters both of whom are nurses.


One of my daughters works here at Thistle Hill. I am a proud grandmother to two lovely granddaughters who are nine and two.


I like to travel when this is permitted and love Corfu in Greece where I have been on holiday for 15 years. I recently went to Las Vegas with my younger daughter, where we spent time exploring, and visited the Grand Canyon via helicopter flying over the Hoover Dam.

Joe is our wonderful in-house Physiotherapist at Thistle Hill Care Home. Joe is a very popular member of the team and residents love him. Joe is not only busy at work, he has a very busy time at home with two little ones - a boy and a girl, who he is so proud of. When he gets a minute to himself, Joe chills out by watching the football and playing football. Joe likes to do a bit of running and plays the piano.
