St Mark’s Court Care Home serves a community that was once dominated by shipbuilding and many of the staff and residents have lived in the area all their lives. This explains why there’s such a warm, communal feeling there. Staff, residents and their families have many shared experiences, which helps staff to build meaningful relationships with residents.
Visitors to St Mark’s Court often remark that it is very homely. This could...

Staff are welcoming and friendly. Always kind to my kids who visit with me. Management has changed frequently but I feel my dad is in good hands. My dad is not very open or able to explain his medical care here however from what I know, I have no concerns.
Thank you for taking the time write your review, your positive feedback will be shared with all the team.
Absolutely filthy place. Staff had no hygiene training of either food or patient cleanliness. Room very rarely cleaned and never thoroughly. Bed and mattress never clean and very old, holes in mattress. Scruffy stained bedding- mould on pillows. Patient left in bed for 10 weeks. Mould growing on breakfast butter. Bins always full and rarely emptied. Furniture falling to bits. Patient left long periods in urine or faeces. Patient not monitored properly, falling on floor regularly. Constant noise from patients screaming day and night.
St Marks care home in Gateshead is absolutely appauling. Some members of staff are kind and do try to work for the best of the residents others however I have found lazy and are unable to complete the most basic of care tasks. If you're looking for a care home that serves awful food, leaves residents in dirty beds and in dirty rooms, does not protect residents medical record or personal data and stores clinical waste incorrectly this is the place for you. If I could give a zero star rating I would.
We are very pleased with the care being provided. The staff are all excellent and there are so many planned activities. Clearly the focus is on meeting residents needs and supporting them to be as independent as possible. As family members we are always kept informed and consulted. The home is clean and the rooms are a good size with accessible call bells that are always quickly responded to.
Thank you for your amazing 5-star review, your wonderful feedback will be passed to all the team.
Outstanding care, Grandmother is well looked after. Fantastic facilities and allowed peace of mind knowing she has been cared for to the highest standard. 100% recommend.
Thank you for your fantastic 5-star review and wonderful feedback that we will share with the team.
My father-in-law was in here for 2 weeks for palliative care, I would like to thank all the nursing staff and carers. The love, care, compassion and support from all the staff was exceptional. They go above and beyond to help all residents in this home, I would highly recommend it to anyone! They deserve more than 5 stars. Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts!
Thank you for your wonderful review and amazing feedback for the team, this will be passed on to them all!
So as a family, we decided to take him out and he is now in a new care home. He is really happy now.
Very good.
I can't thank everyone so much for all they have done for us.
Very prompt and efficient move-in process and changing room to be more comfortable and near the nurses station. Good communication from nursing staff with health updates. Staff are positive and engaging. Would like more receptiveness to sensor mat alarms, but understand pressure on staffing, plus clothes missing during laundry. But overall, our family have been very grateful of the level of care and respect offered to our family members and we would recommend St Marks to others!
At all times I have witnessed the staff treat my father with dignity and care. At times there has been a tense situation and the staff have always managed to control and resolve the situation. The management staff have been very helpful, and when I made any enquiries. All my questions have been answered fully.
Mam fell and broke her hip in hospital 3 weeks ago. Back to home then back to hospital (breathing problem), returned back to home for palliative care. Passed away 3rd January.
We are very sorry for the passing of your mum and thank you for your lovely review scores at this sad time.
The staff at St Marks cared for my dad as if he were their family. Dad felt safe and happy to be in a home-from-home environment, and his death was calm, comfortable and ultimately peaceful.
Thank you to the manager and all the staff for making Dad's last few days happy ones. I will be forever grateful.
Thank you for your heartfelt review; your kind words will be passed on to the team.
Two weeks of respite has worked out really well and would be happy to come back if necessary.
Thank you for your lovely review and kind words, we will pass these to all our St Marks Court team.
I like it here.

Quite a nice place. Carers are kind and helpful, as are all the staff.
Thank you for your kind words, we will pass these on to all our St Marks Court team.
The food provided was generally unhealthy and lacked variation. St Marks left my father unkept, and unshaven, with hair not combed, and wearing other people’s ill-fitting clothes became too much for the family.
Safeguarding issues were the last straw and my father was removed from the home within a week.
I’d strongly recommend considering alternative residential care.
Thank you for sharing your review as we welcome all feedback for our homes. We are sorry you feel your experience at St Marks Court was not agreeable and are glad these issues were resolved and addressed when raised.
Very friendly approach. On the welcome of my mam, staff, manager and depty were very nice, caring and supportive towards me and my mam. Good size rooms, food very good standard and loads of activities too. I would definitely recommend a stay at st Marks.
Thank you for your lovely review and kind words, your feedback will be passed to the team.
The staff are very caring and friendly.
My dad has said he enjoyed his week here.
Thank you for your wonderful 5-star review; we are very happy to hear your dad enjoyed his stay with us.
Found the staff really friendly and helpful in all areas.
Thank you for your lovely review and kind words that will be passed on to our team.
