Wheatfield Court Care Home is situated in pleasant surroundings in the Westerhope area of Newcastle. It is within easy reach of the Durham Heritage Coast to the North, and the North Yorkshire coast to the South.

The highly committed and dedicated staff at Wheatfield Court work hard to deliver a caring and compassionate service, with a family-orientated approach to their work.

Residents are encouraged to remain physically and mentally active, to the best of their ability and the team works hard to accommodate the needs of all the residents, with a range of activities for them to enjoy in-house. There are also lots of activities available to the residents in the community.

Wheatfield has a wide range of residents, with varying capabilities and needs. Wheatfield Court provides nursing packages that are maintained by an advanced care team for residents with more complex needs. Respite and palliative services are also available.

The staff are very proud of the service they offer and work hard to create respectful relationships and strong bonds with families, visitors and professionals.

I have been here five weeks and I am very happy and I feel very safe. I love the view from my room. The staff, on the whole, are nice.

Over the week of Thursday 12th and 13th both times I had my visit I found the two carers on duty were amazing with my mam. On the 12th, the carer was chatting away to my mam, making her smile and laugh and making her feel like she was the only person in the room who mattered. She was great. On the 13th,
the same girl was on duty along with a male staff member. Both of these carers are younger and they attended to my mum's needs to a high standard. I feel somewhat this report does not give the guys in Wheatfield Court justice in what they do.

After a long time of not being able to get to a residents relations meeting due to Covid, we were greeted with so much enthusiasm for the future, the manager and her staff were upbeat and well organised. The plans for the way forward after this long journey seem really good, the home was clean and tidy
and our relation was looked after. Thanks!

I cannot praise the staff enough for the way she was cared for. She was well-fed, always neat and tidy and very settled. The carers did her nails and hair. She loved the craft room and started knitting again. On the whole, my lovely mam had a great time thanks to the wonderful staff.

I find the staff very helpful and considerate to myself and other members of the family. They generally create a warm and friendly atmosphere. Because of Covid restrictions etc, the online service for booking slots to visit has been down. I believe this is starting up again, this is both helpful to
myself and the staff.

I would tell to friends how good this care home is. I have made friends and met quite nice people. I would recommend this care home to friends and family. The staff are very good. I get on well with them.

My mother has been a resident since November 2019 after becoming unable to stay at home due to illness and needed 24-hour care. I picked Wheatfield Court because local to where I live and work and as I have known other residents that have moved into the Care Home, been really happy and families said
the staff very caring. I know things have been difficult due to the pandemic and a sad time for some and everyone miss seeing their loved ones, but hopefully, that will change and things will get better. I have just started with my family visiting mam again weekly and she is happy, contented and looks 100% better than when she first came to the home. She put on loads of weight and eats well which was not the case when she first arrived. All staff members are helpful, friendly and very caring; mam thinks very highly of them and says is well looked after.

I have been so reassured of the care my aunt receives at Wheatfield Court. The care team treat her like family and there is a great admin team organised by a manager willing to listen and make suggested changes. The peace of mind is assured and I now have no hesitation in recommending Wheatfield to

Please note my options are coloured by a visit in August during lockdown and stem from that visit. Before that, we had not seen my aunt since last March. The reason for the low mark on 'treated with dignity' is while we were there, my aunt needed the toilet for number two - the care staff on duty took
15 minutes to respond, by which time it was all over her and her bedding. Rooms - low/poor as she has been moved twice to a smaller room with no view, from a room with a view. Value for money - we think the fees are very high for the care given. Our aunt eats very little and her needs are simple. She just wants to stay in bed and go and meet her maker. Sad but true.

I have been given first-class treatment and care by all levels of staff. I have gratitude and many reasons for praising their marvellous dedication. I have yet to experience the activities and the facilities. I have no knowledge of the security.

This review is written during the second Covid 19 lockdown. I have never been inside the facilities due to Covid precautions.
Since the middle/late October the staff have facilitated Covid safe visiting via half-hour "window visits" which my mother has enjoyed. Staff have encouraged my mother to participate
in communal activities. She has also taken to knitting which she can do "solo" in her room.
The staff have also facilitated FaceTime sessions for my mother with family members who are not local, which has been a great success and has helped with settling my mother.
From what I have been able to observe from window visits cleanliness is very good. New flooring has recently been installed in main areas of the home with plans to extend into bedrooms as and when able. Rooms are kept warm.
Staff respond in a timely fashion to queries/issues raised and liaise with relevant family members.

My wife was in the Eden Court rehabilitation section of Wheatfield Court. This Akari/NHS facility proved perfect for the recovery from major, open heart surgery at the hospital. The staff were so cheerful and friendly. The food was absolutely excellent and essential to build up strength. I feel we were
so lucky to have access to a facility that combined the best in personal care, food and activities, with medical and physio provided by the NHS.

My husband was admitted to Wheatfield Court at the end of September. He was there for 6 days before being admitted into hospital where he remained for a week. He then returned to Wheatfield Court for end of life care and died 2 days later on October 4th. The care he had was amazing even though it was
not for long - the family were also cared for by all staff, we felt as though they were our friends. I cannot praise them enough - all so well run too.

My darling mum has been a resident for 4 years and during this time, she has become immobile, not being able to stand up from her wheelchair or use the hoist and her dementia has advanced.
As an ex-nurse, I found this very difficult, however, the staff at Wheatfield Court have been really helpful understanding
when I got upset and they treat mum very well.
I know she is safe and well cared for which is very reassuring.

I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of care and the food in Eden Court. It combines excellent NHS rehab (after major surgery) with excellent Akari personel care. The staff all have a very cheerful disposition, which is a real help.
