Overall Experience

My mum became a permanent resident at Wheatfield Court Care Home in October 2022. All the staff in this care home are all very pleasant, caring and very approachable. My mum is happy and and it makes life easier when you know that, she is being well cared for, she mostly joins in with the other residents, her friends, in the activities but has her own space when she wants it. The local area is nice to be able to take her out to, weather permitting. I feel we are very lucky to be given a place here for her. Thank you to the whole team for taking care of her.

Many meetings about the care of my mum and concerns, a serious complaint was made in October 2021 regarding an agency nurse, as the local team were very good. After many reminders regarding this complaint, telephone calls, emails etc, we were assured all this was in hand by the manager of this home.

Reply from Francesca MacDuff-Varley, Marketing Manager at Wheatfield Court

Thank you for taking the time to review us and for your positive feedback about our in-house care team. Wheatfield Court has a new manager who is looking forward to continuing the high level of care in our home. Your complaint has been fully investigated in line with our procedures and the agency in question informed.

My mum was admitted to the Eden Court floor of Wheatfield Court on 2nd Oct, she subsequently moved down to Wheatfield when her health deteriorated. I'm very happy with the care mum received and the support our family was given. The service is short of full-time permanent staff like most in the Health and Social Care sector, however, the staff worked extremely hard to supply our mum with the best care possible. My mum passed away in the early hours of the morning of 3rd December but I feel I need to take time to say thank you to all staff involved in mums care over the last two months, yesterday and the early hours were obviously distressing for my family, the staff did there very best to make mums last hours comfortable and to support the family through this time, Thank you again to all the staff with a special thank you to the lady who supported myself and cared for mum on the night shift last night.

I advise anyone thinking of putting a loved one in this facility not to. My mother spent 24 hours in this place and the staff can not care for the very basic of needs of their residents. A patient waited over 45 min for the toilet, the place should be shut down and the staff need to be sacked. My opinion of this place is absolutely disgraceful. Don't use this care home if you want a loved one taken care of. They are not what they seem.

Reply from Francesca MacDuff-Varley, Marketing Manager at Wheatfield Court

Thank you for your review. We are sorry you feel your experience was not on a level you expected from us, however, we are pleased to say that many of our residents (and families) are very happy with the care at our home. We wish you and your mother all the best in the future.

My mam was brought to Wheatfield Court a few weeks ago, and all the staff have treated my mam with care, as well as being very honest and caring with us family members. My mam was in palliative care during her stay. Thank you to all the staff who cared for her and us every day we visited.

Over the week of Thursday 12th and 13th both times I had my visit I found the two carers on duty were amazing with my mam. On the 12th, the carer was chatting away to my mam, making her smile and laugh and making her feel like she was the only person in the room who mattered. She was great. On the 13th, the same girl was on duty along with a male staff member. Both of these carers are younger and they attended to my mum's needs to a high standard. I feel somewhat this report does not give the guys in Wheatfield Court justice in what they do.

After a long time of not being able to get to a residents relations meeting due to Covid, we were greeted with so much enthusiasm for the future, the manager and her staff were upbeat and well organised. The plans for the way forward after this long journey seem really good, the home was clean and tidy and our relation was looked after. Thanks!

I cannot praise the staff enough for the way she was cared for. She was well-fed, always neat and tidy and very settled. The carers did her nails and hair. She loved the craft room and started knitting again. On the whole, my lovely mam had a great time thanks to the wonderful staff.

I find the staff very helpful and considerate to myself and other members of the family. They generally create a warm and friendly atmosphere. Because of Covid restrictions etc, the online service for booking slots to visit has been down. I believe this is starting up again, this is both helpful to myself and the staff.

My mother has been a resident since November 2019 after becoming unable to stay at home due to illness and needed 24-hour care. I picked Wheatfield Court because local to where I live and work and as I have known other residents that have moved into the Care Home, been really happy and families said the staff very caring. I know things have been difficult due to the pandemic and a sad time for some and everyone miss seeing their loved ones, but hopefully, that will change and things will get better. I have just started with my family visiting mam again weekly and she is happy, contented and looks 100% better than when she first came to the home. She put on loads of weight and eats well which was not the case when she first arrived. All staff members are helpful, friendly and very caring; mam thinks very highly of them and says is well looked after.

I have been so reassured of the care my aunt receives at Wheatfield Court. The care team treat her like family and there is a great admin team organised by a manager willing to listen and make suggested changes. The peace of mind is assured and I now have no hesitation in recommending Wheatfield to others.

Overall Experience

Please note my options are coloured by a visit in August during lockdown and stem from that visit. Before that, we had not seen my aunt since last March. The reason for the low mark on 'treated with dignity' is while we were there, my aunt needed the toilet for number two - the care staff on duty took 15 minutes to respond, by which time it was all over her and her bedding. Rooms - low/poor as she has been moved twice to a smaller room with no view, from a room with a view. Value for money - we think the fees are very high for the care given. Our aunt eats very little and her needs are simple. She just wants to stay in bed and go and meet her maker. Sad but true.
