A relative has been in care for a number of months and always appears really well, staff are happy and caring doing the hair of my relative. Care home looks clean and tidy, great reports from designated visitors - such a relief knowing the resident is happy, safe and well looked after.

My gran has been a resident at The Laurels Care Home Since the end of October. I thought it would’ve been the hardest thing to do to move her out of her lovely home but she had a few falls in the house and we knew that it was the safest thing for us all. The staff at The Laurels have done nothing but make my gran feel so welcome and cared for. My grandmother is 101-years-old and obviously a set in her ways. All the staff at The Laurels have gone out of their way and beyond to adapt to her needs and make her feel as loved as we love her. Obviously, because of Covid we haven’t been able to see Gran since Christmas Day and it’s heartbreaking but the manager has been videoing calling me so I can see my gran and the manager said to me today her face lights up when she sees me it’s priceless. Thank you The Laurels for everything you have done and continue to do for my gran.

I can't really comment at this present time because I have hardly seen my mother at present times because of this virus. When I do see her she looks as well as can be expected so I am pleased at the way she is being looked after. The staff I see seem to be happy and polite in these difficult times.

We brought Dad to The Laurels and were informed of what happens, ie. how he will be looked after etc.

The first impression was really good. Staff are very friendly and approachable, we felt Dad was in the right place with everything that he would need. Room was very clean with no smells, which was very important to us. We feel we have nothing to worry about when we leave Dad after visiting him, knowing he is getting 100% care and attention.

Overall Experience
My mother has been a resident for the last two and a half years. Carers are great, kind and hard-working always rushing around as sometimes staff levels fall short. Activities are zero - none whatsoever, they have an activity member of staff that does no activities whatsoever. Waste of a wage and manageress of the home knows that there is a lack of stimulation for residents which is not acceptable.

Food is satisfactory but not much of it - small portions. Senior care staff downstairs are not approachable and have no empathy, especially senior carer and nurse who is very abrupt to residents and family members. Any complaints to the manager are never listened too or dealt with in an appropriate way. But must say the carers in The Laurels look after residents to the best of their ability.

My mother came to live here in January 2019 following a long stay in hospital. It is the first time in a care home. She has settled in lovely thanks to the care and support of all staff and I would highly recommend the home. She is very happy here and has made a few friends. There is always someone on hand to provide reassurance to residents' family and friends and we are always welcomed at any time.

I have found all the staff very friendly and caring. Health problems have been quickly spotted and dealt with. My aunt is always well dressed and clean. Extra time is taken to varnish her nails etc, as this is something she enjoys. Her clothes are beautifully laundered and stored. Having taken a long time to settle and mix, she now feels secure and contented. It doesn't 'smell' like an old peoples care home.

I come to visit my gran most days. I am made very welcome at all times. My gran is settling very well being a newbie to the care home.
To be super critical, I would like to see a relatives and visitors area to make tea, coffee etc.

I have marked satisfactory for food and drinks only because my gran is missing her favourite foods and I am bringing them in for her.

My mum was in for respite care while my father had an operation. We were unsure as to the time scale for mums care but this was not a problem. The Laurels extended mums care at very short notice. Thank you to all the team, would definitely use again.

My husband went into The Laurels and is still there. The home is fantastic, he is really cared for and the staff are all brilliant and I can't speak more highly about them.

The food is good and the amount of entertainment on special dates is brilliant.

Emma is a qualified registered general nurse with over 21 years of experience. First working in the NHS and climbing her way to up to becoming a senior critical care nurse for 16 years. Emma’s career has continued to progress, with a focus on the social care sector, Emma has gone from clinical lead to deputy manager and now Home Manager.

Outside of work, Emma considers one of her biggest achievements to be raising her daughter, who she takes immense pride in.

Some words of encouragement from Emma for someone looking for the right care home would be to look for passionate staff who provide the best possible care and are proud of the home they work in.

For those considering care as a career, Emma advises to treat the residents in your care as family and to offer compassion, patience and hard work.
