Hello, my name is Kim, and I am the General Manager here at Newlands.

I have worked for Barchester since January 2019. I relocated here to Workington from County Durham. I have been a registered nurse since 1982, and I have worked predominantly in the social sector in nursing and care homes. I have a special interest in working with people who are living with dementia.

Here at Newlands, we endeavour to enhance the lives of all of our residents. We are proud of the care we offer and would be delighted to show you around our home.

Lisa joined the Barchester team in May 2021 as a Registered Nurse, then was promoted to Clinical Lead, then Deputy Manager in 2023. She has more than 10 years’ experience in the care sector and has a wide range of experience in both nursing and leadership roles. Hi, my name is Hannah, and I am the Home Administrator at Newlands. I began working in care homes in Edinburgh as a receptionist and soon developed into a business administrator. Upon moving back to Workington in February, I was fortunate to find the same position available here at Newlands. Having worked as a home administrator for over 4 years, I am here to help with any queries you may have about looking for care, as well as maintaining the administrative day-to-day of the home. Read less

My name is Denzy, and I am a Registered Nurse trained in my home country of Cameroon. I moved to the UK in July 2022 and continued my nursing practice here at Newlands Care Centre. The staff were very welcoming, and that eased my transition into work and life in this country. So far, it has been a great experience with massive improvements in my clinical knowledge and skills, leading to my promotion as Clinical Lead at Newlands.

Nyoni Hla, our passionate Head of Activities, has a passion for bringing people together. She creates meaningful, engaging, and fun experiences tailored to suit the residents’ interests and abilities. I started working at Newlands in 2023. I enjoy connecting with staff, residents and their families. I work with a great team that supports and makes my work fun. During my spare time, I like to macramé or do some weaving. I like spending time with my family. I am still trying to get used to the Cumbrian weather. Read less

With 29 years of experience in the kitchen and a genuine love of cooking, Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and creativity to his new role. Inspired by his father, who first sparked his interest in becoming a chef, Matthew enjoys preparing a wide variety of dishes, from French and Spanish to Indian and traditional English favourites.

Outside work, Matthew enjoys life with his partner, Elaine, their beloved Springer Spaniel, Rox, and their African Grey parrot, Dolly. I enjoy my job. Read less

All my cooking is self-taught. I started as a Healthy Eating Practitioner in a nursery, making nutritious meals for children, before joining Barchester in 2024 as a Kitchen Assistant. I worked my way up from there, starting as a Second Chef, before joining the Barchester Chef Academy to further advance my skills. I love baking especially, and I love putting my twist on meals to make them more interesting and delicious for our residents.

During my spare time, I like to bake and spend time with family or my work friends. Read less

I started working at Newlands in 2016 as a care assistant on the Lakelands unit. In summer 2019, I completed my NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care. In December 2019, I was given the opportunity to enrol on the care practitioner course through Barchester and completed my course in 2020 during COVID. In 2024, I took on the acting head of unit role for the Lakeland unit whilst I was completing my NVQ Level 5 in Leadership & Management, which I completed in August 2025 and took on the full-time role of Head of Unit. Read less

My name is Lee, and I am the Head of Maintenance here at Newlands. I have worked with Barchester since 2017 and thoroughly enjoy my role here at Newlands. I carry out a wide range of tasks that all contribute towards the residents’ safety. Whilst working around the home, I get to spend time catching up with the residents and their loved ones, which is a really enjoyable part of working at Newlands.

In my spare time, I am a keen football fan following Newcastle United. I am a keen walker and enjoy my Mountain bike. Read less

Chisom is a compassionate nurse trained in the Philippines and licensed to practise in both Nigeria and the UK. She began her nursing career in Nigeria before joining Barchester Healthcare in the UK. Since joining Newlands in February 2024, she has enjoyed caring for older residents, including those living with dementia. She is passionate about person-centred care, preserving dignity, and creating a safe, welcoming environment for residents and their families.

Hello, my name is Steph. I am the Admin Assistant here at Newlands. I have worked in the care industry for 11 years now. I have worked as a carer and a cook before joining this lovely family. I started working here at Newlands Care Centre in November 2023 as the Assistant Administrator. I am the first person you will probably see when you open the door to our home. I am always happy to meet you or chat to you on the phone about what our home has to offer.

I started my journey at Newlands as a Care Assistant, and following my review in June, I was delighted to be promoted to Senior Carer. I absolutely love working at Newlands because I believe I make a positive difference to the lives of our residents, their families and my colleagues. I take pride in helping to create a caring, supportive and happy environment where everyone feels valued.

John is proud to be part of the Newlands family, where being Resident Ambassador brings him great joy, purpose and fulfilment. Every morning, he visits fellow residents to check how they are doing, share a friendly chat and brighten their day with a smile or a laugh.
