My friend was transferred for nursing care from a previous care home that couldn't cater for his health needs. His health has improved to such an extent in the hands of the excellent nursing staff at Hollie Hill, that he feels confident to return home now. What he does not realise, however, is that
he'll no longer get a cooked breakfast and 3-course lunch if he were to go home, even with home carers! Hollie Hill staff are friendly and caring. I find it quite relaxing when I go to visit and am able to make us both a cuppa in the little kitchen there. Many thanks Hollie Hill for doing an excellent job!

Mam was given a place at Hollie Hill after a worrying hospital stay, and it couldn't have worked out better. Not only did she get good care, she thrived there.
Another review mentioned the food, and from what we saw it was good, but also frequent, to the point where Mam gained all the weight lost
in hospital and more!
She found a new community, with the staff being caring, supportive and encouraging, and an activity programme with plenty to do if people choose. Bingo, arts/crafts, Owl sanctuary visits, cocktails/pool party in the garden are just some of the things Mam took part in, and residents had trips out to the coast etc.
As a very sociable lady, Mam had a wonderful time at Hollie Hill; we couldn't have hoped for better.
Reply from Jack Pollard, Administrative Sales & Marketing Support at Hollie Hill Care HomeThank you John for your positive feedback towards Hollie Hill Care Home. Mum has been a resident on the nursing wing for a couple of months now. The care and respect shown to her by all staff is brilliant. Any suggestions made by myself and other family members are considered and tried and it feels that nothing is too much trouble.

Although mum is not very outgoing, the

staff all try to get her involved in any activities which are going on, rather than letting her stagnate in her room, again much appreciated by the rest of the family as we can not be with her all the time.

Mum has been particularly impressed with the speed and efficiency of the laundry service. This may not resonate with many, but mum has always been smartly dressed and having clean pressed clothes is important to her.

Reply from Louise Porter, Reviews Team at Hollie Hill Care HomeThank you for sharing your experience. We are delighted to hear that your mum is receiving such brilliant care and respect from our trustworthy staff. We appreciate your feedback, we will continue to support her involvement in activities while maintaining the quality of service she values.

My mam has lived in Holly Hill for just over a year. She's very happy and content. She admits she eats far too much because the food is delicious, she is very happy with all the staff, and often goes out for trips. Her room is small, but all her own pictures are on the walls, and she feels at home.
This makes me feel very happy knowing she is loved and looked after.

As a physiotherapist working for 30 years with the NHS, I have seen the consequences of prolonged bed rest involving the elderly. Skin breakdown—especially over pressure areas, and low mood are common. With these issues in mind, I want to congratulate Michelle and her fabulous team for their exemplary
care. After 3 months of continuous bed rest, my mother-in-law is in excellent spirits due to the kindness and interaction of staff. Furthermore, her skin is in perfect condition due to first class care. Big thanks to the cleaners, too. You are all outstanding! Thank you

Everyone at the care home cares so much about the residents, looking after them very well. My mam really enjoys being a resident at Hollie Hill, and I am happy as I have no worries over her care. The activities provided have really improved over the last few months with a new coordinator in charge.
I feel it is very important that the residents need/get stimulation.

Compared to other homes we viewed, Hollie Hill is head and shoulders above the others we were offered. Staff are attentive and caring. The room is clean and well maintained, food is well cooked and presented. So far, we are very satisfied with mother's care.

Happy with care & support. Visitors always made welcome (cup of tea when needed). Could do with new cups, cutlery, wheelchair etc chairs - visitors. More choices for patients unable to eat food (processed only). Maintenance man excellent for any problems. Would recommend to family & friends.

This care home I would recommend as being the best care home in Stanley. All the staff are excellent on the clinical section, both day and night staff. There should be more chairs in each room for visitors/family members. When patients are being treated and the doors are closed, chairs in hall way would
be helpful. Meals could be hotter when served. A swimming pool would be nice or the use of one to assist in exercise movement. It would be nice if management would introduce themselves to patients individually.

Staff are all very kind and caring. My dad has not been in long, but I can tell straight away that the staff will look after him and treat him with care and dignity.
They spoke so lovely to my dad, I was close to tears.
The room is lovely with a beautiful view of the garden. There is also a kitchen
for family members to use. This was an excellent idea.

The manageresses of the section I was in were very good, helpful, they sorted any issues I had quickly and efficiently.
The care assistants were excellent and very friendly and helpful, couldn't do enough for me. They were always available when needed both the dayshift and evening staff were very good.
I wasn't given any choice of food that I could have, with being on a special diet. More choices should be available.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.644)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.644) out of 10 for Hollie Hill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 16 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.769 for Hollie Hill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (148 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 186 Ratings = 4.769
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hollie Hill Care Home is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
