Jack Dormand Care Home, situated just off the coast in the town of Peterlee, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential, nursing and nursing dementia care.

The home offers a comfortable environment for all residents with many living areas overlooking the coast. The onsite hair salon, wellbeing programme and lovely garden are a favourite amongst the residents.

My mum is a resident at Jack Dormand Care Home and has been there for just under a year. It is her new home and she has settled really well. Nothing at all is a bother to the staff. If mum wants an ice-cream they take her to the shop. If she doesn't fancy her dinner, then they will get her something
else. Her hair is done every week and she can have as many baths as she wants. She loves the staff but what is more important the staff really love her too.

My father is very happy where he is living. Loves the staff, loves the food and everything about the care home.

Caring, helpful staff who did all they could to make my mother comfortable. Nice room, always warm and cosy. It was nice to be able to put pictures and personal items around the place, to make mam feel at home.

Mam moved into Jack Dormand Care Home in November 2016. The care she receives is excellent. She has some challenging behaviours that the care staff are always supportive, patient and caring. Any issues are handled immediately and resolved. I would recommend the home to friends and family for their relatives.

My dad was a resident in the Jack Dormand Care Home from April 2016 - Sept 2016.
I found every aspect of the care home exceptional, including cleanliness, support, food, care, time given to dad and the dignity and respect shown.
The management and care team were the most caring and personable people
I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Jack Dormand Care Home.

We find the staff very friendly, helpful and extremely good at their jobs. They take the time to not only get to know the residents but to get to know their families as well. The activities for the residents are varied and well organised.

The staff have helped settle my mam into the care home and have taken on board what are her likes and dislikes. They genuinely do care about all of the residents. Nothing is too much trouble and if my mam needs anything the carers and nurses are quick to source it.

of the home is excellent and something my mam really enjoys as do the family who join in.

Very special care given to very special people!


My brother and I were extremely happy with the care offered by the staff at Jack Dormand. Even after mam's death they continued to support the family by enabling a relative/resident of the same care home to attend mam's funeral in the care home's minibus.

After suffering a serious stroke my brother was eventually admitted to Jack Dormand Care Home. He had been awarded a British Empire Medal but due to him now being in a wheelchair was unable to collect it - however the home management completely took charge of the situation and arranged (with help from
his daughter and son) to have her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant present the "BEM" to my brother at the home. We actually live in Australia and the original date for the ceremony was going to be the 30th August but the manager of the home arranged for this to be brought forward to the 12th so that we could attend the home, not only sorted everything out - they also paid for a magnificent buffet, champagne, cake, flowers, invitations, a solo singer, photographer, unveiling of a mural by a local young lady. A truly wonderful afternoon for everyone concerned. I go home to Australia in the knowledge that my brother is in caring and competent hands. Thank you to all concerned.

My father had a very dense stroke back in February 2016. He was admitted to hospital but didn't improve. He came here in July. The home and staff are the best thing that happened to my father and my family. All staff care excellent for him and the home is always clean and tidy. Nothing is a problem
to them and the manager has sorted everything immediately. We don't have to worry about him as he is cared for excellently.

Marie Shillaw

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2014

“For me, kindness means treating everyone you come into contact with equally and with respect and dignity.”


Marie has gained over 25 years’ experience in providing care and support for older people to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest possible standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Marie joined Jack Dormand as Home Manager as she closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She uses her experience to motivate her team to deliver care and support in a way that Residents gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby organisations and is always quick to welcome the local community to Jack Dormand.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Marie remarked: “I just love having the opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of our Residents.”


Outside of work, Marie enjoys swimming and spending time with her family.
