My Dad has recently became a resident at south quay.
He's settled in so well with the help from the amazing staff here.
They are all lovely nothings a problem for them.
Dads made friends with the staff and defo had his favourites already.
Entertainment here is great always something for the residents to do keeping them up beat.

Thanks south quay for making this my Dads happy home x

I cannot thank the wonderful team at South Quay Care Hone enough for the incredible respite care they are providing for my grandma. From my very first enquiry, the manager was exceptionally helpful, providing me with a wealth of information that set very clear and reassuring expectations for her stay.

What stood out the most was their efficiency. The team showed an incredible attention to detail, identifying potential risks and prioritizing her care needs within an amazingly short timeframe. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, which gave me and the family total peace of mind. Thank you all for your professionalism and warmth!

Thank you so much for your kind words. This was a very brief admission but she showed us her cheeky side and made the staff love her as soon as they met her.

Such a character who will be sorely missed. I will pass your comments to the staff thank you so much and I'm glad we were able to make her last days comfortable.

My Dad came to South Quay for respite first and we couldn't believe how caring and supportive they were in settling Dad (who has Dementia). Dad is now a resident and I can honestly say the whole team are fantastic in meeting his needs and supporting our family. Food is very much old school just what he likes especially the puddings. Entertainment and activities are brilliant, I've even joined my Dad in having a dance and sing along ! There are some individual staff who go above and beyond for my Dad..I just can't name them here. We call here Dad's Happy Home ;)

Great staff, caring and compassionate. Very impressed with the level of care provided, my sister is settled and happy. I respected the staff answering questions honestly. They had great knowledge of my sister and her individual needs. I feel confident my sister is safe, well looked after and she seemed very happy when I visited. Keep up the amazing work.

The staff at the care home have been exceptional during this difficult family time. It was my mothers 80th birthday in February and I spoke to management to say I was concerned through absence (holidays) and other family members ill health that the birthday may not be the celebration we/she would like. They went over and beyond in my eyes what they needed to do and she has the most wonderful birthday. They listen, care and proactive and that's all I can ask.

Reply from Charlotte Shiels, Manager at South Quay Care Home

It was a pleasure to spend her birthday with her she had an amazing day and the residents she chose to go out with her enjoyed it just as much she did. I will pass your comments on to the staff team.

My Mam was a resident at South Quay for just under 4 years.
Her room wasn't very big but more than adequate for her needs.
As her illness progressed and she stopped recognising family she always had a big smile for the staff who we found to be friendly and approachable.
When the end came everyone was so kind and the dignity shown to Mam was much appreciated.

Thank you

I have just finished my two weeks respite at South Quay Carehome and I was appalled by the service provided. I am a C3/C4 spinal patient and I required some respite and one incident while I was there caused me to suffer an AD due to lack of due diligence. Another thing I would like to state was the lack of information about my condition was passed onto the members of staff so did not know how to provide the correct care that I require I.E moving and handling I needed but they all tried their best with instructions from myself. The bed care was atrocious, the menu was mostly cafe style food which included pastries and puddings was not ideal for a diabetic.

All in all a let down. I was offered another week due to the room I was in being free still but however I would not stay there again. My advice stay clear.

This is a lovely care centre: the staff are wonderful people. They all seem to love their jobs - it's a vocation. They show care, understanding, empathy and love.
Nothing is a trouble to any of them, and everyone makes eye contact when talking to you. They smile and are happy as they go about their routines. It is a cheery, clean, and welcoming abode for anyone who needs it.

The staff pay constant attention to all clients, visitors and family.

I am absolutely over the moon with the care my dad gets and cant believe how quickly he has settled in the staff are super friendly and seems like nothing is a bother no matter how big or small they are always on hand and they keep us well informed about his care and his needs it was the best decision we ever made and it has enabled me to relax it has also took an unreal amount of pressure off our family knowing he is happy here

Mam Mam lived in this home from April 2023 until she passed away at the end of September. I always found it friendly and inviting. The staff were great and took time to get to know Mam and understand what she liked and didn't like. There was always something going on which she loved. The place was always clean and warm and there was never any bad smells which i worried about before she went in. There was a sense of family in the home which i found comforting and i am confident she was always well cared for, valued and safe.

My mother-in-law lived in the home for well over 2 years. She loved it there and i always felt she was loved, well cared for and safe. She enjoyed the outings and activities and made lots of friends. The staff are great - they have fun with the residents but are professional and are great at understanding the residents and their families. The place has a welcoming feel, rooms and communal areas are clean and well kept and seem very suited to the needs of those who live there. My wife found the management team very responsive and she often commented she felt that they were in partnership for her mother's care. I would have no hesitation recommending South Quay to anyone looking for a great place for someone they love.

Mam lived at South Quay for two and a half years and loved it. She felt safe, cared for and loved. From the minute we first walked in it felt warm, friendly and secure.During her stay all staff were amazing. Always on hand to help and support her, have a laugh with her or just chat or spend time - she loved the outings. The team formed a partnership with the family so that Mam's best interests were always front of mind and their care and compassion shone through - they had an instinct for knowing when something wasn't quite right and involved us throughout. When we brought her home from hospital on palliative care they were devastated but were professional and caring, going above and beyond to ensure her care was exemplary. They supported the whole family through this process and are continuing to support us now even though Mam has passed. The building is clean and well maintained, its not the Ritz but its homely and residents feel like family. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. My husband was ony in for a short while as he was very poorly and not expected to live much longer. The staff kept me informed every day and telephoned when I wasn't there. My husband's room was very basic but was perfect for his needs. They were decorating everywhere while he was in there so looked very clean and fresh there seemed to be a lot of activities on but my husband couldn't get out of bed but they opened windows so he could hear the singing. Sorry can't comment on the food as he didn't really eat before he went in there. Thank you to all the staff they do an amazing jo.

My mum moved into South Quay just before Easter having been diagnosed with terminal cancer in February. We kept mum at home as long as we could but there came a point when we had to accept we couldn't provide the care she needed. It was with trepidation that I first went it to have a look around. I always believed we would be able to look after Mum and it was really difficult to hand her care over to strangers. Right from the start the staff were so warm and welcoming and mum hit it off with several staff and she felt happy to be there. The staff were amazing, always accommodating to mum and to us when we visited. Mum made friends with staff and residents and we visited every day. As mum deteriorated the staff stepped up and were just amazing. I have always felt they genuinely care for their residents and they treated my mum with the utmost respect right up to and after she passed away. I can not thank them enough for their care and kindness throughout her time with them

Reply from Vicki Rees, Regional Operations Manager at South Quay Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to complete a care home review. It is hard decision to move a loved one into a care home and entrusting the care of a loved one into the hands of strangers. The staff strive to make a difference daily to all residents in the home and it was a pleasure and an honour...

My mam was moved here from the palliative care unit a WANSBECK hospital but sadly was only at South Quay home for 4 weeks before she passed away. Mam was looked after by the manager and staff and nothing was to much bother for them and they were very friendly towards mam and my family . They attended to every need of her with kindness and dignity and went beyond the call of duty to look after her in her last days and kept us informed of everything. We appreciate everything that you did for her to make her last few weeks as comfortable as possible.
