My wife was a resident at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for 2 years. She had a severe stroke and was transferred from the hospital to the home on the 15th of April 2021. I cannot speak too highly of the care and support my wife receives. The staff have been wonderful in every respect. I would recommend Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home to everyone.

My mother was in Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for five weeks (until her death). She was extremely frail and very difficult. They coped with her very well. She was happier when left alone and they intervened as little as possible only giving care when necessary. They dealt with her passing extremely professionally. We were completely happy with her care.

My mother was transferred to Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home on the 20th of January, although it was sadly only for a short time I have nothing but admiration for the staff at the home who was an absolute credit to you. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The care and compassion for my mum and the family were second to none. We as a large family all agreed the staff went above and beyond for each of us and even when our mum sadly passed they conducted everything with dignity and were very supportive of the family. A few days after Mum's passing we felt we needed to go and personally thank them which we did.

Thank you staff at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home, you are forever in our thoughts.

I just wanted to say a personal thanks for all the efforts of the team in supporting the spouse during a recent bereavement and going the extra mile in putting a plan in place to facilitate her attendance at the funeral. Whilst she didn't understand all of the time due to her dementia diagnosis she did at times and it was fitting that she was there to sing Arglwydd Dyma Fi a hymn of her choice with tears in her eyes. The staff supporting her were professional and calm at all times. Other thanks to the home and chef for agreeing to host the afternoon tea so that she could attend and share many fond memories with people in a relaxed and supportive way in surroundings that were familiar to her.

My wife and I wanted to take the opportunity to express our thanks to all of the staff at Plas y Dderwen. My father is 82 and, sadly, now in need of professional care.
Every time we have visited, we have found the facility to be very clean and tidy - there is none of the odour often associated with nursing homes - it smells lovely in there! The staff are friendly and seem very happy to be working there - we always get a smile and a hello.
More importantly, the residents are clearly well loved and cared for. I took the time to speak to one unsuspecting resident and asked him how things really are - without hesitation, he replied "I love it here - all the staff are wonderful"

We have lived in the USA for 18 years now and have found it difficult to see how his condition has slowly taken its toll. It is however of huge comfort to us that he is being looked after by such a compassionate and caring group of professionals. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My dad sadly passed away on Thursday, November 17th. On behalf of my family, I couldn't find a thank you card big enough to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the manager and her staff. They always showed dedication and enthusiasm in caring for Dad. The support and empathy given not only to Dad over the last few weeks but to us all as a family.

It was always lovely to see staff smiling while carrying out their duties. It means so much to the residents and visitors who were always welcomed with a smile and greeting; it makes for a lovely, caring, homely atmosphere. Our sincere thanks and congratulations to the dedicated manager and her wonderful staff. Excellent manager.

After worrying about my mother going into care my fears disappeared very quickly. The staff were welcoming, dedicated and professional. They made time to discover the person behind the complex care needs and it was obvious that my mother became very fond of them. Her room and all other facilities were well-maintained and clean. The staff took pride in their work. They catered to her changing needs with regard to feeding and personal care, taking the time to ensure her comfort at all times.

There was a feeling of well-being there and as visitors, we were also offered refreshments and counsel. When she came to the end of her life they supported us every step of the way. It was apparent that they too were preparing for a loss. I cannot speak highly enough about them and will be forever grateful for their friendship, care and support.

On behalf of all my family who lives abroad, I want to thank wholeheartedly each and every one of the staff and management team at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for their kindest support. Unexpectedly, my mum became very ill last year and we were fortunate enough to find a placement for her at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home. Just a few months later, my dad also got ill, and he was admitted to Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home. Both of my parents were able to be together until the end in the most comfortable and dignifying conditions thanks to the arrangements that everyone at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home offered to them as residents and to us as their family. Mum passed away recently, and dad continues without her for a little longer. None of this could have been possible without Plas-y-Dderwen help. Our gratitude is infinite.

I can’t speak highly enough of Plas Y Dderwen. The care and love shown to my grandfather has been outstanding. He has been very happy here. The care staff and nurses know exactly how to handle his dementia and work with him so that he feels settled and supported. Two (nurses) in particular have been amazing with him but also with us as a family as well. My grandfather has been shown dignity and respect at all times and I couldn’t be happier with the care he has received here. We had an awful experience with a previous care home and as soon as my grandfather came here all challenging behaviours stopped which speaks for itself. I will always be grateful for the way they have treated him like family.

Reply from Ben Stevenson, Activities coordinator at Barchester Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home

Your grandfather was a very special man that had a kind word for everyone around him. I wish that the pandemic hadn't stopped us from taking him to one more Swansea FC game but we have such fond memories of his time with us.

Although unfortunately, my father passed away in January this year the 18 months he was a resident at Barchester Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home were some of the happiest times for him and also the family. We visited a different care home when we were looking for somewhere for Mom and we left in tears as I couldn't imagine her there. When we went to view Barchester Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home we thought we had gone to the wrong address. It was more like entering a posh hotel and instantly we felt that Mom would be happy there. We have not been disappointed. It is always clean and tidy when we go and the staff are always very welcoming. Mom is very happy there and takes part in the activities, it is like she has a new lease of life. Can't fault the staff, they have so much respect for the residents.

My mother became a resident in February 2017 and spent three happy years there. She suffered with severe memory problems and could not recognise her family members. During Covid-19 we were unable to visit very much and the care staff became her family. The staff cared for her throughout with kindness and compassion. In January 2021 she was able to celebrate her 100th birthday and due to lockdown, the whole family was able to see her using modern technology including the card from the Queen and a special cake organised by the Home. This turned out to be the last time most family actually saw her as she sadly died in January. We have lovely memories of her time at Plas-y-Dderwen and were always warmly welcomed when we visited.

Hello, my name is Sophie and I have been a Volunteer here for almost 10 years. I visit 3 days a week, spending time chatting with the residents, getting to know them, playing board games, and engaging in various activities. I find great joy in making people smile and creating meaningful connections with residents.
