My mom was in Barchester Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for respite for two weeks. She was very apprehensive about going but was immediately put at ease by the friendly welcome from staff. She made friends and enjoyed taking part in the activities on offer. She smiled and laughed a lot more whilst she was there and felt reassured that she had people around her who were very caring and thoughtful. My mother has been a resident since January and suffers from Alzheimer's. The decision to place my mother in a care home was an extremely difficult one for my father and I. We initially met with the manager who instantly put our minds at ease with her kind, caring and outgoing nature. Over the last 3 months, my mother's care has been exemplary and I can see that she's safe, happy and well cared for. My mother had lost an unhealthy amount of weight over the last few years but since being at PYD, she's gained weight, thank you Chef! My mother has always been outgoing with a wicked sense of humour and it's plain to see that the staff have become fond of her and her of them. The activities team (in pink) are everyone's favourites. Their enthusiasm is infectious and it's wonderful to see them interacting with the residents. They quickly learned that my mother is a big Elvis fan and placed Elvis posters in her room, which she loves! They also include families in everything they do. Thanks!

My father has been a resident for over a year, suffers from Parkinson's and dementia, and is heavily reliant on the staff for his day-to-day needs, including personal hygiene, etc. Last week, we took him to his dentist for his annual check-up and his first since being a resident of the home. One lady was already aware of the appointment and ensured he was ready and his teeth brushed in plenty of time. During his check-up, the dentist commented on how Dad's teeth were in excellent condition and was obviously being cared for extremely well by the care home staff and was probably the best he had ever seen from a care home resident. As a family who have trusted my father in the care of the home, this was again very reassuring and evidence of the good care Dad receives. Thanks to you to one particular lady and to all the carers who do their best in often difficult and under-resourced working conditions.

I am a nurse who came to work at Plas Y Dderwen eleven years ago. I had previously worked for the NHS for 30+ years as a psychiatric nurse. I work nights on Teifi unit and love my job. I have met the most amazing people during my time here and consider it a privilege to care for people living their journey through dementia and its challenges. The staff I work with are well trained and experienced in delivering a high standard of individualised care. The home is a friendly comfortable environment with plenty of trips and activities going on. The management are very supportive of all the staff and their various needs.
