My father was a resident at Plas-y-Dderwen for 11 weeks. During that short time, he was cared for by the staff of the Teifi Unit with respect and dignity, especially during his final days. The staff also cared for his family with compassion and empathy during the time he was a resident. I cannot express
enough our sincere thanks a gratitude to all the staff at Plas-y-Dderwen.

My father had been a resident at Barchester Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for ten weeks. During the time Dad was in the home, I found staff to be attentive and caring and they would immediately address any issues of concern identified. Dad was poorly and cared for by staff, led by an experienced lead nurse
on Tywi ward.
As a family, we visited a number of care homes prior to placing Dad at Plas-y-Dderwen. We found the Barchester Care Homes to be far superior to other local homes we visited in terms of cleanliness, retention of staff and approachability and openness to answer queries.
Towards the end of Dad’s life, staff were so kind to myself and my immediate family as we expressed the wish to be with Dad and they ensured we were fed and offered refreshments. The nursing staff explained processes clearly and we witnessed how caring staff were to other residents during our many hours spent at the home.
The overall manager was excellent and available and we thank all the staff for their kindness and care.

My mother receives excellent support from all the staff and management. The facilities in the home are first-class with lots going on every day. All in all, very happy with how my mother is looked after.

Wonderful care home. Clean and tidy. Food is great. Staff are excellent and do everything they can to keep residents happy. My dad is very well looked after. Staff are very experienced in dementia care.

12 months ago the place was a shambles-very, very poor. Now thanks to the new manager and activities coordinator the place has turned around. Morale seems good and much, much less of the 'us and them', more 'all us' now.

My father has been a resident at Plas-y-Dderwen for almost three years. We as a family were very reluctant to put him into a care home but as he had vascular dementia there really was no alternative. He settled into the home very quickly and really liked the staff and the residents. He would often tell
me how lovely the place was and how lovely the people there were. He really enjoyed the food and the activities he took part in. I know he could be difficult at times because of his dementia but the staff were always kind and respectful to him leaving him alone when he wanted to be left alone. Sadly my father passed away last week. Everything possible was done to make his passing as easy and pain-free as possible. I can not thank the staff enough.

My sister-in-law was very well-treated and comfortable. She spent two years in the home and although she had extreme mobility problems, she received the highest care. Thank you to all the staff.

My wife was a resident at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for 2 years. She had a severe stroke and was transferred from the hospital to the home on the 15th of April 2021. I cannot speak too highly of the care and support my wife receives. The staff have been wonderful in every respect. I would recommend Plas-y-Dderwen

My mother was in Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for five weeks (until her death). She was extremely frail and very difficult. They coped with her very well. She was happier when left alone and they intervened as little as possible only giving care when necessary. They dealt with her passing extremely professionally.
We were completely happy with her care.

My mother was transferred to Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home on the 20th of January, although it was sadly only for a short time I have nothing but admiration for the staff at the home who was an absolute credit to you. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The care and compassion for my mum and the family
were second to none. We as a large family all agreed the staff went above and beyond for each of us and even when our mum sadly passed they conducted everything with dignity and were very supportive of the family. A few days after Mum's passing we felt we needed to go and personally thank them which we did.
Thank you staff at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home, you are forever in our thoughts.

I just wanted to say a personal thanks for all the efforts of the team in supporting the spouse during a recent bereavement and going the extra mile in putting a plan in place to facilitate her attendance at the funeral. Whilst she didn't understand all of the time due to her dementia diagnosis she
did at times and it was fitting that she was there to sing Arglwydd Dyma Fi a hymn of her choice with tears in her eyes. The staff supporting her were professional and calm at all times. Other thanks to the home and chef for agreeing to host the afternoon tea so that she could attend and share many fond memories with people in a relaxed and supportive way in surroundings that were familiar to her.

My wife and I wanted to take the opportunity to express our thanks to all of the staff at Plas y Dderwen. My father is 82 and, sadly, now in need of professional care.
Every time we have visited, we have found the facility to be very clean and tidy - there is none of the odour often associated with
nursing homes - it smells lovely in there! The staff are friendly and seem very happy to be working there - we always get a smile and a hello.
More importantly, the residents are clearly well loved and cared for. I took the time to speak to one unsuspecting resident and asked him how things really are - without hesitation, he replied "I love it here - all the staff are wonderful"
We have lived in the USA for 18 years now and have found it difficult to see how his condition has slowly taken its toll. It is however of huge comfort to us that he is being looked after by such a compassionate and caring group of professionals. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My dad sadly passed away on Thursday, November 17th. On behalf of my family, I couldn't find a thank you card big enough to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the manager and her staff. They always showed dedication and enthusiasm in caring for Dad. The support and empathy given not only to
Dad over the last few weeks but to us all as a family.
It was always lovely to see staff smiling while carrying out their duties. It means so much to the residents and visitors who were always welcomed with a smile and greeting; it makes for a lovely, caring, homely atmosphere. After worrying about my mother going into care my fears disappeared very quickly. The staff were welcoming, dedicated and professional. They made time to discover the person behind the complex care needs and it was obvious that my mother became very fond of them. Her room and all other facilities were
well-maintained and clean. The staff took pride in their work. They catered to her changing needs with regard to feeding and personal care, taking the time to ensure her comfort at all times.
There was a feeling of well-being there and as visitors, we were also offered refreshments and counsel. When she came to the end of her life they supported us every step of the way. It was apparent that they too were preparing for a loss. I cannot speak highly enough about them and will be forever grateful for their friendship, care and support.

The family travelled for three hours to reach the home and were treated to tea/coffee, sandwiches and cake before travelling back. Cannot fault, the staff, go all out to make us comfortable. Exceptional, as usual. Thank you.

On behalf of all my family who lives abroad, I want to thank wholeheartedly each and every one of the staff and management team at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home for their kindest support. Unexpectedly, my mum became very ill last year and we were fortunate enough to find a placement for her at Plas-y-Dderwen
Care Home. Just a few months later, my dad also got ill, and he was admitted to Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home. Both of my parents were able to be together until the end in the most comfortable and dignifying conditions thanks to the arrangements that everyone at Plas-y-Dderwen Care Home offered to them as residents and to us as their family. Mum passed away recently, and dad continues without her for a little longer. None of this could have been possible without Plas-y-Dderwen help. Our gratitude is infinite.

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1994 and joined Barchester in 2015, firstly working at Plas Y Dderwen before supporting other regions for 4 years helping to improve quality and resident experience. I returned to Plas Y Dderwen in July 2022, whereby as a team we are passionate about the residents that we support and the experience they have whilst in our care. I am committed to a high standard of service delivery, ensuring that the staff also meet the requirements in terms of training and adhering to the Barchester Values of Respect, Integrity, Passion, Empowerment and Responsibility. I have recently started here at Plas y Dderwen in the role of Clinical Deputy Manager. I have a degree in adult general nursing and have been a qualified nurse since 2012. My nursing background is in a nursing home setting. I have experience in elderly care and young adults with acquired brain injuries, learning difficulties and complex needs. I am passionate about person-centred care.


It is important to me that I get to know the residents, families and the staffing team in order to build up professional relationships. It is important to me that I seek to ensure all residents are able to live their lives to the fullest, whilst also making sure their daily living care needs are supported and maintained.

Hi, I am Jacqui Price and I have been working for Plas y Dderwen since 2022. I have nearly forty years of experience in administration and accounts, primarily in the motor industry in and around Hereford and Cheltenham.


I moved to Wales in 2022 and started working for Plas y Dderwen not long after the move. This is the first time I have ever worked in the care industry. I am a nurse who came to work at Plas Y Dderwen eleven years ago. I had previously worked for the NHS for 30+ years as a psychiatric nurse. I work nights on Teifi unit and love my job. I have met the most amazing people during my time here and consider it a privilege to care for people living their journey through dementia and its challenges. The staff I work with are well trained and experienced in delivering a high standard of individualised care. The home is a friendly comfortable environment with plenty of trips and activities going on. The management are very supportive of all the staff and their various needs. Training is ongoing constantly. I particularly enjoy the autonomy and responsibility of managing the unit on nights.
