Not able to provide ratings all options as did not go into the home due to COVID restrictions. Our visit was well organised and we were able to see our mother for the first time in many months. An outside toilet option for our type of visit would have been beneficial.
Reply from Diane Kerwin, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Meadowlands Care HomeThank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We are pleased you felt the visit was well organised when you were able to visit your Mother for the first time in many months. As a care home, we must follow guidelines around visitor access within the home. If however a comfort/toilet break is required during a visit, we would certainly make arrangements to facilitate this. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The staff are extremely helpful and polite. My mother could not receive better care anywhere. The premises are very clean; the telephone is always answered, and the surroundings are cheerful both inside and out. The pandemic has been a challenge, but the staff have handled it extremely well. They go
over and about what is expected of them. They have been remarkable throughout.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and thanks to home manager and her excellent team at Meadowlands, for the care and compassion that they showed to my mother throughout her time of residency at Meadowlands. My mother came to Meadowlands in February 2020 after being a resident at their sister
home The Daffodils in Merthyr Tydfil.
Meadowlands proved to be an excellent choice and, from the outset of her stay, I was confident that I had made the right decision. The excellent rapport that the staff quickly established with my mother and the genuine care and compassion shown throughout her time there I cannot thank them enough. What will always remain with me is that all the team without exception took time and the effort to genuinely get to know and understand my mother and would always go the extra mile in ensuring her care needs were catered for. I will always be grateful for your dedication and support and will always be indebted to you.

I visit my mother every day and in general, my impression of the home is favourable. The staff are very good and helpful, however, in my mother's case time constraints, which would probably be a problem in any home as regards food and drink are a problem as my mother's case requires persistency. I am
glad that my mother has a bath regularly and is occasionally out in the lounge and that she is repositioned regularly as my mother weighs only 5 stone. It is gratifying that the home has regained its five-star food hygiene rating.

The overall view of the place is very good.
The place is kept very clean although the staff seem very stressed in trying to keep on top of things. Most of the carers are really approachable. Meals are very nice but not enough options for someone who doesn't like white fish or spaghetti, there was no
other choice which was disappointing. One nurse, in particular, is very helpful and approachable.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Meadowlands Care HomeThank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. Thank you also for your positive words regarding our staff who work hard to deliver quality kind care. HC-One provides set menus for all its homes which are created with various factors in mind including the nutritional value of the meals served, where the ingredients are sourced and what allergens are in the meals prepared. Fish is indeed on the menu three times a week as the healthy option.

I have visited a friend who is a resident at the care home. The carers are very friendly and there is a relaxed atmosphere at the home.
Although space is confined, the residents appear happy.
I have sat among the residents during my visits and it is a bit overwhelming.
I have observed some visitors
being rude to the residents because they didn't want them interrupting their visit.

Excellent staff are wonderful, my mother is well looked after, good food, excellent care and service. Home is well located and near to the town of Aberdare. Medical facilities in case of problems are well administered. Very clean home, my mother has settled in as well as can be expected. Thank you Meadowlands.

A resident fell out of bed onto a padded mattress, unfortunately, his injured his wrist resulting in him having to attend hospital for treatment. A member of staff accompanied him throughout this experience and he was returned to Meadowlands later. Every time I attend Meadowlands, my friend is clean
and very well cared for by the dedicated staff. He has to be fed this is done with patience and sympathy.

My wife was at Meadowlands for a number of years until she sadly passed away this year. The staff were outstanding during and after our difficult time. The activity worker still continues to invite me to join in events and I still visit two times weekly and ready poetry for the other residents. This
is has given me a sense of purpose.

I have been attending the home for over 6 years. My mother lived there before passing away in 2018.
The wellbeing coordinator still invites my father and myself to the home twice monthly and to any events, my father reads poetry to the residents and this give him a purpose. The staff have been fabulous.
The wellbeing coordinator has an excellent relationship with both myself and my father and makes a difference to the resident's lives.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.651)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.651) out of 10 for Meadowlands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.651 for Meadowlands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (262 Excellents x 5) + (77 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 355 Ratings = 4.651
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Meadowlands Care Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
