My mother suffers with anxiety and depression and requires nursing care, her care needs were discussed extensively with the manager of April Court prior to her arrival on 14th September. We were not informed of strict Covid restrictions until she arrived and found I would not be allowed in the building to settle Mum in, she had a panic attack and was extremely distressed. She had a very unsettled first night/day, and her care plan was not followed. Within 24 hours, on 15th September the manager served notice on my mother, giving her 28 days to find alternative accommodation. I was not informed by the manager, my 79-year-old mother was told and left very distraught. There was no major incident to warrant this, she was told she doesn't fit in and complains too much. Booked visit cancelled 30mins beforehand as they'd made a mistake, devastated mother. No communication from manager, unwilling to meet/discuss care or allow settling in period. Staff are lovely, the manager is not.

Thank you for your feedback, which is appreciated, even though in some respects hard to hear. We met with you on 4th October and talked through the various issues you have mentioned. It was agreed that your mother’s needs would be better met in a specialist unit, which is where she is now placed. We sincerely wish you both all the best going forward.

Have been very pleased with the way the care home has handled the pandemic. The care staff have been very helpful during this pandemic time. Very pleased to meet my brother in the garden. We both preferred the garden to meeting inside separated by glass. I believe he is getting proper nursing care. But I am sad his mobility is deteriorating. My brother is happy and that is the main concern.

I believe my father is well looked after in difficult times (Covid). The staff are friendly informative and we have regular updates on dad condition. It is encouraging to see a significant number of staff still in the home some 2 years after my mother was here. The staff are very accommodating and proactive. The visiting room is great although unfortunately not available as much as we would wish but understand limitations.

Reply from Lynne Cullen, Manager at April Court Care Home

Thank you for your lovely feedback. It's reassuring for all of us that relatives are feeling confident in the care we provide to their loved ones at such a difficult time (Covid).

Overall Experience

April Court continues to provide an excellent service and has taken great care of the residents during these difficult times. The current arrangements for visiting, with a dedicated indoor screened area, are very welcoming and inviting whilst feeling very safe and secure. We have been most impressed with this arrangement and with all the work carried out in the residents' garden. The staff continue to be friendly and supportive even though our interaction is necessarily much less than it was before Covid 19. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this home to other families looking for nursing care.

The staff are great. They have been wonderful in this pandemic. They have told me what's going on and what they are doing. It is a spotless home, well maintained, the rooms are homely, the food is great and I have eaten there in the past. Am now able to see mum, they have a room with perspex and we are able to go and see them.

I find April Court a fabulous home. Mum has been with them for many years now in both units. The care she has been shown is wonderful, and when Mum was really ill, they couldn't have done any more - they were amazing nursing Mum through it and bringing her through it - and because of the care she received, I still have my mum in my life. I would and have recommended April Cour to numerous people looking for a place.

Reply from Lynne Cullen, Manager at April Court Care Home

Thank you, Yvonne. Mum has been with us a very long time and is certainly a very important part of our 'furniture'. It's so lovely to hear your feedback.

My mother recently moved into April Court Care Home, as a permanent resident. From day one, the management, nursing staff, carers, cooks, admin and maintenance staff have worked as a team to help Mum feel at home, comfortable and safe. Within the first few days, her room was painted and her special paintings hung on the walls - nothing is too much trouble for the staff here. The family is always made to feel welcome and Mum is always treated with respect, dignity and care. To our delight, she has recently been seen singing and dancing along with guest singers. A very special ethos permeates this care home, created by the wonderful management and staff. Our Mum is in safe, caring hands at April Court.

I ticked "don't know" because I am not from this area and my family/friends are neither.
I was very happy with everything - staff were really caring and efficient. Every effort was made (food choice etc) for my relative resident.

Especially impressive was the efforts made to keep me updated on my aunt's condition which living away from area was a real plus. I am bound to mention one name - they have been brilliant with liasing with me as next of kin!
