I visit my auntie regularly and have always found the staff extremely helpful.
They always try to involve my auntie with activities although she is not able with her condition.
The food looks presentable. Her room is lovely. All good.

I am trying to adapt to my new surroundings as there is no place like home. I have found the transition difficult. All the staff are very caring and do their utmost to cater for my needs. I am finding difficulty in sleeping. I enjoy the food most of the time. It would be nice to have a resident who
had the same mental capacity as myself so that I can converse with.

There is now a good management team at Parklands.
The residents seem a lot happier and take part in the activities, enjoying themselves singing and joining in with everything.
It's nice to know if you have a problem, in my case my wife, don't be afraid, speak to the home manager or nurse.
My wife
has been ill 17 years on her next birthday and I'm glad to say my sons and family know my wife is well looked after at Parklands.

I find the staff really caring and understanding to everyone's needs, they are always smiling and seem to really enjoy the work they do for the elderly. The management are really easy to talk to and you don't feel that nothing is too much for them. I have seen a vast change in my Mother-in-law, she
is happy and always smiling and well looked after. Thank you to all at Parklands.

I have been here since May 2016 and I have no complaints what so ever regarding treatment staff, can’t find anything fault. I’m happier here than I would be at home because I know I couldn’t cope at home and staff help me to continue to be as independent as possible.

Our mother had been a resident at Parklands for approximately 18 months during 2015 - 2017. Throughout her stay, she was treated with respect, kindness and in a dignified manner. The staff soon became aware of her likes, dislikes etc and tailored her care to match her needs. Well done!

The building

fabric (rooms, common areas, toilets etc) are very well maintained, decorated and safe, together with the garden provided a comfortable environment for both residents and staff. Entertainment was varied and the staff worked hard. Food good. Whilst our mother's care was excellent, this was as a result of the dedication of the staff. It was very evident that more staff are required.

On behalf of my mother, we are very impressed with the standard of care and attention that mum has given. The staff are very accommodating and sympathetic to my mother's need. The cleanliness and comfort of the home is excellent. The activities provided for the residents is of a high standard enabling
the residents to socialise and become proactive. The hairdresser that attends the home on a weekly basis is excellent and the residents look forward to seeing her and having her hair done.

Having moved our mother from an excellent residential home, I don't think a nursing home would ever match up to the kindness, quality and care which we have now found here at Parklands Care Centre. The food is excellent, the whole establishment is clean without feeling sterile- a real home feeling.
Nothing is a problem for any of the friendly, professional staff looking after the residents. I can go home with the knowledge my mother is in a safe and comfortable environment.

My husband initially stayed at Parklands Care Centre for occasional weeks while I had some respite and was so pleased with the care he received that when the time came for him to be cared for permanently in a care home, there were no other care homes that I would have wanted him to go to. Because I
visit practically every day I can see how very caring and kind all the staff are. I am very pleased that every weekday afternoon there are activities in which the residents that are able can participate in order to keep them motivated. It's a joy to see the smiles on their faces when they join in the keep fit, quizzes, concerts and bingo etc and I am made welcome and able to join in as well. The home and the rooms are always clean and tidy. The food is absolutely fabulous even though my husband is on pureed food. It's always very tasty I can go home and have peace of mind that he is being looked after so well.

A different system should be put in place to prevent items of clothing going missing even though they are properly labelled, individual bags should be issued. The cleaning of individuals wheelchairs should be prioritised as the presence of old food etc could become a health and safety issue. Similarly,
lounge chairs should be regularly cleaned. Bathing and showering are not taking place on a regular basis and the excuse always seems to be that the carers are always too busy. This is not acceptable.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.755)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.755) out of 10 for Parklands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.755 for Parklands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (217 Excellents x 5) + (47 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 274 Ratings = 4.755
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parklands Care Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
