Mum has settled in well to the care home although difficult at the start with Covid being able to see her into her room. The staff have been helpful and cheery. Mum is a lot less anxious now although she has sad days too. Overall happy with the home.

Was very concerned initially about having to place mum in a care home, but as soon as I entered Barleystone my worries were put at ease. The staff are excellent, caring and understanding with residents and visitors. Have nothing but praise for everyone and everything they do here. It's great to know that mums every need is being attended to.

It has been two years since I last saw my mother who in the meantime has reached her 100th and 101st years. She was instantly recognisable and because of the excellent care and attention she gets at Barleystone she looks 10 years younger than her actual years. Carers there know her and seem to be able to empathise with her needs. I live 600 miles from my mother and during the last two years it has been impossible to risk a visit. The staff at Barleystone are first-class always willing to communicate with me and keep me abreast of Mum's condition. Thanks to them her condition is remarkable.

My partner is quite settled in Barleystone now and seems in general, quite content. He is well looked after, treated with respect as far as I am aware, and enjoys a bit of laughter on occasions. He has few complaints about the food and his room is comfortable. He has his own chair which will be useful in assisting him to stand up but unfortunately still waiting for it to be tested before it can be fully utilised.

Reply from Diane Kerwin, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Barleystone Court Care Home

Thank you for your lovely comments. We have a maintenance operative that will be ensuring that the safety of the chair meets our fire regulations in order that your partner enjoys the full use of his chair.

My Grandad was cared for in Barleystone for just over a year until his passing and we couldn’t have asked for better care, the staff really care about the residents, the place was always clean and had a good atmosphere.

My aunt has only been in the home since January. I feel I have not had the chance to fully meet staff and see all facilities due to the current situation, lockdown etc. However, my first impression is that any staff I have met are friendly, caring and helpful. The home is bright and clean, and my aunt has settled in well.

Limited review due to Covid restrictions. Allowed to visit two times per week. Staff have been very friendly and helpful during these visits. Very helpful in obtaining visiting slots, which at times included the weekends.

I visit once a week as a friend to one of the residents, I have been going to see him for perhaps the last 2-3 months. On entering the home, there is a freshness to the air, my friend loves the food, his room looks onto lovely gardens. I find the staff very pleasant, his bed is suitable and the floor is covered with soft covering in case of a fall from bed.

I moved my mother-in-law into Barleystone in February, which was complicated by her being admitted from hospital and also during lockdown measures. The staff were extremely helpful, particularly the administrator who has gone above and beyond to keep me fully updated on the admission process and the progress of my mother-in-law. My husband has recently visited her there and been very impressed with the care as well as the facilities. A warm and welcoming place.

Mum has always been well looked after since she became a resident at Barleystone and I've never had any problems. During the Covid situation, I have been kept informed and am happy that they have put Mum's safety first. I have had regular weekly Skype calls and she always looks clean and tidy and more importantly happy.

We have been impressed with how Barleystone has dealt with the Covid situation and the care Dad has received. We have managed to keep in touch throughout by having regular video calls. Dad just had his 80th birthday and the staff arranged for me to have a video call with him at the same time as his visit from Mum so the whole family could celebrate together.

A huge well done to all the staff at Barleystone for keeping the home coronavirus free and taking care of our relatives. They all went the extra mile. I feel more equipment is needed for outside visits. The weather has been awful. For the resident's benefit, a gazebo with sides would be beneficial to protect them from the cold winds and rain.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Barleystone Court Care Home

The issue of safe and protected outdoor visiting space is a challenge for every Care Home and we need to carefully follow all Public Health guidance which states that Gazebos should not have sides in order to allow air to circulate freely and thereby support the prevention of virus transmission....

Mum has been a resident in this home for 3 1/2 years. We as a family have been completely satisfied with her care and the support the home has provided, especially during the virus and lockdown. We have been kept up to date with her health and care, telephone, facetime and outside meeting. Any concerns have been dealt with quickly and thoroughly in a very professional manner. We rate this home A+++.

As a family, we have always been happy with the care our mother has received. She is always clean and wearing clean clothes when we see her. The staff always seem to be quick to notice if there is something wrong with her and let us know by phone ASAP. It also helps that most of the staff have been there since my mum arrived, so they know her well.

I have to thank the staff for the care and attention given to my aunt, especially during this difficult period of lockdown. The staff are very helpful when I telephone for an update regarding my aunt’s health. I have to say that I find the video calls with my aunt particularly comforting and reassuring and am very grateful to the staff for arranging these.

Following a stroke and hip replacement, my mum was in a wheelchair. I never thought my mum would walk again but the patience, care and support of the team, have my mum up and about again. I cannot thank them enough. During the coronavirus, I have received update calls and video calls. Just to see and hear mum during worrying times has been reassuring. The staff are always a delight at this care home. I have every confidence they are doing everything within their power at this unprecedented time. Thank you.
