I have found the nurses and all staff very helpful and kind. My husband seems settled and happy. The meals provided are very good and nutritious and he seems to enjoy his food. There are different forms of entertainment for the residents and the entertainment coordinator provides lots of activities and visitors. The home is clean and bright. The job is a nice place to go to have a cup of tea. It also has a jukebox for music.

The management has been very supportive in guiding us through the process of admission following the sudden death of my uncle's wife and subsequent complications with council policy. The staff are friendly and helpful and keep us informed of any issues regarding our uncle. He has settled in well and seems content. He does sleep often and is sometimes unwilling to participate in activities, but as he has Dementia and been through the trauma of the past few months, this is not unexpected. The facilities are in place for him if and when he chooses to join in. The rooms are lovely, and indeed my uncle comments often on how nice the suites are! The staff kindly set up tables in the cafe to allow us to bring Christmas dinner in to enjoy a family get together, which was lovely.

A new "Activities Co-ordinator" has taken over at Barleystone and she is doing a great job. The difference this has made to my mother, who has been a resident at Barleystone for 5 years, is quite remarkable. The days of being seated in front of a television with nothing going on have hopefully ended. All the residents seemed to do was sleep because there was little else to stimulate them. The events that this new Co-ordinator has been organising have improved the quality of life for not only my own mother but other residents as well. Long may she continue in her new position.

My father went to Barleystone January 19, having previously been fairly independent in a residential retirement complex for the last 14 yrs. Now aged 94 yrs, he needed a more supported/nursing environment but still giving him the feeling of independence, as he is still mentally alert. Barleystone and its staff have given him this, without making him feel controlled. Can't praise staff highly enough, who go out of their way to ensure he is happy in every area.

When visiting my friend I find the staff to be very efficient. When my friend needs something the staff are helpful and caring. The deputy manager and the manager are always smiling and I receive a lovely welcome when I visit. I often get a cup of tea.

Always looks well when I visit and her room is always gleaming.

Although she is hard of hearing, everyone makes the effort to speak to her. She is still mobile, using her Zimmer, and it's always nice to see her being encouraged.

The staff are very helpful and appear happy at work. The residents all appear to be happy and content and well looked after. The home is clean and seldom smells when you walk in, unlike other homes where urine smells strong. Barleystone is a good home and my Mum likes living there, she said the staff will do anything for them (residents), they only have to ask.

When my mother was advised to look for care home we were quite concerned about what kind of care she would get, but a year on since she moved into the care home we have no worries as she is well looked after. I am kept well informed on a weekly basis as to how my mother is doing.

My mother was in care at this home (which we did not choose) for 1 year. She got out of the home one day for over 2 hours. The staff did not miss her! It was only when myself and the police phoned them. This was reported to the care commission. Manager jumped ship! Had no permanent manager for around 10 months. Staff change a lot and were moved up and down so never really had a permanent key worker.

Care and caring are difficult qualities to find in today's world. This care home has an abundance of both. My wife and I have been residents in the care home for 12 months and never have we experienced anything but quality and care from experienced staff.
Nothing is too difficult at any time, day or night.
This applies to all staff, carers, cleaners, laundry staff and of course, nursing staff.

Mangement is always approachable and standards are always high.

I have been a resident in this home, in the company of my wife, for eight months. During this time we have seen changes, all to the detriment of the system. One of the changes was the withdrawal of the hairdresser. As most of the residents are female it is notable how this withdrawal has affected their manner as well as their appearance.
We have yet to make the most important choice in our lives - whether to commit for the rest of our lives or return to our home.
Currently, we have been influenced to remain here due entirely to the commitment of the staff - at all ages. Their honesty in their service to all residents - and like all aged personnel, this can be trying. We can only judge our opinion by our experience.

I would not hesitate to recommend this care home to all members who are looking for a safe retirement home.
