The team create their own musicals, like The Sound of Music and Sister Act, with full make up and fantastic costumes, the residents love singing along. The team often perform in the home's car park for the local community to enjoy.
There are regular swimming sessions at the local hydrotherapy pool, as well as tai chi classes.
The entire team embrace activities. One of the carers is a talented artist so runs art sessions with the residents. She even organised an exhibition for their families, transforming the home’s bar into a gallery.
Residents who love cooking spend time with the home’s chef, who helps them to recreate their favourite recipes, which are added to Allanbank’s Recipe Book.
The local football club run a reminiscence group, where the residents meet fellow fans and former players.
The home has a fantastic relationship with the Theatre Royal – which donates front row tickets for residents to enjoy performances.
The team are passionate about keeping their residents connected to their local community, so organise regular pub lunches, visits to garden centres, church coffee mornings, animal farms and community high teas and dances.
The residents can also enjoy regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser in the home’s hair and nail salon.
Allanbank is made up of smaller individual communities, with cosy lounge and dining areas, which gives it a warm, family feel. There are enclosed courtyard gardens, with wheelchair-friendly pathways and raised planters, where the residents enjoy growing their own produce.
And the home-cooked food is a real highlight, with home baking every day for afternoon tea.

Dad was only at Allanbank for about 8 weeks but the care he received was excellent. Staff were great with Dad and he settled well. Dad enjoyed the activities that were on offer and even tried activities that he wouldn't have previously tried.

My mum was a resident at Allanbank for just over a year. I cannot fault the care she was given in her time there. The staff were truly amazing, caring and compassionate. Nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately mum became unwell at the end of May. Everyone at Allanbank made her last few days a little easier to deal with. My family were able to come and go as we wanted to and although we were left alone to be with mum in her final days, there was always someone on hand. After mum passed away, there was no pressure to leave her and we never felt rushed or a bother to anyone. Overall I would highly recommend Allanbank.

It was a big decision to move my husbands dad into a care home, but he just wasn't safe at home. Mum suffered from dementia and other health issues. She moved into Allanbank last November after a hospital stay as it was no longer safe for her to go back home. Thanks to the lovely caring staff in Glensone Ward they treated her with respect and kindness and made her days enjoyable and she settled in after a couple of weeks. Unfortunately Mum took a turn for the worse recently and the staff went above and beyond to care for Mum in her final weeks/days of life every person pulled together as a team to make sure Mum was well looked after comfortable and pain-free right up until she passed away. The staff are very special people and will never be able to thank them enough.

Sandra is the Home Manager at Allanbank Care Home, bringing 23 years of experience in health and social care. She qualified as a mental health nurse in 2003 and began her career working with older adults, a passion that has remained at the heart of her work ever since. After 12 years in this area, Sandra progressed into management, taking on roles that included troubleshooting complex care services for younger adults and later moving into a Regional Manager position overseeing complex care provision. In 2021, she returned to working with older adults, where her passion truly lies.
Sandra has been with Sanctuary Care for nearly five years and values the organisation’s commitment to supporting and valuing its managers. She takes pride in creating an environment where residents feel truly at home, describing Allanbank as a place that feels like a “home from home.”
